Chapter 68 Lucian's pov

Chapter 68 Lucian's pov
The Ravenclaw pack was not only welcoming but they seemed to have everything that I wanted. They were strong and reliable.
Not to mention the fact that they have strong men who are fearsome and skilled in battles.
But I love to train alone ever since I got better. My wounds were nicely healed and I don't have to be concerned about anyone finding out who I really was.
All thanks to Sienna who lied to the Alpha I was her brother. I could see the way he looked at her each time we were summoned.
I felt angry day by day but then, I knew she was mine. Sienna loved me and she was making it too obvious to the Alpha.
But I don't mind. We could leave the pack if he does not want us around anymore. That was my thought until his sister began to show a little interest in me.
I had tried to avoid her each time but she wouldn't let me be.
I was at the field training. I had a lot on my mind. I wonder what was going to happen to Henry once Stephan knew he aided and abetted in our escape.
I prayed silently that he was safe. He was the only friend I have got. The only person who knew my secret and yet stayed with me.
Each strike into the air was heavy. I tried to channel all my anger into my kicks and strikes. But then, I felt a heavy hand on my shoulder.
My reflexes were fast. I grabbed the hand and slowly slid it up my shoulder knocking my opponent down very fast.
“Ouch!” She yelled with a loud thud on the floor.
“ Oh my god! What are you doing sneaking up on me like that, Mara!” I said with my eyes nearly popping out of their sockets.
I grabbed her hands and helped her up. Mara coughed slightly while I brought her to a seat.
“ I didn't mean to scare you.” She said, looking at my face.
“ You shouldn't sneak up on a warrior like that. I could have hurt you or done worse.” I said running my hands through my hair slowly.
“ I am sorry.” Mara said again.
“ No. You don't have to be. I should apologise.”
I got on my feet and bowed immediately. When I raised my head up, I could see her smiling.
“ Is something funny?” I asked with my eyebrows arched.
“ You won't return my love advances but you are willing to apologise for smacking me to the ground. Maybe we should do this more often if that means getting your attention.” Mara said jokingly.
I let out a short breath and shook my head. “That is not funny, Mara,” I said, though my voice came out calmer than I expected. “You could have gotten seriously hurt.”
She shrugged and dusted off her clothes like nothing had happened. “But I didn’t,” she replied softly. “And I got you to talk to me. That counts as a win.”
I looked away, my jaw tightening. This was exactly what I was trying to avoid. Ever since we arrived, she had been finding little excuses to be around me. I knew she meant no harm, but it made things complicated.
“You shouldn’t joke about things like that,” I said. “I don’t want to give you the wrong idea.”
Mara tilted her head slightly, studying my face. “What wrong idea?” she asked. “That I like you? I’m pretty sure that one is already clear.”
I clenched my fists at my sides. “Mara—”
“I know,” she interrupted gently. “You don’t feel the same way. You’ve said it without saying it.” She smiled again, but this time it didn’t fully reach her eyes. “Still doesn’t stop me from trying.”
I sighed and sat down on the bench beside her, leaving enough space between us. “You deserve someone who can give you everything,” I said. “I can’t do that.”
“Because of Sienna,” she said quietly.
I wonder how she knew. Sienna has told everyone we were siblings but I guess Mara was not convinced. But I was not entirely sure if she knew we were mates.
I froze for a second, then nodded. There was no point lying. “Yes. Because of her.”
There was a brief silence between us. I could hear the sound of other warriors training at a distance, the clash of metal and the thud of feet against the ground. Mara stared straight ahead, her hands resting on her lap.
“She cares about you a lot,” Mara finally said. “Anyone can see that.”
“She’s all I have,” I replied. “And I won’t risk that. Not for anything.”
Mara stood up slowly. “Then I guess I should stop bothering you,” she said, forcing a light tone. “At least I can say I tried.”
I stood up as well. “Mara, I don’t want things to be awkward between us.”
“They won’t be,” she said quickly. “I promise. I just needed you to know.” She paused, then added, “Besides, I think my brother already suspects something is off with you.”
My heart skipped. “What do you mean?”
She glanced around before lowering her voice. “You’re different. You fight like someone who has seen real war. Not just pack battles. And you hide too much.”
I said nothing. Saying anything would only dig me deeper.
Mara stepped back. “Don’t worry. I won’t tell him anything,” she said. “Not unless you give me a reason to.”
With that, she turned and walked away, leaving me alone on the field.
I stood there for a long time after she left. Her words stayed with me. The Alpha had already been watching me closely.
I noticed it during meetings, during patrol briefings. The way his eyes lingered on me, like he was trying to peel back layers I worked hard to keep hidden.
Later that evening, I found Sienna near the stream behind the living quarters. She was washing her hands, her sleeves rolled up. When she saw me, she smiled, but it faded when she noticed my expression.
“What happened?” she asked.
“Mara,” I said simply.
Her shoulders stiffened. “What did she do?”
“She didn’t do anything wrong,” I replied. “She just made things clearer than I would have liked.”
Sienna looked down at the water. “I knew this would happen,” she murmured. “I told you staying here wouldn’t be simple. What does she want?”
I looked at Sienna and for a moment, I was not sure if telling
her about Mara was going to be a good or bad thing.
