Chapter 73
Chapter 73
I nodded with a smile.
But that alone wasn't enough.
After having dinner with Michael, I returned to my office and suddenly remembered that my documents were still outside. I went to the printer and picked up the files again. Someone was sneaking around behind me, and only when they realized I hadn't noticed anything did they visibly breathe a sigh of relief.
The day passed without incident. From time to time, people from my team came to report to me, and I handled everything normally.
"Nancy, this project is very important to our company. I'm putting you in full charge of it. Don't let me down."
Bobby Owens, the deputy manager of the project department, wasn't exactly close to me—we were just colleagues.
After calling me in, he spoke to me earnestly.
If it were someone else, they might think Bobby was trying to promote me. But I knew very clearly that he had already started plotting against me.
I nodded with a smile.
"Of course. Just wait for the good news."
As I left his office, I caught a glimpse of Bobby taking out his phone and calling someone unknown.
The smile on his face looked like something great was about to happen.
I smiled again.
Being able to sit in the deputy manager's position was actually pretty good for him. In this city, he had achieved a certain status.
Too bad he wanted more.
I casually tossed that document into my drawer. For the next period of time, the entire team worked hard on this project.
Everyone worked day and night, sometimes even taking work home. They'd come in the next day with dark circles under their eyes, looking exhausted.
Before the project bidding started, I got a message from Michael and went to sit in his office for a while.
"Nancy, that person is no good. I fired him directly so you wouldn't have to waste energy dealing with it."
Michael was afraid I'd get tired. This wasn't the first time he'd suggested this solution.
I rested my head on his chest. "Mr. Johnson doesn't think I can handle this?"
Michael naturally wouldn't argue with me. He said without hesitation, "How could that be? Our Nancy is the best. I just want you to focus all your energy on me."
As he finished speaking, his body was already leaning toward me. Even though we were in the office, his penis was erect, pressing against my butt, as if he might need release at any moment.
I patted behind me with some disgust.
"Mr. Johnson, I have to go to the bidding meeting soon. Please put your thing away."
Michael looked pitiful. "But I'm uncomfortable..."
I turned to look at him, then at his lower body. Michael took the opportunity to suddenly pull my hand over to touch it.
"The door isn't locked," I said anxiously.
But Michael picked me up by the waist. When I finally left Michael's office, my arms felt very sore.
When I arrived at the bidding meeting location, Della was about to submit the bid, but I stopped her at the last minute.
"Wait."
Della looked at me strangely. "What's wrong?"
I took out another bid from the folder. "Submit this one."
Della looked at me with confusion.
"Just do as I say," I said without hesitation.
After hesitating for a moment, Della nodded.
At the bidding meeting, everyone was a competitor, so naturally, there wasn't much to say.
But I felt like someone was staring at me. When I turned my head, that person pretended to look away, but I saw clearly.
Halfway through the bidding meeting, I went out to use the restroom. At the bathroom door, I happened to hear that person on the phone.
"Don't worry. Based on the information they gave us, our bid is absolutely perfect. We'll definitely win this time!"
I snorted coldly, catching that person's attention.
As he looked over, I casually walked into the restroom.
Want to win the bid? Not that easy.
After returning to the company, Bobby called me into his office with a big smile.
"How did it go, Ms. Smith?"
I raised my eyebrows and said mysteriously, "The project results naturally have to wait for the client's conclusion."
Bobby smiled. "Ms. Smith is so capable, surely there won't be any mistakes!"
I nodded, and Bobby across from me smiled even more strangely.
A day later, we got the news.
We won big.
"After working so hard all these days, staying up late every night, we finally got it! We really deserve it!"
Della stretched hard, speaking with some excitement.
Bobby rushed over from a distance. When he reached me, I stopped him. "Mr. Owens, is there something you need?"
Bobby stopped abruptly. The words were on the tip of his tongue, but he clearly couldn't say them.
I smiled.
It looked like he had figured it out. If he pressed me about why we won the project after he leaked the bid, he'd be exposing himself.
Before finding another job, he obviously wanted to keep this one.
"Does Mr. Owens want to ask me why we still won the bid after you leaked it?" I asked him with a smile.
Bobby was shocked, but he knew how to act. Hearing this, he didn't reveal anything and instead smiled and said, "Ms. Smith, what are you talking about? What do you mean by leaking the bid? The bid was in your hands the whole time. How could I leak it?"
When I mentioned leaking the bid, everyone's attention turned to us.
Everyone knew how serious leaking a bid was. Once a bid was leaked, all the hard work during this time would be wasted.
I looked at him with a smile. "I investigated you. You have a good relationship with Stella, and Stella recently joined a competing company. You must have been trying to help her."
After I exposed this relationship, Bobby clearly knew this matter couldn't end well. He said through gritted teeth, "I don't know what you're talking about. I came over to congratulate you on winning the project. Ms. Smith, you've misunderstood me."
"Whether there's a misunderstanding or not, you'll have to tell the police."
Two police officers walked in from outside and showed Bobby their badges.
"Bobby Owens, please come with us."
Bobby swallowed and looked at me in disbelief. "You already called the police. You were waiting here for me!"
"If Mr. Owens is innocent, I'm sure you'll be able to leave the police station. When that happens, I'll apologize to Mr. Owens."
Bobby was taken away by the police, and my team members, who didn't know what had happened, looked at each other, clearly confused.
I sat in front of them and asked with a smile, "Our project data was maliciously tampered with long ago. You all looked at that data every day. Didn't any of you notice?"
Everyone looked at each other even more.
My expression turned cold because this was negligence! This incident was a warning.
