I couldn’t stop looking at the door, waiting for the one person who was able to make my heart falter.

I placed my hand on my stomach. 

He knows now. Rayan announced it to him, and he assured me that everything was okay. But I couldn’t help but be sad over what he had gone through over seeing me in bed for three days.

Rayan said Theo was in the same clothes for the first two days and he didn’t eat or sleep. He only kept looking at me, holding my hands. And that saddens me. 

He must have felt terrified seeing me that way. I would never wish for anyone to feel that way. Especially not Theo. Watching your loved one deep asleep, not knowing if they will wake up. 

“Are you going to keep looking at the door? You know, staring at it won’t make him appear.” Halley said by my side. She handed me the apple she had taken her time peeling. 

“If only it were that way,” I murmured. My throat wasn’t hurting anymore. I didn’t know what Rayan did but after the checkup, he had given me a bland drug and I was able to move and speak. 

I sighed. When was Theo going to come? 

Rayan said he had informed him earlier. I bit into the apple. 

I really needed to see Theo. It suddenly felt like it was taking forever. 

“How do you think he took my pregnancy? Theo didn’t really want kids.” I said as I bit the apple again. 

“You have asked this for the hundredth time, Selena. If there is one thing I know about this mafia boss, it is that he genuinely loves you so as his baby. You have to see how he has been living. It was just like the movies when the female lead is on her deathbed and then the male lead is miserable by her side. It was nice to watch.” She nodded like it was something enjoyable. 

Well for her, it surely was. 

“Either way, I must say he loves you.” 

My eyes widened at her words. “Don’t say that, he doesn’t.” And that earned me a glare from Halley. 

“You shouldn’t say something like that. It’s going to break the big mafia’s heart you know.” 

I closed my eyes at her cringed words, she would never change. 

My eyes shifted to the door again and I sighed, just when was he going to get here? It was taking forever. 

“Ivan will be getting here later after work. You have to see how panicked he was when he came here the first time and you were just lying there.” 

I smiled. “Ivan had always had a soft heart, he must ha—“ 

The door opened and I felt everything go still. Silence suddenly enveloped the room, the sounds of trees suddenly became so loud as I stared at Theo. 

“Oh, Mr Charming is here.” I could hear Halley say from my side. 

Charming? 

Theo looked far from it as he stared at me. His always laid-back hair was all over his face, for some reason, it suddenly looked longer, but that wasn’t all, his eyes held dark circles, and his skin looked paler than usual, like he was starving. 

Theo just stood there, one hand still half-raised as if he couldn’t decide whether to come closer or stay rooted to the spot. 

“Theo,” I said but it only came out as a whisper as my voice broke. 

“Fuck Selena, I’m not dreaming.” I heard him say and then he crossed the room in long strides, in a hurry, reaching for me, pulling me into his body. 

Theodore dropped to my shoulders.  

“Oh Christ, Selena.”   I felt his fingers shake against my body, his hands warm. 

“Fuck it really work. You are awake, Selena.” He whispered, his voice cracking on the second word.

I didn’t know what to do. Seeing Theo trembling as he hugged me this deep, this vulnerable. I closed my eyes, pulling myself into his embrace. 

“Oh God, Selena, I thought something was going to happen to you. You weren’t waking up.” Theo’s voice broke against my body. 

“Three days Selena. Rayan didn’t know what was wrong. I thought…I thought I was losing you.” He murmured against my neck, and his arms pulled me closer tightly. It was too tight but I didn't have the heart to move from him. I didn’t want to. Not when he was this way. 

“It’s okay.” I rubbed his back, my eyes still closed against his shoulder. “It’s okay Theo, I’m here now. It’s fine. I’m not leaving anymore.”

“I’m sorry for making you feel this way. I’m sorry for hurting you.” I murmured. Theo suddenly pulled away and my breath caught looking at his eyes. Theo had tears in his eyes. 

How could I? 

How could I move away from this devastating look he gave me? How will I be able to forget how heartbroken Theo looked right now? It was going to hurt me forever. 

He held both of my hands and kissed them. Once. 

Twice. 

And then thrice.

He stared at me. 

“No, you did nothing. It was from me. I caused it. If I had protected you enough, then this won’t have happened. I didn't take harm away from you even after knowing it existed close to you. Blame me.” 

I smiled and shook my head. “We shouldn’t have to blame each other now.” 

A tear dropped to his cheek, and my heart broke. I wiped his cheek. “It’s okay. I’m sorry for scaring you. I’m good now.” I said in a whisper to him. 

Theo pulled me into another hug. Again hugging me tightly like I was going to leave.

I rubbed his back gently as he held my waist. His nose to my neck. That made me smile.

Looking at the room now, there was no one in it. I wondered when Halley left. 

“Your hair has always been well kept. Why didn’t you take care of it this time? When last did you wash it?” I asked, running my hands through his hair. It was greasy, and that was unlike Theodore. 

He had always been neat and well-laid back. 

“It didn’t matter. Nothing mattered more than seeing you lying on the bed that way. It scared me. The thought kept scaring me. I don’t want to ever lose you, Selena. Even though the world is in jeopardy, I never want to. Everyone can perish, but you must not, Selena.”

I nodded on his shoulders. 

I opened my eyes as the door opened. Rayan walked in. “It’s blissful seeing you both together again.” He joked and I shook my head. 

“I mean it’s a pleasant thing, but I have to remind boss of something real quick.” 

“Speak Rayan.” Theo groaned from my neck, his hands still wrapped around me and I took that as a clue that he wasn’t going to let go. 

“Saying it with Selena here is going to spare my life-hood so I will say it here.” Rayan looked at me and joined his hands silently in a plea. 

Now it was interesting.
