Chapter 19 Chased by the wolves
ANGELICA'S POV
"Dylan! Ericson!" I rolled down the window and shouted their names.
I am sure they were shocked to see me. It was written all over their bloodied faces.
The wolf ran away as soon as our car neared them, probably startled, and I sighed in relief.
Well, at least we were safe from these hungry predators who would tear us into shreds.
"What is happening? You know what? We don't have time for that. Get into the car quickly! Matt, help them," I asked, but then decided it was better to get into the action.
I ordered Matt before rushing to the driver's seat.
We need to leave before that wolf decides he can take us down.
Grrrrrr I heard a low snarl, and my blood ran cold. I gulped and turned my body slowly, my eyes widening at the sight in front of me.
My heart paced when I looked at the blinking golden eyes in the dark forest. What surprised me most was that there weren’t only one pair of blinking golden eyes but too many. If all these wolves were the same size as the earlier one, they would turn our car upside down in a second.
"Matt! Quickly!" I urged them to hurry, and as soon as Matt helped Dylan inside before jumping in, I didn't waste a single second in accelerating.
"What the hell is going on, Angelica? Who are these people? Why are they bleeding, and why are those wolves running behind us?" Matt asked with a hint of fear, probably worried about me. I looked at my bosses, who had anger in their eyes as they looked back at me.
I saw Dylan pressing his sides, and I gulped.
"These are the people I work for. They were in the club. I don't know what happened in the meantime. How about we concentrate on getting out of here rather than discovering what happened?" I turned the car swiftly, sending Dylan on top of Ericson, and he groaned before glaring at me.
"Sorry, I suggest you put on your seatbelts. It's going to be a bumpy ride," I said to them, and Matt turned around to look at my bosses after putting on his seat belt.
"Isn't this mask bothering you guys? Should you remove -"
"Don't," I looked at Matt in warning, and he nodded in understanding.
I turned the car swiftly to the left, making it screech. I swear it's been long since I drove a car like this. The last time was when some goons were chasing my stepdad, and I was given the responsibility to drive while he shot down those drivers who were driving the car behind us.
Yes, that was precisely why I couldn’t answer what my stepdad did when I was interviewed for the company.
I looked at my knuckles, which were turning white from anxiety. It wasn't just about saving two humans. It was about saving people who were worth trillions of dollars.
"Li!" Matt’s loud voice snapped me out of my thoughts, and I turned the steering wheel, making the car turn to the left with a screech and enter the forest. These wolves were catching up to us fast.
If they were just looking for food, I was sure they were more lured by four humans instead of two now. And if they wanted to have fun, I was sure I would give them some good games.
Wolves were predators by nature. Don't they love some hunting? And that was precisely what I was giving them: a chase.
"Dang it!" I growled, moving the car along the rough, raw pathway as I looked at the wolves nearing the vehicle in the side mirror.
There were around six that I could clearly see. If they got to us, I could say goodbye to all my good fortune and future.
Heck, I haven't even gotten the chance to talk to my dad and tell him how much I hate that man and how I wanted to kill him with my bare hands rather than cower away.
I couldn't let these wolves get to me.
This won't do. I need to speed up. I took a deep breath before turning the steering wheel so we were back on the road and accelerated the gas pedal more.
"Li, I think we are going a bit too fast now,” Matt held the support, and I looked at him helplessly.
"We aren't. If those wolves get to us, we are as good as dead. There is no way I am letting some hungry monsters ruin my plans. I have my life sorted for the first time, and I won't let these dogs get to me," I cracked the bones in my neck.
"Here we go," I rolled down the windows and let the air fan my skin, making me feel even better.
Now that I was driving, I think this adrenaline rush was exactly what I needed to clear my head.
"You want some chase? Come get us!" I murmured under my breath before accelerating even more, and Matt held the support for dear life.
"I swear if the tires of this car burst, then we are going straight to heaven," Matt grumbled beside me, and I looked at him with a smile.
"Who said you are going to heaven? I will take you to hell with me," I smiled at the scowl on his face before looking at my dashboard.
"Open it," I said, and he raised his brows at me.
"What's in that?" He asked, and I smiled.
"You would know," I sighed. He opened the dashboard and looked at its contents with wide eyes.
"This- ... You want to eat candies?" He looked at the candy box, and I grinned before nodding.
"Open the box," I scratched the car, my gaze meeting with Ericson's momentarily.
"Who taught you to drive like this?" He asked me, and I smirked.
"I told you during the interview, didn't I? I know how to deal with business," I smiled sheepishly.
Tonight might be my last night with the Martino men because no one would want a rogue and twisted personality like mine as their secretary. No company would like to keep an employee who has some bolts lost and gets off on adventures like these.
