Chapter 48 Preparing for war
Evan was slightly taken aback. Immediately swatting his hands off hers, she buried them away from his reach.
“Why?Why did you want my blood?” Evan asked curiously.
“Because I am hungry. Now give me your hand.”
“I won't.You wanna hurt me,” Evan cried out as tears formed in her eyes, on the verge of rolling down her cheeks.
Ezekiel sighed, clearly tired of the girl's behavior.
“I won't hurt you;I am just hungry.” Saying this, he saw the girl smile.
“Hmm,so you're turning into a reaper vampire, huh? And you want to use me as your first food? No way.” She threw her face to the other side like a little kid refusing to agree to something.
Ezekiel was irritated and didn't have time to waste on this. So he pulled out her hand by force. The knife Evan was holding in her other hand sliced into her skin due to the force. Blood gushed out from it. Evan bit her tongue, preventing herself from letting out a sound. The cut was so deep that Ezekiel could see her red flesh.
He used his tongue, licking the blood on her hand. It rushed out like a stream of water.
Tears formed in her eyes as she tried to hold them in.But it was too late. They rolled down her cheeks, as hot as volcanic lava. Her face was on fire as she tried calming herself down.
Ezekiel pulled away from her hand and walked away without even sparing a glance at her face.
When he was out of view, she wiped her tears and continued eating her food as though nothing had happened. She wouldn't waste her precious tears on someone who didn't care about her.
When she was done eating the fruits, a maid handed her a message, telling her it was sent for her. She took it, opening the wrapped paper to see.
~Ella~
Ella wrote in white witches'alphabets so only Evan could read it. Ella was asking how she was doing and also asking a favor. She wanted Evan to go on a night mission with her to a little village. According to the name of the village mentioned in the letter, it had been facing threats from black witches and had managed to survive all this time. It was quite bigger than most villages, but there was a chance the village would die soon.
Of course, Evan couldn't possibly say “no” to this proposal. After all, this was what she was born for. She squeezed the paper into a ball, putting it into her mouth.
“Grace!”She called the maid, who immediately appeared.
“At your service,milady.”
“Where did you get this letter from?”asked Evan, smiling widely.
“From the letter delivery.”
“Hmm,I see.” Evan stood up, using her hands to pat the girl's head. Looking deep into her eyes, she said,
“There was no letter;you gave me nothing and you took nothing from anyone related to a letter.” After saying that, she looked away.
“How did I get here?”asked Grace.
“Haha, you were just picking up the plates,” Evan replied.
“Oh yes.”With that, she picked up the plates and left.
Evan sighed. She wondered how she could communicate with Ella. To do that, she needed a crystal ball. So far, she wouldn't find one unless she sent for it. If she did, they would all suspect her in the mansion. So at this point, she was doomed. She had left with Ezekiel unexpectedly and forgot the most vital thing: a crystal ball. Without that, witches can't communicate with each other.
She went up to her room, trying to figure out where she could get a crystal ball. An idea popped into her head. She smiled happily, stepping down from her bed to the third floor. Moving straight to Ezekiel's door, she knocked on it gently.
“Come in,” a voice said from inside the room. Taking a deep breath, Evan went inside, her face wearing a light smile.
“Master Ezekiel,”she greeted, giving a slight bow.
“I really need your help.I love fashion, and ever since I came here, nothing is captivating to the eyes. Even my clothes are all old-fashioned, dull colors. I feel so bored. I wanted to ask for money from you…” She paused, glancing at his face before continuing.
“It's an abomination, haha, but I can't help it. I wanted to tell my fellow reverend sister in the church, but I can't send a message. I actually don't know how to write or read,” she explained.
Before she could open her lips to breathe out another word,he threw a little sack filled with coins.
“There you go,now leave.” Evan bowed multiple times.
“Thank you, thank you.” She walked out of the room, closing the door behind her. A satisfied smile formed on her lips.
Without raising more suspicion, she went to the market, bought some clothes and shoes, and then the precious thing she went for: the crystal ball. She bought it in the potion shop. When she got back home, she went to her room first, telling the maids to arrange the clothes properly in the wardrobe, feeling very excited as though she was happy to wear new clothes.
After the maids were gone and it was now night time, she placed the crystal ball on the bed. She could hear the rabbit cursing under his breath.
She closed her eyes as she chanted the spell over and over again. Soon Ella's face appeared in the ball. Evan flashed her eyes open, looking into the crystal ball.
“My queen,”she greeted.
“What do you say about my proposal?”Ella asked as she waited patiently for Evan's answer, as though waiting for a final verdict.
“I'll go.”Evan's words made Ella breathe out in relief.
“That's a good thing.I heard Ezekiel will be attending Evan's burial tonight. He thinks you're dead.”
“I know,”Evan replied.
“He will be going tonight,so please get prepared. Wait for me at the green farm on Second Road. I'll meet you there. Bye for now.” And with that, her face vanished from the ball.
Evan sighed. Her thoughts couldn't help but wonder how tonight would look.
Because of a crystal ball, she had gone to the market this late. Throwing herself on the bed, she wanted to appear at that burial to prove to everyone that Evan wasn't dead.
