Chapter 558 The Fourth Daughter with the Wrong Gender
Chapter 558 The Fourth Daughter with the Wrong Gender
Nancy and Edward exchanged a knowing smile. "Yep."
Hearing that Nancy was planning a wedding, Elsie was more excited than if it were her own. "That's awesome! When's the big day?"
"We're not sure yet," Nancy replied with a sweet smile. "It should be soon. Grandma wants to consult a fortune teller to pick the date, so we should know in a couple of days."
Elsie laughed. "Mrs. Monica Smith is so superstitious. But then again, it's her superstitions that brought you two together. If she hadn't insisted on you marrying Edward to bring him good luck, who knows if you two would be together now."
Everyone laughed, knowing it was true.
Royce suddenly remembered something. "Nancy, you once said that when you and Edward got married, you'd officially acknowledge us as family. Does that still hold?"
Nancy nodded gently. "Of course. Actually, I can do it right now."
Initially, she had hesitated to acknowledge them for several reasons: she wasn't used to having a sudden influx of family, she thought she didn't have long to live and didn't want to be a burden, and she was still under the organization's watchful eye, fearing she might bring them danger.
But now, those issues were gone, and she could fully embrace her family.
With tears in her eyes, she called out to each one, "George, Susan, Royce, Elsie."
These were her family members. Though they hadn't spent much time together, their bond was deep, perhaps even deeper than that of many siblings.
Elsie beamed, "Nancy, we'll always be family."
Nancy smiled, "Yes."
The others were teary-eyed. They had waited for this day for so long. Royce quickly pulled out his phone. "Nancy, I'll add you to the family group chat right now. Say hi to everyone; they'll be thrilled."
"Okay," Nancy agreed reluctantly.
"And Edward," Elsie added, "he's part of the family now too. We should add him to the group. I can't imagine how happy Mom and Dad will be when they hear."
Sure enough, Frank and Mary were overjoyed when they saw Nancy and Edward join the group. When Nancy called them Mom and Dad, Frank was so happy he transferred a large sum of money to her and announced he was giving her 30% of his shares.
Zachary chimed in, "Dad, dear Dad, remember your fourth daughter you always wanted?"
He then posted a picture of a sports car. "How about this car? Doesn't it suit your fourth daughter? Can you buy it for me?"
He followed up with a photo of himself in drag.
Frank responded, "Whoever is the admin, kick this ungrateful child out."
Zachary replied, "No need, I'll leave myself."
And with that, he exited the chat.
Everyone warmly welcomed Nancy and Edward, filling the chat with joy, except for Jeremy, who remained silent.
Edward casually asked, "Royce, is Jeremy not in the group? Or does he not welcome Nancy? If he doesn't want to acknowledge her as his sister, that's fine. But I hope we don't have to see him around, to avoid any unpleasantness."
George quickly intervened, "Jeremy's just been busy. He'll join the chat when he has time. He definitely doesn't mean anything by it."
"Exactly," Elsie added. "Jeremy's in the lab and can't check his phone. He'll speak up later."
It was clear they were covering for Jeremy. Edward snorted, and Nancy, holding his arm, said, "Don't say that. Everyone has times when they can't check their phone."
Royce, feeling awkward, said, "When Jeremy has time, I'll make sure he talks to Nancy. Don't worry, Edward, our family won't let Nancy be mistreated. When your wedding comes, no matter how busy Jeremy is, I'll make sure he's there."
George nodded in agreement. "Absolutely. I promise we'll get him there."
"No need," Edward said coolly. "If the blessing isn't sincere, we don't need it."
Sensing the tension, Nancy quickly changed the subject. "Elsie, let's go look at bridesmaid dresses together sometime. You'll be my bridesmaid this time."
"That... might not be possible," Elsie said, blushing and lowering her head. Royce's face also showed a gentle smile.
Seeing this, Susan and Nancy, with their experience, seemed to understand.
"Elsie, are you pregnant?" Nancy asked.
"Elsie has been very sleepy lately," Susan noted. "When I was pregnant with Freya, I felt the same. Elsie, are you really expecting?"
George was the most excited. "Really?"
"It's true," Royce said, grinning widely.
Elsie nodded shyly. "It's not even three months yet. We were going to tell you later, but I guess the secret's out. I'm sorry, Nancy, I can't be your bridesmaid."
There's an old saying that pregnant women shouldn't be bridesmaids as it could affect the couple's luck. Plus, the first three months of pregnancy are delicate, and being a bridesmaid would be too tiring.
Nancy pinched her nose playfully. "There's nothing to apologize for. It's great news that you're pregnant. I'll find someone else to be my bridesmaid."
"Do you have anyone else in mind?" Elsie asked, knowing Nancy didn't have many friends and worried she might not find a suitable bridesmaid.
"Yes, Edith said she wanted to be a bridesmaid. I'll ask her."
Edward chuckled. "Are you sure you want Edith as your bridesmaid? We're only having one wedding. If anything goes wrong, it could be a lifelong regret."
Nancy reassured him, "Don't worry, she'll be fine."
Since Nancy said so, Edward had no objections. Anyone who dared ruin their wedding would be sent to work in the mines in South Africa.
Soon, Monica set the wedding date, and Edward announced their engagement on the Smith Group's official account. The news shocked everyone.
No one could believe that Nancy, who came from such humble beginnings, was marrying Edward. But the truth was undeniable.
Old classmates somehow got Nancy's number and called to catch up, and parents of former acquaintances called to congratulate her.
In a psychiatric hospital, Gavin looked at the vacant-eyed Aria with a hint of sadness.
"Aria, why did you do this to yourself? He's getting married, you know?"
