Chapter 51 Persistent Aversion

Chapter 51 Persistent Aversion

Lila couldn't stop herself from trembling slightly, biting her lower lip.

She thought she must be crazy, completely under Killian's spell.

Otherwise, how could she have ended up wearing his oversized shirt, letting him have his way with her against the glass door all night long?

The price of indulgence was almost being overpowered by Killian in bed.

It wasn't until the afternoon of the next day that Lila fully regained her senses.

Last night had drained her more than three days of training.

She had planned to take a good rest, but her luxury car was already waiting at the door.

Lila, still groggy, had just reached the entrance of the club when she saw a few people she didn't want to see.

Phelan and Calanthe walked into the club hand in hand.

Whoever she least wanted to see show up.

Lila shot a fierce glare at Killian beside her. If it weren't for him insisting on coming, she wouldn't have run into that scumbag Phelan.

Since she was already here, Lila had no choice but to accept reality.

She found an inconspicuous corner to sit down.

Having come this far, sneaking out midway was almost impossible. Lila sighed.

Even though Lila tried her best to lower her presence, sitting quietly on the side, she was the focus of everyone's attention.

People's gazes kept drifting towards her.

This party was just a typical high-society gathering.

Such gatherings happened frequently in Vesperhaven.

The upper class liked to stick together, exchanging resources and excluding outsiders.

This wasn't Lila's first time attending a banquet with Killian, so it wasn't surprising that some people recognized her.

"Look, isn't that the woman who's been trending on social media these past few days?"

"Yeah, that's her. Both Hart brothers are head over heels in love with her. I wonder what kind of charm she has."

"Maybe she has some special skills we don't know about. Just look at her seductive demeanor; she must be good at enticing men."

These socialites were being deliberately loud, and Lila heard every word clearly.

When Emily walked over, Lila's expression darkened.

"Finding it hard to be an assistant and switching to being an influencer?"

"What I choose to do is none of your business. Miss, we're not that familiar, so your behavior is quite inappropriate."

Hearing the commotion, more people gathered around them.

These high-society ladies, despite their glamorous appearances, were even more gossipy than the average person.

They fully utilized the power of rumors, adding their own imaginations to the mix.

Emily, being publicly rebuffed by Lila, felt humiliated.

She always prided herself as the future Mrs. Hart and couldn't understand why she wasn't standing next to Killian today.

The chattering socialites around her were driving Lila crazy.

She wished she could just get rid of these gossiping women, but she couldn't.

She remembered her current persona was that of a delicate woman, so all she could do was glare at them.

"Have you said enough? Is prying into others' privacy that entertaining?"

Lila's tone was icy, her gaze even colder.

The aura of a killer emanated from her, and the women were stunned by her presence.

Emily was also taken aback. She hadn't expected Lila to be so confident, backed by Killian, making her so brazen.

"Miss Voss, you seem to be dependent on someone."

Unable to win verbally, Emily resorted to personal attacks.

Hearing this, the surrounding socialites joined in.

"Just a man's plaything. I wonder if she's any good. Maybe she can teach us how to stay trending."

"Don't be ridiculous. If you trended for that, your dad would kill you."

The more they talked, the more excited they became, as if stepping on Lila would give them immense pleasure.

Lila remained expressionless, quietly listening to their taunts.

Even though she didn't care, she was still angry.

Suddenly, a soft female voice came from behind.

"How can you say that about Miss Voss? She didn't want any of this to happen; it's all a misunderstanding."

Everyone turned to see Calanthe standing at the back of the crowd, wearing a scarlet dress, looking graceful and elegant.

Lila mentally gave her a thumbs-up for her cunning.

Everyone knew that this popular influencer also came from a prominent family.

The Kynaston family had helped her a lot, and while they weren't top-tier, they were still far from ordinary.

Emily, who was a close friend of Calanthe, looked as if she had eaten something foul when she heard her defending Lila.

Calanthe enjoyed the attention, smiling shyly and taking Emily's hand.

"Emily, there's no need to be so hostile towards Miss Voss. Your feelings for Mr. Hart are one thing, but your families' marriage arrangements are extensive. You don't need to see her as a rival."

These words were blunt, exposing Emily's thoughts on the spot.

For once, Calanthe's words resonated with Lila.

She had no intention of taking Emily's place; she just wanted to make Emily a widow.

"Lila, we studied at the same art school. I'm your senior, and I've been in the industry longer. I have some advice for you."

Lila found it amusing. They had no real connection, yet she was trying to establish one.

Without waiting for Lila to respond, Calanthe continued.

"I know you just returned to the country, and your family situation is complicated. But you can't rush things. Most importantly, if you're not sure about something, don't make baseless claims and stir up trouble."

Lila was puzzled, unsure if this was genuine advice or just nonsense.

Listening to her ramble, Lila's patience wore thin.

"Miss, we're not familiar. You shouldn't speak to me in such a condescending manner. I have no intention of entering the entertainment industry, so your job is safe. You're no senior of mine."

The people present were all sharp.

Though they looked down on influencers, they maintained good relations with them to keep up appearances.

Hearing Lila's words, several ladies chuckled.

Calanthe had hoped to assert her presence with her experience, but she encountered Lila, who was unafraid and straightforward.
