Chapter 59 Juliet's pov
Chapter 59 Juliet's pov
For a moment, I felt scared. Elder Vincent was not a man to be taken lightly. I knew he had ordered my execution. One of the guards told me that Olivere had managed to save me.
I don't know why, but I was not ready to find out. Everybody could change the moment I was able to find the Alpha with the blue blood.
All that was going to be left was to seduce him and make sure he was mine. Then, I was going to have the upper hand and make sure Olivere and Elder Vincent don't ever threaten me again.
That was the plan, though.
The room went quiet after his last words. It was the kind of silence that was deafening.
I stared at Elder Vincent, at the calm smile on his face, and I knew that smile was a lie. Behind everything he said was this look of betrayal.
Everything about him was a lie. The kindness he showed in public, the wisdom everyone praised him for, and even the way he spoke softly when he wanted people to trust him.
Underneath the mask, underneath all that, was a man who could order deaths as easily as he ordered drinks.
A man who was now offering me an “opportunity.”
I clenched my fingers together to stop them from shaking. I could feel Olivere’s eyes on me. I didn’t need to look at her to know that she wanted me to take the offer.
I could tell that she was scared too.
“Anything I want?” I repeated slowly, buying myself time.
Vincent leaned back in his chair, looking satisfied. “Anything within my power,” he said. “And my power stretches far, Juliet. Farther than you can imagine.”
I swallowed hard. My breathing caught a bit in my throat.
If I said no, I knew exactly what would happen. He wouldn’t shout again. He wouldn’t threaten me again. He would simply nod… and I would never walk out of that room alive.
Or worse, I would walk out and disappear later, quietly, without anyone asking questions.
If I said yes, I would be walking straight into the lion’s den.
Either way, I was already trapped.
“I don’t understand why you’re choosing me,” I said carefully. “There are others who are more qualified. People who have served you longer.”
His eyes narrowed slightly. Just slightly. “Because you are smart,” he replied. “And because you know when to listen. And not only that, my daughter seems to like you.” He said calmly, looking at Sienna and back at me.
That wasn’t the full truth. I could feel it in my bones.
He wanted me close. Close enough to watch. Close enough to control. Close enough to silence if I ever became a problem.
My thought went back to Sienna. The boldness in her eyes, her voice. I thought of the way she looked at me that night. She had this killer look, and it scares me.
I don't want to be on the losing side when all of this blows up. I know we might have managed to probably win today, but what about afterwards?
What happens when the truth is brought to light?”
If Vincent truly took the throne… no one would be safe. Not even the so-called elders that bowed at his feet.
But it was a gamble. A bet that I was ready to place my life on. All I needed was to do the right thing and let fate decide.
“I need time,” I said, even though I knew he wouldn’t like that answer.
He chuckled softly. “Time is one thing you don’t have, my dear.”
I looked at Olivere then. She was pale, her hands clenched at her sides. She gave me a small shake of her head, almost pleading. It was the first time I was going to see her desperate.
I still don't know why she saved me, but I knew it was not from the bottom of her heart, and I knew I was not ready to find out why.
The room went dead silent again.
“Give me your answer, Juliet. Become one of my people, and we can forget about this.”
“I’ll do it,” I said.
The words came out fast with my heart beating steadily.
Vincent’s smile widened. “Wise choice.”
Olivere raised her eyebrows up slightly. “Are you sure about this?”
I turned to her quickly. “It’s fine,” I said, forcing a small smile. “I can handle it.”
She didn’t look convinced. Neither was I.
“Good,” Vincent said, standing up. “Then we are settled. From this moment on, you answer directly to me. You will stay under my roof. You will follow my instructions. And you will not act on your own unless I say so.”
“Yes, Elder Vincent,” I replied, lowering my head.
I hated how easy it was to say his name like that.
He waved a hand dismissively. “You may go. Both of you.”
I didn’t wait to be told twice. I turned and walked toward the door, my legs feeling heavy, like they might give out at any second. Oliver followed me quickly, grabbing my arm as soon as we stepped into the hallway.
“What were you thinking?” she whispered harshly. “Do you know what you just agreed to? You are better off answering to me.” She said with her eyebrows squeezed.
“And do you know what happens to me if I say no? I don't know why you save me, but do you think what you're after is going to agree the second time?”
“You always have a choice,” she snapped at me.
I stopped walking and faced her. “Not with your father,” I said. “You know that.”
She looked away.
For a moment, neither of us spoke. Guards walked past us, their footsteps echoing loudly. Everything felt wrong. Like the walls themselves were listening.
“He’s dangerous,” Olivere finally said. “More dangerous than you think.”
I don't know why Olivere was suddenly telling me his father was dangerous. It was then I knew something must have gone wrong between both father and daughter. I need to find out.
“My father's going to want to know everything about me. My plans, and definitely he is going to use you to get to me.” Olivere said again. “You think you can outsmart him?” she asked.
“No,” I said honestly. “But I think I can survive him.”
That was the truth.
Survival had always been my strength.
“All you have to do is tell me what exactly you want me to feed the old man, and I will do it. This is a game; I want only one winner.”
Oliver turned to catch a glimpse of me. “And who are you rooting for?”
“You.” I said with a smile plastered on my face, but in actual truth, I am rooting for no other than myself.
