Chapter 35 I am sick that's why
The next morning, after Zeke was done having his blood breakfast, he sat in the study room wearing a black cloak that hid his honey-like skin. His face was strewn with seriousness. His mood was dull, yet his face refused to change its expression.
He had refused to go to work today, and it was almost noon. Yesterday, Lord Raphael had told him that they both had to go out for work to deal with something. Zeke knew how vital the meeting was, but still…
Zeke used any little health problem as a reason not to go to work. Once he felt a slight pain in his body, he would not make the mistake of going to work, treating it with unseriousness. There was a time he did not come to work for three days. Lord Raphael got angry and took his carriage all the way to the Donovan mansion. When he arrived, thinking something bad had happened to the boy, to his greatest surprise, Zeke was sitting in an armchair. His legs were crossed, and he leaned on it lazily, comfortably relaxed as if he were in heaven, sipping his bloodtea. Lord Raphael was disappointed and angry. He stepped forward, sending a punch to Zeke's face. This made him spit out all the blood in his mouth, causing him to stumble on the chair without any stamina.
Slowly,he groaned in pain and fell to the floor. Lord Raphael instructed him to get up, that they were both heading out to a particular village. Instead of doing that, Ezekiel lay down motionless, making Lord Raphael gaze at him, flabbergasted.
As if he were dead, Zeke lay on the floor until Lord Raphael left. It took Lord Raphael two good weeks before he was able to convince Zeke to forgive him.
Zeke loves doing things his way. There was also a time when some of the councilmen officials went to fight a specific hybrid of vampire. The king hybrid gave Zeke a solid punch in the middle of the battle. And instead of getting up to his feet like everyone would do, Zeke lay in the corner until the battle was over. When Lord Raphael asked, he replied that the war was so boring, saying he was getting bored and the war was without vibes.
Thinking about that girl from last night sent chills beneath his skin. He saw her; it was clear, and he was sure it was not a dream like every other time. It was her, Evan. The girl he had been searching for all this while. It was almost unacceptable. He had many questions. Like, was she still alive? And if she was, why were her eyes red?
That was the most intriguing question. He threw his head back as the memory played in his head.
“Ezekiel!!!”Someone burst into the study room. “Are you out of your damn mind?” asked Lord Raphael. “I have to come here myself to find you?”
It was true.Zeke would not read any letter sent by Lord Raphael.
Breathing harshly,he looked at the boy who refused to change his expression. If Lord Raphael scolded him this way, he would make more errors.
“Why. Did. You. Not. Come. To. Work. Today?” He stretched out every word calmly. Seeing that Lord Raphael was now at bay, he looked up at him.
“I am sick, that’s why,” he declared as though he were talking about the rain intending to fall by morning.
Lord Raphael was slightly taken aback, making him blink twice.
“Huh?What did you say?”
“I'm sick,”he repeated.
“HUH??What nonsense! Do vampires get sick? What shit are you trying to pull this time?” Of course, Lord Raphael would not believe that so easily. After all, vampires cannot fall sick.
“You won't understand, leave!” Hearing those words, Raphael gently took a seat close by.
“You can tell me,what happened?” he asked. His voice was dry with no emotion.
He saw Ezekiel take in a deep breath, closing his eyes as if trying to memorize something. After blinking open his eyes, “I saw her,” left his lips. The words made Raphael’s jaw fall. He could already tell who it was.
“Evan?”Zeke nodded silently. His eyes were as cold as ice.
“Damn, how did she look?” asked Lord Raphael.
“I don't know,I saw her but… her eyes were red.”
“Impossible! That's a human, right? Plus, only vampires have red eyes,” Lord Raphael’s voice came out a bit husky, filled with displeasure. Zeke did not care about that. All he cared about was the girl from last night.
“I'll send some men to hunt her down!” said Lord Raphael, clenching his fist tightly, making his knuckles turn white. Both of his brows were knitted together in anger.
Zeke finally spared him a glance.
“Don't,I don't need your help!” he said firmly, his words carrying action. Zeke loves performance rather than talking. To him, talking makes you lose face in people's eyes.
Lord Raphael stood up,taking two steps towards the door. “I have a lot of work to do. Take care, my son.” The word ‘son’ made Zeke lift a brow.
“Feel well,”with that, Lord Raphael closed the door, and Zeke could hear his footsteps disappearing into the corridor.
He sighed. At this point, his mind was glued somewhere else: to what happened last night. He had many questions. How had she escaped, and how were her eyes red? This was the most insane thing he had heard since the beginning of the year.
…
Evan went back to the Spring Ville village. Her expression was quiet for a parrot like her. After getting into the building where Isabella was, she saw Isabella sitting in an armchair.
“You're back!”Isabella’s voice rang out. However, Isabella noticed something. Her face was back to the real Evan, hiding Anna’s features.
“Wha—?”
“The spell you used had weakened.Guess what happened?” Evan tried explaining, but Isabella cut in.
“Oh no.I need to perform a ritual! So I can figure something out.”
“Ella, thanks for all your support. I appreciate it. But… he saw me. Both Anna and Evan.”
