Chapter 554 Was the Girl That Night You?
Nancy looked into his eyes. "Do you really hate that woman that much?"
"Absolutely. When I get back, I'm gonna find out who she really is and then ship her off to South Africa to mine for the rest of her life. She'll never come back!"
Nancy couldn't bear to look him in the eye anymore. "She did give you a child. Do you really have to be so ruthless?"
Edward gritted his teeth. "Letting her live is already my greatest mercy."
"You're terrifying."
Edward suddenly sensed something was off. "Terrifying? Do you know that woman? Why are you defending her?"
"Yeah, I know her. Really well, actually."
"You really know her? Who is she?" Edward grabbed Nancy's shoulders, his voice filled with excitement.
"That woman is me. I'm Juliana's biological mother. So, are you gonna send me to South Africa to mine?"
"What?"
"You heard me right. I'm Juliana's real mom." For some reason, Nancy's eyes started to well up.
Edward felt like he was dreaming. In just a few seconds, his face went through a whirlwind of emotions—from confusion and disbelief to shock and joy, so intense he couldn't even speak.
After what felt like an eternity, he finally regained his ability to talk. "Nancy, you're not joking, right? How could you be Juliana's mother?"
Nancy answered him seriously. "I'm not joking. It's the truth."
"How could this be..." Though still somewhat unwilling to believe it, Edward couldn't contain his joy. He pulled Nancy into a tight embrace.
"So we really are a family. This is wonderful, Nancy. I thought that night was the biggest stain on my life, but now it seems it was my luckiest day."
"Easy there," Nancy said with a happy smile. "It was my luckiest day too, Edward. Turns out we've known each other all along."
Edward released her and cupped her face. "Nancy, was it really you that night?"
Nancy nodded. "It was me."
"This is unbelievable."
"Yeah, it's unbelievable. Even though I always knew we both went to that hotel, I never thought we'd have any connection. If I'd been more imaginative, I might have figured it out sooner."
Edward asked, "You were gone when I woke up, so I didn't know it was you. But what about you? Didn't you see what I looked like?"
Nancy lowered her head in embarrassment. "I was drunk that night and didn't pay attention to who you were. When I woke up the next day, you had your back to me. It was my first time, and I was too scared to look at your face. I just got dressed and left quickly."
At that time, she was in despair from being betrayed by her family and had let herself go. She had always been a good girl, but under the influence of alcohol, she did something so out of character.
The next day, when she sobered up, she wished the whole thing had never happened and didn't care to find out who the man was.
"Alright," Edward said, feeling a bit speechless. "So how did you recognize me? When did you find out?"
"I didn't recognize you. I only recognized Juliana."
Edward felt utterly defeated. He had always known that he ranked lower than their daughter in Nancy's heart, but he hadn't expected that even now, Nancy's eyes were only for their daughter.
So he was just a bonus?
"But Juliana doesn't have a birthmark. How did you recognize her?"
"I got the surveillance footage from the Davis family showing my daughter being taken. The person who took her was Gavin, so I figured he brought Juliana to you. The photos Aria had of Juliana were also given by him."
Edward's face darkened. "Gavin?"
"Yeah, I suspect Gavin orchestrated everything from the start."
"So he knew about our relationship all along and stole Juliana to bring her to me. But why would he do that?"
Nancy sighed. "I don't know. Now Aria's gone mad, and Gavin is in a coma. It seems we'll never know the truth."
But she wouldn't let it go. Even if Aria was insane, she wouldn't let her off the hook.
And Gavin, even if he was in a coma, she would make him pay for his actions.
Edward smiled slightly. "There is a way. Actually, Gavin has already woken up. My people are monitoring him."
"Really? When did this happen?"
"He woke up before we went abroad. But I suspect he woke up much earlier and has been pretending all along."
"Good." Nancy's eyes gleamed with determination.
She had been worried that Gavin wouldn't be able to experience her revenge. Now, Gavin could enjoy it fully.
Edward took her hand. "Nancy, let me handle this. Don't dirty your hands."
"I want to deal with him myself," Nancy said fiercely. "He caused me and Juliana to be separated. If Chris hadn't restored the surveillance footage, I might never have known Juliana was my child."
"Nancy, I don't want you to live in hatred. Let me handle this. You just need to be happy with Juliana, okay?"
Nancy suddenly felt like crying. "So if I ask you to deal with someone, you'll do it?"
"Yes, I'll protect you and Juliana."
Tears fell, and Nancy hurriedly reached to wipe them away, but Edward stopped her hand.
Then he kissed away her tears, and finally kissed the lips he had longed for day and night. His body burned with desire, but he restrained himself and let her go.
"What's wrong?" Nancy looked at him with her tear-filled eyes, confused and dissatisfied with his sudden stop.
Edward's breathing had become rapid. He smiled and pinched her nose. "Did you forget you're pregnant?"
With his reminder, Nancy finally remembered she had a baby in her belly.
"Um... let's sleep." She said, hiding herself under the covers.
This was too embarrassing. Her desire had made her forget she was pregnant. Luckily, Edward remembered.
Edward pulled the covers down and gently held her. "Don't hold it in. In a couple of months, I'll satisfy you."
"Stop talking!"
"Okay, I won't say anymore."
...
They had the most peaceful sleep they'd had in over a month. The next morning, Chris brought good news.
"Nancy, the test results for the medicine you brought back are out. It's indeed the antidote that can completely remove the toxins from our bodies!"
