Chapter 37 37

Chapter 37 37

Locke was so worried after he heard his boss's command that the phone felt like it burned in his hand as he scrolled through it before tapping the line again.

He could not sit still.

"Get every guard," he told the men on the other end in that flat, but very sharp and urgent tone. "Ask them who took Anna. Who gave the other. Ask the guards. I want a name immediately. "

He hung up and paced the driveway.

The guards under him were good men. They followed orders and didn't like questions being unanswered.

He expected answers and he wanted them as soon as possible. He turned to face the asphalt after that, worried sick.

Minutes later, his phone rang and when he picked it up, the guard’s voice slid through. He sounded tired.

"They won't say anything, sir. The mansion guards won't talk. I don't know what's going on but whoever ordered she should be taken out of this house also asked them to shut up."

Locke went cold immediately, and he stiffened in his seat at the thought of forcing those bastards to say something. He cursed under his jaw. "They won't talk? Did you force them?"

"That won't be the best line of action sir. They are armed and I am pretty convinced they will not hesitate to use it if we try to make this right. The atmosphere is already tense."

The man answered. Locke slammed his palm against his thigh.

And then he moved fast. He barked orders into the phone, asking the men to make sure they didn't leave the mansion until he got there. The man on the other end affirmed his command with an okay before he hung up.

He turned the chauffeur and asked him to hurry. "But sir, we are already driving at the-"

"Drive faster. I don't care. And be quick about it."

The man nodded before hitting the accelerator. Locke couldn't stop squirming in his seat because of the anger. He kept his eyes on the road as his mind continued to work in cold pieces.

Who would take the woman? And why take her just at the time Domenico wanted her?

Something about the way Domenico sounded over the phone told him he wanted the woman, he needed to see her.

He tried to think but nobody came to his mind. He reached the mansion five minutes later.

Guards lined the drive.

The Stone crest on the gate was still sitting there in its glory, heavy and black.

Armed men in black suits watched him as he got out of the car and walked towards them. He made his way up the stairs with his men now behind him.

He didn’t waste time on words. He pushed through the front doors and that's when he saw the men he'd sent before standing there, facing off with the guards of the mansion, jaw clenched in anger.

Locke stepped forward and didn't stop until he was standing in front of the group.

"Who took Anna?" He demanded.

His voice was low but the danger that it carried was enough to send the message that he wasn't here to play, yet the men wouldn't say anything.

He looked the guards in the face and that's when a slow smile slid through. And then both hands went down to his belt where his gun was carefully resting.

The men knew what kind of man he was, especially when the occasion demanded an answer. His eyes flicked to the oldest of the men and then he said. "If I'm going to have to repeat myself one more time, none of you will make it out of here, alive. I promise you that."

The guards swallowed and then his eyes flicked to the other men. "We didn't see who gave the order, Mr. Locke," he said carefully. "We only followed orders to bring her out. We were told that it was an order from higher authority."

Locke felt hot.

His hand moved to his gun before he really thought. He pulled it out and held it in the light, very ready to fulfil the promise he'd just made to them a few seconds ago.

"Listen." He said slowly. "I don't want drama. Tell me who told you to take her. If you lie, I don't need to tell you that we are going to paint this mansion red with your blood. And if I find out that you're stalling...even worse."

A hush followed. The guards looked at each other. It didn't take long before that look of fear started to wear on their faces. The oldest guard among them was the first to speak.

"It was Blaze." He said at last. "The men who came here were sent by him."

Locke’s heart dropped instantly. And almost immediately, the gears began to work inside his head as he tried to understand why Blaze would do such a thing. He found the answer to his question soon enough. And it was terrifying.

He had expected a rival at first, or maybe there had been some sort of breach even though that was very unlikely. He hadn't expected one of their own to order this. Locke’s head spun with noise. He kept his gun up, feeling the air squeeze out of him every second he thought of the name again.

"Blaze?" He asked, still finding it hard to believe.

"Yes." The man said. "Please put the gun down."

"And where did they take her?"

"We have no idea."

Locke cocked the gun, sending a wave of panic running through the men.

"I swear to you." One of the guards yelled, hands out. "I swear on everything I hold dear. They did not tell us where they were taking her. We asked but they refused to answer, instead they asked us not to question supreme orders."

Locke closed his eyes and realised just how fucked up the situation was. He dialed Domenico with one hand, with the gun raised at the men.

Before Domenico picked the call, he warned the men.

"I hope you understand your lives depend on this. If you're lying to me, I'll come back here and make sure every single one of you dies. And if I don't, my boss will make sure of that."

That's when the call went through.

He put the phone to his ears. "Boss, we have a big problem."
