Chapter 559 How About We Don't Keep This Child
Chapter 559 How About We Don't Keep This Child
Hearing those words, a glimmer of clarity returned to Aria's eyes.
Gavin gave a bitter smile. "Even after everything he's done to you, you still can't let him go."
"Aria, once he's out of the picture, I'll get you out of here. I'll make sure you know who truly loves you in this world."
In the hospital room, Aria continued to hum an unknown tune, seemingly oblivious to everything around her.
Gavin took a long, hard look at her before leaving.
After he left, tears began to fall from Aria's eyes, filled with overwhelming hatred.
...
The Smith Villa.
Philip found Edward. "Mr. Smith, Mr. Brown is here. He wants to see you."
"Gavin!" Edward shot up, gritting his teeth. "I haven't even had the chance to go after him, and now he's come to me. He really doesn't respect me at all."
Nancy immediately started towards the door. "That bastard! Today, I'm going to teach him a lesson."
Gavin had the nerve to steal her child and keep her separated from Juliana for so many years. She had to get revenge. If she didn't make Gavin suffer, she wouldn't be worthy of being Juliana's mother.
Edward quickly calmed her down. "Don't be impulsive. Didn't we agree that I'd handle this? Let's hear what he has to say first. Don't worry, I won't let him off easy."
Nancy took a deep breath. "Alright, I won't be impulsive."
Hand in hand, they went downstairs. Gavin stood up from the couch when he heard their footsteps, smiling at them.
"Edward, long time no see."
"I heard you woke up. I just haven't had the time to visit. You seem to be recovering well," Edward responded coolly.
"You're so busy. Just knowing you care is enough for me."
"Please, have a seat," Edward said, guiding Nancy to sit down. "This is my wife, Nancy Taylor. Nancy, this is my cousin, Gavin Brown."
Nancy glanced at Gavin without speaking, her hostility evident.
Gavin's smile didn't waver. "I heard you're getting married. I came to congratulate you. When I heard the news, I wondered what kind of beauty could catch your eye. Now that I see Nancy, I understand. She's truly stunning and a perfect match for you."
"You must have heard about Aria," Edward said, looking at him. "I remember you were very protective of your stepsister. Now that she's in a mental hospital, what do you think about that?"
Edward watched Gavin's reaction closely.
Gavin shook his head, looking regretful. "I never thought she'd do something like this. She was so sweet and kind as a child. I feel responsible."
Edward sneered. "How are you responsible?"
Gavin looked ashamed. "Even though we're not related by blood, she's still my sister. So, I share some responsibility for her actions. It's a shame my stepmother died early. No one was there to teach her right from wrong."
"This isn't that simple. Someone must have helped Aria. She couldn't have done all this alone. Gavin, do you have any leads?"
"No, she's grown up and has her own thoughts. She doesn't tell me much. I'm sorry, I can't help."
While they talked, Nancy kept a close eye on Gavin's expressions. His answers were smooth and flawless. It seemed they wouldn't get anything out of him today.
She couldn't understand how someone could do such terrible things and still be so at ease. Both of them were inherently bad, which is why they ended up together.
Edward didn't want to talk to him any longer. He needed more evidence to see if Gavin had poisoned him and if anyone else was involved.
Once he had the evidence, Gavin wouldn't need to exist anymore.
"Get some rest," Edward said, signaling the end of the conversation. "You've just woken up. Your body must still be recovering. Take care and come to our wedding."
Gavin nodded. "Alright, I won't disturb you any longer. Nancy, I'll be going now."
Nancy raised an eyebrow, ignoring him.
She was already disgusted by his fake demeanor and couldn't wait for him to leave.
After Gavin left, Edward immediately threw the gift he brought into the trash and washed his hands three times in the bathroom.
Then he called Philip. "Disinfect everywhere Gavin was. If he comes again, don't let him inside. Make him sit in the yard. Also, keep an eye on him. Report everything he does and everyone he meets."
"Yes, Mr. Smith." Philip quickly arranged for the disinfection.
Nancy couldn't help but laugh. "You're overreacting."
Edward was serious. "Not at all. Someone with a dirty heart must have a dirty body. You're pregnant now. You need a clean environment."
"Alright," Nancy said, linking her arm with his. "Do you think he's the one who poisoned you?"
"Hard to say. There are too many people who want to harm me. We'll keep watching."
The Smith family seemed peaceful on the surface, but there had been internal strife for a long time. Despite their private battles, they all saw him as the common enemy.
They thought he was weak without parents and underestimated him because Monica favored him.
They had been waiting for him to make a mistake to pull him down from his position as the heir to the Smith Group. So, it wasn't surprising someone would poison him.
Nancy looked at him with concern. "I'll protect you from now on."
"No," Edward said, kissing her lightly on the lips. "I know you're strong, but you're carrying our baby now. Let me protect you both. Promise me you won't act impulsively."
"I promise." Nancy gently touched her flat stomach, feeling a sweet burden.
This pregnancy was different from when she had Juliana. Back then, she didn't know who the father was and was young and anxious.
But this child was a product of her love with Edward, and they both eagerly awaited its arrival.
Thinking of this, she suddenly felt guilty towards Juliana.
"What's wrong?" Edward asked, noticing her change in mood.
"I feel guilty towards Juliana," she said, her nose tingling. "Juliana wasn't a planned child. She was stolen at birth and didn't get much love from you. But this baby will be born into love and anticipation. It's unfair to Juliana."
"Maybe we shouldn't have this baby?"
