Chapter 72
I didn't stop him.
This matter definitely needed to be investigated thoroughly. Whether it was Michael or me made no difference.
After hanging up the phone, Michael pulled me over, looking quite alarmed.
"It's okay, don't worry."
I quickly reassured him.
From the fact that Michael was willing to die with me, I could tell that he valued me as much as his own life. If something really happened to me, he would truly risk his life to be with me.
At this moment, Michael was probably even more anxious than I was.
Michael hugged me tightly. I could feel his emotions surging behind me, erupting into extremely strong anger.
"Whoever dares to do such a thing, I will make them pay!"
I clasped my hands over his on my back. "Of course, I believe Mr. Johnson will protect me well, right?"
Michael nodded.
Actually, investigating this matter wasn't difficult. Any action leaves traces, especially when it was sent through express delivery.
Michael told me to work well at the company and not to worry.
In the afternoon, I glanced at my phone, put down my current work, and walked upstairs to Michael's office. Along the way, I calmly greeted several colleagues I knew.
After entering the office, Michael pulled me over. His lips pressed against mine with great force, as if he couldn't wait to devour me completely.
I quickly grabbed his hand. "Okay, didn't you say you've already investigated it? What's going on?"
Michael showed me all the surveillance footage from when the package was sent. It was a very familiar figure that we both recognized immediately—it was Jane.
Jane.
I didn't expect it would be her. I was quite surprised.
"So what are you going to do about it?" I continued asking Michael.
A smile appeared at the corner of Michael's mouth. He sneered and said directly, "If Jane dares to send such a threatening package to you, then she must pay the price!"
"I've already asked her to come to the company. We'll wait for her here!"
Jane didn't avoid it. Before long, she appeared in front of me.
She still had the same smile as before. If I hadn't seen that surveillance video, I probably wouldn't have believed that Jane did it.
"Michael, Ms. Smith, may I ask why you called me here?"
Michael placed his phone on the desk. On the screen was nothing other than the video of Jane sending the package.
Jane pretended to be shocked, covering her mouth and saying in disbelief, "This person looks so much like me."
Michael and I exchanged glances. We really didn't expect Jane to deny it so flatly. The person in front of us was clearly her—anyone who knew her even slightly would know that.
"This person really isn't you?" Michael slowly spoke, his tone full of mockery.
Jane acted as if she didn't understand the deeper meaning in his words. After sitting down, she said, "How could it be me? I've never sent any packages. Besides..."
She looked carefully at the surveillance video and pointed to the timestamp. "At this time, I was getting a beauty treatment. Everyone at the shop can vouch for me!"
Jane denied it flatly and had an alibi.
"Michael, what was in that package? You don't suspect I'm behind this, do you?"
As if sensing something, Jane suddenly stood up from her chair.
"I admit my attitude toward Ms. Smith wasn't that good before, but I wouldn't do something like this. You've misunderstood me."
After Jane left, Michael's expression still didn't look good.
Seeing his obvious displeasure, I leaned against him and asked, "What? Do you believe her?"
Michael shook his head without hesitation.
"I don't believe that kind of talk!"
"I'll find evidence sooner or later!"
"I believe in Mr. Johnson," I said repeatedly, afraid that Michael would get upset over this.
But Michael grabbed my hand.
"Nancy, I absolutely won't let anyone ruin our wedding, and I won't let anyone hurt you."
Hearing this, I nodded.
After leaving Michael's office, I returned to my desk. I keenly noticed that the documents I had left on the desk seemed to have been moved.
I was very sensitive to this and definitely wouldn't be wrong.
I frowned, then went to check the surveillance footage, only to learn that there had been a problem with the surveillance earlier—it had been under maintenance the whole time.
This was definitely not a coincidence.
I was certain without hesitation.
I picked up the documents and looked at them. In the evening, I shut down my computer as usual and glanced at the surveillance camera in front that had been repaired.
Early the next morning, when I arrived, there were again traces of someone going through things on my desk. I even found numerous tampering records in the company's internal system. All the project reports we had done before had been altered.
I smiled.
It seemed this person really wouldn't stop until they achieved their goal!
I just didn't know how far they could go.
I directly contacted the technical staff to investigate and archive all the operation logs. While handling this matter, it was already noon before I knew it.
Just then, Michael's call came through.
As soon as I answered, I heard his obviously aggrieved voice on the other end. "Nancy, I sent you messages. Why didn't you reply?"
I exited the call interface and saw that Michael had indeed sent me quite a few messages in the morning, but I had been busy investigating and hadn't replied.
Seeing that I didn't respond, he didn't seem to want to dwell on this topic.
"Nancy, let's have lunch together. I had my assistant order food."
I knew Michael was informing me, not asking for my opinion. I agreed.
Michael was obviously very excited.
"Nancy, I'll wait for you then."
After hanging up, I clicked print on a prepared document. When I walked over, the document had already printed out.
I flipped through it a couple of times and accidentally left the document on the desk next to the printer.
This document was very important!
After entering Michael's office, I sat on the sofa browsing the surveillance on my phone.
Last night, I had already asked Michael to give me access. From here, I could see real-time surveillance of the document I had left behind.
I didn't watch for long. In fact, Michael had just finished setting out the food when someone secretly appeared, opened the document I had left behind, looked through a few pages, then took out their phone and started taking photos.
I sneered.
This person finally came.
Just not very smart. Before long, they had completely exposed themselves. The person behind this must be disappointed!
"Nancy, so you've found out who the traitor is."
Seeing my happy expression, Michael also came closer, asking with a smile. He didn't forget to rest his chin in the crook of my neck, rubbing slightly, making me feel unusually ticklish.
