Chapter 560 Pregnant Together
Chapter 560 Pregnant Together
Nancy was taken aback by her own words as soon as they slipped out.
"No, that's not what I meant..." She felt like no matter how she tried to explain, it wouldn't come out right. Tears of frustration welled up in her eyes.
Edward quickly pulled her into his arms, soothing her gently. "I know that's not what you meant, Nancy. I get what you're trying to say. How about I go and ask Juliana what she thinks? If she really feels that having a sibling would take away from the love she gets and make her feel it's unfair, then we won't go through with it."
Nancy suddenly remembered that they should ask Juliana. She had always wanted a little brother or sister before; maybe she was looking forward to this baby too.
"And besides," Edward continued, "Marlee said this child is meant to be with us. Can you really bear to give him up? This baby is a gift from God. He even helped us escape safely from the base. If we give him up, we might not be so lucky in the future."
These words hit Nancy right in her soft spot. She did feel that this child was a gift from God.
"I don't know what came over me just now. Let's go ask Juliana."
Edward patted her head. "It's normal to have mood swings with all the hormonal changes during pregnancy. You can always talk to me about your thoughts. Don't keep them to yourself. Come on, let's go find Juliana."
They went together to Juliana's room. She had just finished calling everyone she knew to tell them she had found her mom, and her face was beaming with pride.
Seeing them come in, she ran over with a big smile, and Edward scooped her up.
"Juliana, did you tell everyone?"
"Yes, I told everyone! Mom, Dad, are you here to play with me?"
"Not exactly," Edward said, touching his nose to hers. "We have something to ask you, and you need to answer honestly, okay?"
Juliana nodded. "Dad, I'm always honest. Ask away."
Edward looked at his sweet, obedient daughter and felt a pang of guilt. Now he understood how Nancy had felt earlier.
He had really neglected this child in the past, letting her grow up in loneliness. But now, there was still time to make things right. He was determined to be a good father from now on.
"Juliana, you always wanted a little brother or sister. Do you still want one?" Edward asked.
Nancy watched Juliana nervously, afraid she might be upset by the idea. But Juliana's eyes sparkled with excitement.
"Mom, Dad, are you going to have a baby? When will my brother or sister be here?"
Edward continued, "Would you feel like a brother or sister would take away our love for you, that we might ignore you and you wouldn't like them because of that?"
"Of course not," Juliana said, sounding very grown-up. "A baby would be younger than me, so you would need to take care of them more. I know that. I believe you won't stop loving me just because of a baby, especially Mom, because Mom loves me the most."
Nancy was so moved she almost cried.
It seemed that all the time they had spent together recently had paid off. Juliana now felt very secure and wasn't worried about losing her parents' love because of changes in their lives.
Nancy stepped forward, cupped Juliana's little face, and kissed her. "Juliana, you're right. I love you the most, and even if you have a brother or sister, I will still love you the most."
With a weight lifted off her shoulders, Nancy silently apologized to the baby in her belly for her earlier thoughts.
...
Edward and Nancy's wedding had been in the works for a while, so even though the date was close, they could still plan a grand and romantic ceremony.
Three days before the wedding, Daniel returned. As soon as his plane landed, he called Nancy. "Nancy, I'm back in the States. How about we grab a drink tonight with Elsie?"
"No drinks, just dinner," Nancy said, feeling a bit sleepy and yawning.
Daniel was surprised. "No drinks? What's gotten into you? Are you that tired from last night with Edward..."
"Stop it. You're getting more and more out of line. Elsie is pregnant and can't drink."
"Then we'll get her a glass of milk. We can drink."
"I'm pregnant too."
There was silence on the other end. Nancy checked her phone to make sure the call hadn't dropped. "Are you still there? No drinks for me either. You should rest at your hotel, and we'll have dinner tonight."
Daniel finally snapped out of his shock. "Wow, you women and your friendships. You even plan to get pregnant together?"
Nancy couldn't help but laugh. "It wasn't planned. It just happened. Elsie got pregnant first. They don't know yet. I'm telling you because you're a good friend, but don't tell anyone else."
Last time at the Smith Mansion, Monica had insisted that she keep the pregnancy a secret until after the first trimester.
Even though Nancy knew it was just an old superstition, she decided to respect Monica's wishes.
"Alright," Daniel sighed. "You all have families and are about to have kids. I'm the only single one left. How am I supposed to spend my long, lonely nights?"
"Come on, you could end your single life anytime you want. You just don't want to."
"You don't understand..." Some people, once missed, are missed forever.
Sometimes he wondered if things would be different if he had been braver and confessed his feelings to Nancy back then.
But he knew the outcome. Nancy would have rejected him and distanced herself.
Nancy remembered Edward once saying that Daniel liked her. She hadn't thought much of it then, but looking back, it seemed there were signs. She had always seen Daniel as a good friend and hadn't noticed.
"Men's issues are beyond me," she said vaguely. "I have to call Elsie now. I'll send you the address later."
She quickly hung up, pushing away the strange thoughts, and called Elsie.
"Elsie, Daniel's back. Let's have dinner tonight at our usual place."
Hearing that Daniel would be there, Elsie hesitated. Her relationship with Royce had just stabilized, and she didn't want any issues because of Daniel.
Royce, who was nearby, took the phone and answered, "Sure, see you tonight."
After hanging up, Royce held her hand and said softly, "Elsie, I don't care about those things anymore. I know you love me, and now we have our baby. I trust you. I'll take you there tonight."
Elsie looked up at him. "Come with me tonight."
Royce was taken aback but then replied, "You go ahead. I don't need to come."
"Please, come with me. I feel uneasy without you," she said, pouting.
"Alright!" No man can resist his wife's pleading, and Royce was no exception.
That evening, Edward and Nancy, along with Royce and Elsie, arrived at the restaurant on time. Shortly after, Daniel showed up fashionably late, with a woman by his side.
