Chapter 52 Kate's Blood.
I left Giron’s coven unnoticed after taking his left eye. There is no doubt that soon the council will hear about what I’ve done and come after me. Right now it wouldn’t be right to return to the palace. Not only would I be judged harshly for chooing to save Kate and hurt Giron, but they would also hunt Kate down once they hear about what her blood did to Giron.
Apparently Kate's blood is both useful and harmful to the vampires. I have no idea why it healed my father but hurt Giron. Did Kate make it so? Does she choose who her blood would save and who it would harm?
All these questions running through my mind was making me restless, but I have made up my mind to protect her with my life. I will willingly give up my throne for her. No one is ever going to hurt her under my watch.
I caught up to Camille and Kate in the woods. Unfortunately, Camille was attacked by the shadow monsters and she was trying her best to protect an unconscious Kate who was lying a few feet away from the fierce battle between the shadow monsters and Camille.
Apparently she was trying her best and holding her own against the monsters.
What surprised me more is the fact that the shadow monsters could not get close to Kate. They tried to attack her, but they just couldn't go anywhere close to her. It was like some invisible shield was protecting her. Something about her made them scared and I wondered what it is.
Kate is truly something special. If other species knows about her existence, it would put her in more danger. That is all the more reason why I have to protect her.
Camille sensed my precense and she turned to glare at me. “A little help here brother!” she called as she battled against a shadow monster.
I came to my sense and rushed forward to help her. Together we fought them off until they were all gone. They seem especially weaker than usual. Before more of them would arrive, I picked Kate up and we disappeared into the night.
Back at the mountain where Camille stays, I settled Kate down on a soft bed in Camille’s tiny bedroom. I knelt besides her staring at her lovely face. She looks so beautiful even with her eyes close. I pushed aside her dark hair to stare properly into her face.
She looks so peaceful and innocent. Unfit for this cruel world she stumbled in. If I had known from the beginning that I would come to care so deeply for her, I would have taken her back to the human world a long time ago. She deserves peace, and it's something my world can not give her, not with a blood like hers.
"Domenic," she mumbled out my name in her sleep. Her face was scrunched up in discomfort. The lines on her forehead shows she must be having an unpleasant dream.
"I'm here kitty," I assured and brushed her forehead to clear off the frown lines. Her face relaxed and she smiled slightly at my touch.
Yes Kitty, I'm the only one who can keep you safe, and no matter what happens, I'll protect you with my life.
I promise.
I stood up and left the room to give her some space to rest properly. Tomorrow once she regains consciousness, I'm sending her back to the human world.
Camille was seated there in her small living room when I walked in, sipping on her disgusting cup of animal blood.
"How's your girlfriend doing?" She asked with raised brows, her blue eyes shinning mischievously at me.
I rolled my eyes and settled on the seat beside her. She annoys me, but I have to be civil with her because she did help me get Kate back, and in my quest to protect Kate, I might still need her.
"Kate is fine. She's not too injured. I guess Giron didn't't have the chance to really hurt her." My fist clenched as I imagined what he would have done if Kate's blood hadn't poisoned him.
Kate saved him in a way. I would really have killed him if he had done anything extreme to Kate.
"What's her deal anyway?" Camille asked with a curious frown. "She smells different from any human I've ever seen. Her blood is too alluring. Despite my years of training, I was tempted to drink from her. It's strange."
I didn't want to tell her, but I decided that she deserves to know. After all, he's her father too. "Kate has a special blood. Father was in a critical condition some weeks ago. He almost breathed his last, but her blood saved him."
Camille's eyes widen, and for the first time since seeing her again, her playful demure was replaced with sadness. "Father almost died?" She asked in a low voice.
"Yes. Not once did you come to check up on him, yet the first person he asked of when he woke up was you." I held in my anger, "but you never cared about his health or whether he lives or die. You've always been selfish."
"I was in the middle of my training Domenic."
"That's not an excuse!" I growled.
She sighed and pushed aside her anger and guilt. She placed a warm smile on her face like she wasn't angry and guilty a while ago. "It doesn't matter now. All that matters is that father is okay now. Instead let's talk about why your girlfriend's blood saved father's life."
I pushed aside my anger and decided to focus more on asking Camille for her help. If she must help me, I'll have to tell her everything.
"It didn't just save father's life, it poisoned Giron and I don't know how."
"What?!" She exclaimed in shock. "Her blood is that powerful?"
"Yes, and because of that her life is in danger. If the vampires find out, they will either want to kill her, or use her as an experiment."
Camille was in deep thoughts. She stared down at her feet and said. "Even when we were attacked by the Shadow monsters, they didn't attack her. She was a much easier target for them, but they didn't touch her." She looked towards the bedroom in awe. "Just who is she?!"
"That makes it a lot more complicated Camille. We can't let the other species know about this. Our world have been looking for a way to get rid of the shadow monsters for years, if they find out what Kate's blood can do..." I shook my head and refused to think about it. "I have to send her back to the human world."
"Even in the human world, she will be hunted if they find out what she can do. Are you going with her?" Camille asked curious and somewhat hopeful.
I looked away in disappointment. "I can't go with her. I have to stay here and protect her."
She stared at me in shock. "What the hell do you mean Domenic? It would be easier to protect her if you're by her side."
"No!" I snapped. "It will be easier to protect her here. There is only one portal that leads to the human world, and I'll never let anyone pass through it. That's how I'll protect her."
"But..."
"I have made my decision Camille!" I snapped to shut her up. "I'll stay here and protect Kate, and that's final!"
With that I walked out of the room.
