Chapter 561 You Really Understand Me
Chapter 561 You Really Understand Me
"Sorry I'm late," Daniel said with a cheerful smile as he plopped down next to Edward. The stunning woman he brought along took a seat beside Royce.
"And this is...?" Nancy asked, surprised.
"This is my girlfriend, Anissa Hampton," Daniel said, wrapping an arm around Anissa's shoulders. "Turns out she's from Sunrise City too. Mr. Forbes, do you know her?"
Royce glanced at Anissa but didn't say anything. He had never been interested in women, and none of the prominent families in Sunrise City had the last name Hampton, so he had no impression of her.
Anissa smiled. "Mr. Forbes probably doesn't know me, but you're quite famous in Sunrise City. I never thought I'd meet you in person. You really are as handsome as they say."
Daniel raised an eyebrow. "Is it cool to say that in front of your boyfriend? Besides, Mr. Forbes' wife is right here."
The atmosphere in the room suddenly became awkward. Nancy looked at Daniel, who was acting unusually carefree. It was strange because Daniel had never brought a date to meet her before. His behavior today was out of character.
"Sorry," Anissa quickly apologized. "I was just joking. Mrs. Forbes, I hope you don't mind?"
Elsie shook her head. "It's fine."
In the past, seeing another woman with Daniel would have hurt her, but now she felt nothing. It seemed she had truly moved on.
Daniel handed a box to Elsie. "Elsie, I heard you're pregnant. This is a gift for the baby. I might not be able to come back when you give birth, so I'm giving it to you now."
"And what about me?" Nancy extended her hand.
"You too," Daniel said, handing her another box. "I didn't expect you to solve your marriage situation so quickly after returning home. Congrats on finding a rich and handsome husband."
Nancy opened the box to find a beautiful diamond necklace. She was very pleased; Daniel was as generous as ever.
"I'm a rich and beautiful woman myself, you know. Elsie, what's your gift?"
Elsie opened her box to reveal a small, pure gold teething ring.
"Very practical," Nancy couldn't help but laugh.
Royce glanced at Daniel and then at the gift he had given. His expression softened, and he finally relaxed.
"Do you like it?" Edward asked.
Nancy nodded. "I do."
Edward took her hand. "When we have a baby, I'll buy something for them too."
They exchanged smiles. At that moment, Daniel stood up. "I'm going out for a smoke."
Nancy immediately got up to follow him. "I'll go too."
Anissa wanted to follow, but Elsie stopped her. "Anissa, since you're from Sunrise City, you should come visit me sometime..."
On the balcony, Daniel looked at Nancy's flat stomach and asked, "Are you really pregnant?"
Nancy nodded. "Of course. Why would I lie?"
"Alright, I guess I need to quit smoking tonight," Daniel said regretfully, putting away his cigarette.
Nancy looked him up and down. "I've never seen you bring a girlfriend before. Anissa isn't really your girlfriend, is she?"
"You figured it out so quickly."
"Yeah, I guess you did this to help Elsie and Royce move past what happened before. But you didn't need to go to such lengths. They're doing great now."
"I can see that," Daniel said with a smirk. "You really know me well, to even guess that."
But sometimes she didn't understand him at all, couldn't feel his intentions. Maybe it was because he always acted like a playboy, so Nancy never thought of him that way.
"I didn't expect you to be so considerate," Nancy said with a smile.
"When I found out their marriage had issues, I had a hunch. Later, I noticed Royce was very hostile towards me, so I thought I'd use this opportunity to clear things up. I didn't want to be the cause of any conflict between them."
Daniel gazed into the distance. "Elsie is a good girl. I want her to be happy. Royce is a good man, worthy of her. I hope they do well together."
Nancy smiled. "I didn't expect you to be so thoughtful. But does Anissa know about this? Don't create another emotional debt because of Elsie. If you hurt Anissa, you're done for."
"Of course not. I told her beforehand. She was excited to see Royce and Edward, so she agreed to help. Didn't you see her eyes light up when she saw Royce?"
"If you create a rival for Elsie, I won't forgive you."
Daniel waved his hand. "She knows her limits. Otherwise, I wouldn't have brought her."
Nancy felt a bit more at ease. "Alright, let's go back. I'm starving."
"Wait," Daniel said, catching up to her. "Don't tell Elsie about this. And since I made such a big sacrifice for her marriage, as her best friend, you should make it up to me."
"Get lost," Nancy said, pushing him away.
When they returned to the room, Anissa was chatting animatedly with Royce and Edward. When she saw Daniel, her smile faded a bit.
Daniel gave her a look, signaling her to tone it down.
Anissa quickly moved closer to him. "You're back! You were gone so long, I missed you."
"Well, I'm back now. Let's eat. You'll need your strength for tonight," he said with a meaningful smile.
Anissa playfully pushed him. "You're so annoying!"
Nancy rolled her eyes. Was it really necessary to act this much?
Royce added some food to Elsie's plate and then said to Nancy, "Nancy, you should stay with us for the next couple of days. According to tradition, the bride should leave from her home."
"That's right," Elsie agreed. "And you shouldn't see each other the day before the wedding. Come stay with us, and we can chat."
Nancy shook her head. "No, Juliana has been very clingy lately. She needs me to sleep with her every night. I want to spend more time with her. Our wedding is just a formality, no need to be so particular."
"Alright," Elsie said, a bit disappointed.
Edward fully supported Nancy's decision. Not only did Juliana like to stick to Nancy, but he did too.
Elsie asked, "Nancy, did your friends from abroad arrive? Why not invite them to join us for dinner?"
