CHAPTER 28 I believe in Stephanie. She didn't.

Liz who had long been ignored would not give up that easily. While troubling Jack for chances to meet him, she faked a piece of evidence which indicated Stephanie to be the murderer of Steve. That was her last hope.

Liz knew Jack was obsessed with Steve's death, but she could never guess out how much impact Stephanie's death had on him.

If their contact these days brought her something, then it must be her knowledge of Jack's future moves. She finally decided to confront him in a business banquet.

This banquet was one of the most important activities in the capitol city, which meant that Jack would definitely be there. In fact, Jack wanted to take Stephanie with him but was rejected. Stephanie by then cared about nothing but her baby.

During the banquet, however, Jack was a bit slack. Though the banquet was a big event, it wasn't anything important to him. In contrast, it occupied his time to stay with Stephanie and the baby, so he decided to leave once there's a chance. Several businessmen talked to him, but were confused with his strange attitude.

Finally, the time's up. Jack breathed a sigh of relief and left the lobby. People there were all tycoons and authorities, but for Jack, they were just nobody.

When he reached the door, someone leaped out from aside and blocked his way. That person's back was against the light, so it took Jack several seconds to tell who he was. "Liz Jose?"

Liz was in a fire-red evening dress. She was looking at Jack with a miserable expression. "Jack, It's just a few days since we last met. It's so ruthless of you to change the title."

"Jack, please don't treat me in this way. I didn't mean to do that to the baby!" Liz seemed gloomier. These days she spent most of her time drinking, which made her look much more emaciated. She stepped forward and trying to grip his arm, but was rejected. "Are you really in love with Stephanie?"

She paused when she spoke Stephanie's name. Her hatred towards her had nearly grown incontrollable. She feared that it would make Jack leave sooner, so she tried hard to conceal her grudge.

For a second, Jack didn't know what to say. His feeling towards Stephanie was definite. The problem was how to tell that to Liz. He knew well that Liz loved him too.

Before Jack answered, Liz climbed up his chest and kissed him.

Jack at once pushed her away, his eyes full of detest. Obviously, his only patience left had worn out. "Calm down, Liz. I love Stephanie."

The two fell silent. Liz bowed her head to conceal her twisted look, while Jack felt relieved by making it clear. He loved Stephanie. That's his answer. Right then he wanted to go back even worse. He wanted to stay with Stephanie and the baby.

It took Liz much effort to calm down. Her face was back to the normal graceful state. "But Jack, what if there is evidence which can prove Stephanie guilty of murdering Steve?"

Her words were a great shock for Jack, though just for a moment. Jack always took Stephanie as the one who killed Steve, but he"d got no evidence.

"I believe in Stephanie. She didn't…"

"No, Jack. She lied." Liz interrupted him anxiously. Her words almost broke out from her months. Meanwhile, she began to cry, but she didn't know for what reason. She took out a file out of her handbag and passed it to Jack. "This is what I found out. Believe it or not is up to you."

She said all these in a breath. After that, she turned around to leave, but Jack got hold of her wrist and stopped her, which made Liz glared back to him. In her eyes, there was fear as well as hope.

Jack took a short look at the file in his hands, after which he stared at Liz coldly. "Don't let me see you from now on."

Liz looked at Jack, doubting if he was serious. Her heart was bleeding, but she left after Jack let go of her hand.

Jack, do you really love her this bad? After all, you have chosen to be with her whether if she killed Steve or not? Liz wanted to tell him her doubts, but she found herself already exhausted. She started tittering, showing a sort of abnormal mental state. Along with the red dress she was wearing, she looked like a demon from hell.

"Stephanie, I will make you suffer. I will!"

In fact, Jack wasn't as resolute as he appeared to be. He was struggling in his heart too. For the next several days, Stephanie sensed that there was something wrong with him, but what did that have to do with her? She went out to buy some personal items for the baby. There was always something she wanted to be done on her own.

It was not even a hundred meter off from the mansion when she spotted a car driving directly towards her. She had no time to dodge, but right before she was hit, a man jumped out from somewhere and pushed her away.

She turned around blankly and saw Jack lying in a pool of blood.

"No-"
