Chapter 206: “Don’t Make Mom Angry” (Part 2)
Jack pulled Alison aside and whispered, “Alison, maybe that was my father.”
Deep down, Jack felt a mix of excitement and confusion. If he were still alive, why hadn’t he come to see us? Didn’t he miss his family?
“Ethan, why did you run off to find your sister?”
You didn’t even tell me. Alison was stunned by her son’s courage.
“Mommy, I saw you crying all the time. Sophia was lost. I’m a boy, I should protect you and my sister. So I went looking for that car, hoping to find her. I spotted the car and chased after it with all my might…”
“Then what?” Alison pictured the scene Ethan described. It was unbelievable.
Ethan said casually, “The car stopped, and Sophia got out. Godfather’s people came and brought us back.”
“Ethan, you scared Mommy to death. Next time, tell Mommy first. Let Mom and Dad handle it together, okay?”
Ethan grinned. “But, Mommy, you and Daddy finally got to see each other. I don’t want to bother you two.”
Jack ruffled Ethan’s hair and joked, “Tomorrow, Daddy will take you for an IQ test.”
Maybe you’ll be a scientist when you grow up, Ethan.
Ethan perked up at this, holding his head high. “Daddy, Sophia and I are twins. We share a special bond. That’s why I can sense where she is.”
Alison gently pinched his nose. “Remember to tell Mommy first. Otherwise, I’ll get scared and faint, okay?”
Ethan’s eyes widened. “Like that time?”
“Yes.” Alison nodded.
Ethan said, “I’m sorry, Mommy. I was flying the kite when Sophia suddenly appeared. I just ran after her and forgot how worried you’d be. I’m truly sorry. I only wanted to help you find her.”
His apology was so sincere that Alison couldn’t bring herself to scold him further. But the man still lingered as a mystery in her mind—Jack’s father or someone else; either way, he had shown no harm toward Sophia.
Jack said, “Alison, let’s go home.”
The children cheered, “Yay! Daddy’s coming home with us!”
As soon as they stepped out of the hotel, a pack of paparazzi swarmed them. “Mr. Winston, are these children yours? Did you call off your engagement with Miss Rolland because of these children and their mother?”
Jack ignored them, signaling his assistant to push the reporters aside. Shielding Alison and the children with his arm, he strode toward the parking lot.
A gossip reporter chased after Jack, shouting, “Mr. Winston, are those two children your illegitimate offspring?”
Alison hurriedly opened the car door and ushered the children into the backseat. She didn’t want them to hear any of this.
But she couldn’t stop them hearing.
Ethan asked, “Daddy, are we illegitimate?”
Jack answered without hesitation, “No, you’re both my children.”
Sophia asked curiously, “Then why did that man say that?”
Jack explained, “They’re just making things up. Ethan, do you believe Daddy?”
Ethan replied, “Of course! I believe you, Daddy!”
While buckling her seatbelt, Sophia asked, “Daddy, will you ever leave us again?”
Jack smiled and replied, “No, I won’t.”
He started the car, feeling a weight lift from his shoulders. After Alison gave Jack her address, she closed her eyes and dozed off. She was too exhausted.
However, Jack didn’t follow the route. Instead, he drove straight toward the large house he’d wanted to show her for a long time. Everything there was ready, waiting only for the three of them to arrive.
Ethan asked curiously, “Daddy, where are we going? This doesn’t seem like the way home.”
His words made Alison awake. She gazed out the window, then suddenly sat bolt upright. “Where are you taking us?”
Jack smiled and replied, “I’ll kidnap you, Sophia, and Ethan.”
Alison froze, bewildered. “Huh…what?”
Ethan and Sophia, however, shouted excitedly, “Daddy, kidnap us! We want to stay with you!”
Speechless at the children’s antics, Alison closed her eyes. “Stop it! Let me sleep. We’ll talk when I wake up.”
She finally fell asleep. Night had long since deepened, and the children drifted into their dreams, too.
