Chapter 36 Attack
“Both Anna and Evan.”
“Who?Where are you coming from?” Isabella was taken aback. Her eyes popped out. Hearing someone had found out their truth.
Evan cleared her throat as she spoke.
“I went to the Donovan's mansion,”she replied. Her face became as innocent as a puppy. Her nose twitched from nervousness.
“Wha?You…” The words caught in Isabella's throat. She couldn't even exhale. Evan never wanted to hear anything about Zeke. Isabella specifically told her to check up on the Donovan's mansion in disguise, but Evan refused, saying she never wanted to see the break light of that place. Only for her to go there today and the spell expired out of the blue.
“What did you go there to do?” Isabella asked as Evan walked past her. She threw her body on the one armchair next to Isabella.
“I went to check up on something.”
“Ezekiel?”
“No!”She honestly hated the name with passion.
“I went to check on something! Let's leave it that way! Me and you will no longer talk about this. Rather, help me figure out a way to get myself out of this mess,” she growled angrily. Her jaw clenched. Her finger tapped on the arm of the chair due to impatience.
“You got yourself into this mess! Why did you go without informing me? I could've told you the spell would expire.”
“That doesn't stop you from telling me.Now I'm so doomed.”
“They'll hunt you down again,”declared Ella.
“Let them.I am ready for all those motherfuckers,” she bit her button lips, her head consumed with thoughts.
“I heard some strange creatures destroyed six villages and the council officials are looking for…”
“What does that have to do with me?”asked Evan, sitting upright, eyes about to pop out from their sockets.
“It has nothing to do with you, but be careful.” Ella knew the kind of attitude Evan had. Always unbothered with vital things.
“Hahaha!!Why should I? The world is so free, dear!”
“I am just saying because Duke Zeries asked some men to look for Anna the white witch.”Saying that was enough to make Evan's face flush red.
“Huh?How do you mean? Why will they look for me? Do they want to kill me?” Numerous questions left her lips. Her mouth fell open, waiting for an answer from Ella.
“They want you to help them find which type of creature killed and burnt down those villages.”
“Why?”
“They think you're a white witch that possesses the power of a witch queen.”
Evan was stunned. She blinked and even pinched herself, making sure this was reality. She slumped back into the seat. Her lips broke into a sarcastic smile and a chuckle escaped her lips.
Isabella lifted a brow, trying to read Evan's motives.
“Why will they think I'm a white witch? I'm obviously…”
“Because you grew up here,”Ella cut in.
“Pfft. Why do you speak as if I am a kid raised by you?” Her words made Ella's face break into a smile. Her smile was enough to warm Evan's heart.
“If I'd raised you,I’d have made sure this nasty character of yours was all gone. You wouldn't be stubborn, not even a little. Mrs. Caviar did a bad job on that part,” confessed Ella.
“Haha.”They both laughed. “If I raised you, I'll make sure to steal all your beauty, leaving you with ugliness, Hahahaha.” Evan laughed out. “When I'm done, I'll send you back to the river.” Before she could successfully end her last words, something exploded from outside. It was massive enough to make the earth tremble.
Both Evan and Ella stood up,mystified.
Evan's breathing tightened.“What was that?” she asked, trying to breathe out the air caught in her throat.
“I have no idea. I have no idea,” replied Isabella. Her heart pounding. “Let's go check up on everyone immediately!”
They both exited the door, running into the village. They saw strange creatures in black cloaks attacking their people. The scene was unbearable to witness. The witches tried fighting back, but they were powerless against the creatures.
“Help, help!” Everyone screamed as they saw Evan and their queen Isabella in view.
“Lord of the heavens! What are these creatures?” Evan had never seen anything like this. Her brain wrapped everything together, as if realizing who these creatures are. “I think these are the creatures who burnt down the villages,” she informed Isabella.
“I think so.I really don't know which step to take at this point,” Isabella confessed, her body trembling. She closed her eyes, trying to summon strength back to her blood vessels.
Evan saw her close her eyes, chanting something under her breath. Tears streamed down her cheeks. Evan could see the desperation in her eyes. She wants to save her people from these deadly creatures.
“Let me help!If it's something that will take too much soul energy, let me do it,” said Evan. She stretched her hand forward and icy weapons of different forms came out. They went straight into the air, locating those creatures in black cloaks. However, the weapons refused to penetrate through their bodies.
Evan gritted her teeth, foaming with anger. Isabella suddenly ran to where she stood.
“Evan,I have an idea. Let's go back to the dark forest! Immediately!” Acknowledging the idea, Evan nodded her head in agreement. Closing her eyes shut, all the witches in the village disappeared into the air, including Isabella. Evan was the only one left. All the creatures turned towards her. The scariest part was they were all floating in the air.
She observed them closely, trying to predict where they were from. One flew in her direction, holding a scythe in his hand, intending to use it to rip Evan's skin. However, Evan was quick to dodge. She used her icy weapons to pull off his cloak cap, hoping she would see his face. To her greatest surprise, the cap flew effortlessly in the air, hanging through the back.
A skeleton-like face was in view.It had a bit of flesh, but it was all rotten and smelling. Her eyes widened. “The dead?”
