Chapter 555 This Child Came at the Right Time

"That's awesome!" Edith was the first to jump up.

Nancy and Edward exchanged a smile, knowing their future would be filled with happiness.

Just then, Chris turned to Edward. "Hey, can we talk alone for a sec?"

Edward nodded. "Sure thing."

The two of them walked to the artificial lake outside. The weather was clear, and the scenery was beautiful.

"This place has a nice view," Edward broke the silence.

"Yeah," Chris said, gazing at the distant landscape. "We picked this spot to live together, planning to stay here forever. But Nancy couldn't stop worrying about her kid, so she went back home."

Edward stayed silent, unsure why Chris was telling him this.

"Edward, before Nancy, Edith and I didn't have names. We were just a series of meaningless numbers."

"So, Edith and I both care a lot about Nancy. You get that, right?"

"Yeah, I get it."

Chris's eyes grew more melancholic. "Nancy is a very emotional person, Edward. Take good care of her, or Edith and I won't let you off the hook."

Edward was taken aback. He hadn't expected Chris to say that.

He quickly composed himself and replied earnestly, "I will. And thank you both for being there for Nancy all these years. She always worries about you, so take care of yourselves too. Don't make her worry."

Chris was stunned. The usually aloof Edward saying something like this was unexpected.

It seemed their feelings for each other were truly deep.

"Alright, we will," Chris said, then changed the subject. "But have you told Nancy everything? You must have some significant connections with the organization, right? Otherwise, you wouldn't have gotten out so easily and obtained the antidote."

"Of course. Nancy isn't naive; she knows everything. But whether to tell you is her decision. If you want the truth, ask her."

"What, the famous Mr. Smith now has to check with his wife before speaking?"

Edward smiled. "Absolutely. Once you're married, you should listen to your wife. From now on, I'm a man who listens to his wife."

They looked at each other and saw sincerity in each other's eyes. At that moment, the two men truly became friends.

"By the way," Edward said, "when we get back, Nancy and I are going to have a wedding. You and Edith should come. Nancy would love for you to witness her happiness."

Chris smiled. "Of course, we'll be there. Nancy even asked me to be the best man."

Edward was shocked. "How come I didn't know about this?"

"Because I haven't agreed yet," Chris said with a bitter smile. "I'm a cripple. How can I be your best man?"

"You are qualified. Even if you have mobility issues, you're handsome and a genius. There will be plenty of girls wanting to meet you at our wedding. You might even find a lifelong partner."

"That's not my goal," Chris said bitterly.

The person in his heart belonged to someone else. He couldn't let anyone else in because that person was worth remembering for a lifetime.

When they returned, Edward went to Nancy's room first, giving the three of them space to talk.

Seeing Chris's hesitant expression, Nancy knew it was time to be honest.

Nancy shared everything that had happened with the organization, including Edward's connection to Glenna. Chris and Edith were stunned.

"Oh my God, Edward is Glenna's son? This is... unbelievable," Edith stammered.

Chris, however, quickly accepted it. "No wonder you came back unscathed and got the antidote. It's all thanks to Edward. I suspected he had ties to the organization but didn't think it was that deep."

Nancy looked at him. "I knew nothing could get past you, Chris. Edith, don't blame Edward. He didn't know about his parents' actions. He even persuaded Glenna to disband the organization. She agreed, so there won't be any more victims. He's done everything he could."

"We're not unreasonable, Nancy. You must be happy. If he ever hurts you, we'll make him regret it."

Edith nodded. "Exactly. The past isn't his fault, but if you're unhappy, it's definitely his fault! If you're ever wronged, you must tell us, okay?"

Nancy smiled and nodded. "I will. And you know I'm not someone who lets herself be wronged."

"Edward said you two will have a wedding when you get back," Chris said.

"A wedding!" Edith stepped forward and hugged Nancy's arm. "Nancy, I want to be at your wedding. Oh, and I want to be a bridesmaid!"

"Alright, you can be a bridesmaid," Nancy said affectionately, gently pushing Edith's hand away from her stomach.

Chris noticed her subtle movement. "Nancy, are you..."

Nancy looked down at her stomach, smiling happily. "Yes, I'm pregnant."

Edith jumped back three feet. "Nancy, you have a baby? Oh my God, when did this happen? Why is your stomach still flat?"

"It happened just before we came here. It's only been a little over a month."

Chris stared at her stomach, and even Edith fell silent. The news was a huge shock. They never thought one of them would get married and have children.

Seeing their silence, Nancy continued, "It's quite a coincidence. This child came at the right time. We managed to escape safely because of him. If I weren't pregnant, Glenna might not have let us go."

After hearing Nancy's story about Glenna, Chris and Edith didn't know what to say.

"Why don't you come back with us?" Nancy suggested. "Settle in Harmony City. We can see each other anytime."

Chris shook his head. "No, I'm used to living here. I don't want to move. Let Edith go with you. She likes lively places."

Edith quickly shook her head. "I'm not going either. The way I dress, people would complain about me back home. It's better here; no one cares how I look."

Nancy smiled helplessly. "Alright, but if you change your mind, let me know anytime."

The next day, Edward and Nancy boarded a plane back home.

Before boarding, Edward had already told Monica everything. So, when they landed, Philip was waiting at the airport to take them straight to the Smith Mansion.

Nancy was a bit nervous, unsure if Monica would accept her.

Monica hated Glenna deeply, and Nancy had once helped Glenna with some bad things. What if Monica thought she was a disgrace?

Edward gently held her hand. "Don't worry, I'm here."

This calmed Nancy a little.

With anxious hearts, they arrived at the Smith Mansion. As soon as they got out of the car, Monica came out to greet them.
