The Traitor

Keira's Pov

My bedroom widow directly overlooks the tree that we had a fake letter left slightly hidden inside one of it's massive bark fissures. It's purple leaves indeed shimmers brightly at sunset. It's a beautiful sight that I never noticed before.

Angel Garren approaches and stands by my side. Fenris and Conrad lay on my bed, reading texts about spells, curses and magic. I had to leave my father and friends to rest since they had not slept well for days. Silverpaw's beta, Luther, will be returning home tomorrow to his chosen mate even though the bond between him and Arina was restored and she did not die. My mates promised that they would kill her next time and he wouldn't have to worry about the unwanted mate-bond.

Allen will be staying for a while, enjoying the luxuries of the Palace and helping with whatever task we choose to give him.

"Our brother is okay. Let us heal you," Garren urges, assessing my injured hand.

"It's not healing when the wound will appear on one of your hands," I decline.

"It's not something we don't deserve. Sharing your pain is the least we can do to rectify our mistakes," he insists.

"I would accept if it was really your fault. Arina had my blood because I trusted her father with it. You're not the ones that started the problem," I tell.

"We are the ones that chose your former stupid mistress over you. And I would still insist on taking your wounds regardless of our past actions. The wound will heal faster on us."

"Yes, why nurse it for weeks when it will heal within an hour on one of our hands?" Fenris adds in support of his brother.

They have a point. I just hope that it will not appear on Conrad's hand as he suffered just as much as I did.

He stands from the bed and walks to us. "I am sure our traitor won't be picking that letter now. They will wait for the cover of darkness. There is no need to keep staring at the tree," he says before scooping me in his arms and carrying me to the bed.

They all hold my hand and I feel wound heal, the pain disappearing. Then the injury reappears on Angel Fenris's left hand.

"Umm . . . that looks ugly," he reacts, frowning at the wound.

If course he hates looking ugly. But like he himself said, the wound will heal within an hour on him.

Conrad and Garren laugh. "It definitely won't match well with your best coat. You can hide here until it heals," Garren says.

"I am actually proud of keeping the mark of love," Fenris says.

I doubt he really means that. Like his brother said, physical flaws wouldn't go well with his glamour.

"Let me help cover it," I offer, grabbing a bunch of clean, thin rugs and the cup of herbs that Allen made for me.

I pour the liquid on the wound and the angel hisses in pain. I ignore the expression of discomfort on his beautiful face and cover the wound with the thun

Allen suddenly bursts into the room, disregarding all norms of etiquette.

"I just saw your doctor creeping towards to backyard, your majesties. I couldn't follow him so I came here," he informs, breathing heavily.

Everyone rushes to the window. We slowly draw the curtains further to see the very man that treated my wound yesterday skulking towards the big tree. It's a little too dark for my eyes to see clearly but I recognize his unhealthy figure. How can it be him?

He is only of the few servants that does possess a key to every room of the palace just like us. But he seemed like a good, honest man. Why would he be seeking a message from Arina?

"It's always those that you never suspect that stab you in the back," Conrad comments as the doctor gets to the tree and hastily searches for the message.

He forgot to wear something dark that would blend with the darkness. The white fur coat makes him look like a walking lamp.

"I will go get him," Allen says, already turning to rush to rush out.

Garren pulls him back by the arm. "We had some guards waiting to arrest him," he informs.

Allen sighs and returns to the window just as the doctorf inally finds the fake letter and unfolds it. I see him stumble in shock as he reads the words that angel Fenris had written.

"Only a traitor can be this foolish. Your punishment is death!"

The man drops the letter and starts to run. But soldiers emerge from the doors of the palace and chase him down. He screams as they drag him inside.

"Let's go hear what he knows," Conrad says and we make our way out.

His desperate screams meet our hears even before we enter the drawing room.

"The soldiers had orders to torture him so we wouldn't have to," Fenris informs while opening the door for me.

I cannot say he didn't deserve it. He was the traitor all along and pretended to care about my unjurues so much. I wonder what he was getting from Arina and her father to turn on his kings and masters.

The man's face is covered with blood when we walk in, the soldiers still punch and kick him.

"Please stop! I . . . will tell the truth!" he screams while curling up into a ball.

The soldiers step aside as we approach and the terrified man states up at us.

"So, you're the fool that have been working with the witch. Why? We didn't pay you enough?" Conrad asks.
