Chapter 229: What Is The News?
Chapter 229: What Is The News?
Vladic Regime's POV:
I was standing there, staring out the window of my office as I was waiting for the final word that I had longed to hear for so many years now, long enough I lost count. When news traveled in these parts, it would take time to do so, especially after the death of a higher member from one of the different clans, werewolf packs, or otherwise. However, only in particular is what I was most fascinated to hear about, of course.
How ever long that wait was, I was still waiting for this pending news to reach my ears when, all of a sudden, I wanted nothing more than to fantasize about the death of the enemy. One whom I had a personal hand in removing from the face of this era. Just then, there was a knock on the door, leading to my office. I was surprised that I heard it this time. Usually, when I was lost in thought, I wouldn't even notice such a thing.
I turned my head to the side to see if they were brave enough to open up the door and attempt to stick their head inside the crevice. To my surprise, no one bothered to open up the door. Instead, whoever it was decided to wait till it was answered. I was shocked at first. Could this be Emeric? If I didn't respond to him after he knocked the first time, he would take it upon himself to blatantly open the door up for himself, and then try to gain my attention at that point.
Honestly, the longer they stayed outside the door with it closed, the more it made me wonder exactly who was standing on the other side, as they only took the opportunity to knock on it once. At that moment, I turned toward the door, completely facing it as I levitated, floating across the floor, all the way to this side of the door. With a gentle wave of my hand, my door opened up, fully exposing the person on the other side.
It revealed exactly who I didn't expect to see, standing there looking at me in shock, even though he had been previously facing the door. Upon seeing such an unexpected face, I lowered myself down to the floor, just as their jaw dropped slightly upon seeing the door open in a swift manner, and I was hovering above the surface of the floor. It's not like they haven't seen me do this before. They were just not expecting me to do it when they knocked.
“Sire?” Balmerian spoke, obviously quite stunned that I had come to answer the door in such a manner, floating the entire way. “Pardon my intrusion, I don't mean to intrude on your solitude."
“I’m sure you have news,” I announced suddenly, as I certainly wanted to hear exactly what it was that he came to say. Why else would he be knocking on the door to my office at such an hour? It was quite late after all. What else could it be? “What news do you bring?”
“I was wanting to let you know that I have yet to hear anything, as word has yet to reach my ears as to the sudden and unexpected death of your most despised enemy,” Balmerian spoke, but I could tell he was a bit reluctant to give me that bit of news.
“Very well,” I told him as I raised my chin slightly before I turned around to walk further into my office and away from the doorway.
“Sire, if I may, do you think they would keep news such as this sensitive nature to themselves? Sure, we expect to hear such news over time, but perhaps, some news takes a while longer before they let such wind fly as to the nature of the sensitivity of keeping something like that a secret?” Balmerian asked me, prompting me to stop walking away and turn back around to face him once more.
“That is an interesting proposition, you subject me to,” I told him as I placed my hands behind my back, one hand grabbing the opposite wrist and turning around to pace slightly before turning back to face him once more. “I guess there is only one thing left to do in that case.”
“What do you propose, Sire?” Balmerian asked, as he was still standing outside my doorway.
When I turned around to look at him, I noticed that he had yet to enter my office. I was intrigued. It wasn't very often that Balmerian came to my office to give news such as this, or the lack of news, like in this particular case, this very evening. Usually, it was Emeric who gave me such messages when the occasion called for it. However, Emeric apparently didn't pay all that much attention to the fact that this was my office. Therefore, he would open the door and, by that, intrude on my thoughts, letting himself inside, no matter what I was doing.
Balmerian, on the other hand, had more respect and even stood there waiting to be invited in before he crossed the threshold. I turned around to face him directly now and even waved my hand at him, insinuating to him that he was allowed to enter at that time. I waited there, standing patiently for him to take his first step and then cautiously took another, all till he was clear of the swing of my office door.
Only when he was far enough away from the door did I make my next move. He flinched when I waved my hand about, causing the door to close back when he turned back to face me. He even gripped the strap of the bag that he had hanging over his shoulder. Once the door was closed back, I turned my back to him once more as I continued to ponder my thoughts. I walked about when I suddenly turned to face him, and he was startled by my sudden movement.
"Balmerian, I want you to do me this," I told him when I levitated a bit closer to him, causing him to grip his shoulder strap once more as it hung across the front of him. When I reached him, I lifted my hand, grasping the end of my pointy. "I want you to go and inform Emeric about putting together an assemblage. Have them ready here for a prompt flight."
"Sire, just to be clear, I will go and inform Emeric to put together an assemblage."
