Chapter 61 Scar Removal Cream
The night wind was biting and cold, with a few stars scattered across the dark sky.
Steven walked out of the hospital and led Rachel straight to the car.
He turned on the heater and handed Rachel some hand warmers he kept in the car. Grasping her icy fingers tightly, he asked, "It's freezing tonight. Where's your coat? And why are you wearing Benjamin's jacket?"
Rachel stared at him steadily.
His tone, his attitude, and his actions all showed his concern and worry for her.
She knew Steven was upset and suspicious about her seemingly close relationship with Benjamin. But his first reaction wasn't to question her; it was to worry about her.
For a fleeting moment, a part of her wanted to forgive him. But she quickly shoved the thought aside.
"Tonight, I wanted to go to Petal Paradise on Evergreen Avenue to buy some orchids. When I passed by Wheelside Haven Parking, I heard a fight. I saw Benjamin fighting with a guy dressed in black who had a weapon. I was scared something would happen, so I called the police."
As for the acid attack, she simply said Benjamin saved her, and his jacket got splashed with acid, so he threw it away.
The more Steven listened, the deeper his frown grew, and his grip on her hand tightened. His voice was filled with strong reproach. "That was acid! How could you risk yourself to save someone?"
"You're pregnant now. What if Benjamin had reacted a bit slower and the acid got on you? What would have happened then? He's a grown man; does he really need you, a woman, to save him?"
Steven said harshly, and his breathing quickened. "I don't care about Benjamin, and he has nothing to do with me. But you and the baby are my life. I can't lose you both!"
His expression was so sincere and earnest.
Rachel was momentarily dazed, as if the gentle, handsome face before her overlapped with the spirited young man from the past.
The young man who loved her dearly, who was always patient and considerate, whose heart was full of her.
But now, it seemed like a fleeting memory, something she couldn't grasp, only watch as it slipped away.
Steven pinched her nose gently, bringing her back to reality. "Honey, why do you keep spacing out lately? Did you hear what I just said? Don't take your life lightly. Is Benjamin really worth risking your life for?"
She smiled slowly. "Okay, I understand. I won't do it again."
"Again?" Steven frowned. "From now on, you need to stay away from Benjamin. Don't have too much contact with him. He's only been in the legal field for a few years. Why do you think he's achieved so much so quickly? I don't deny his abilities, but those same abilities bring him a lot of danger!"
"He's got a long list of enemies, but thanks to the Wright family's power, nobody dares to go after him. He's not an easygoing person. People are unpredictable, and we can't foresee everything. Being close to him isn't good for you."
Rachel didn't seem to care, mulling over his words about unpredictability.
Steven understood this principle.
Rachel looked into his gentle, concerned eyes and suddenly felt a sharp sense of irony.
She averted her gaze and replied softly, "It was just a coincidence. Just like you and Nancy, right?"
Steven paused, then smiled helplessly. "Still jealous? I'll keep my distance from her too, okay?"
Rachel huffed, "That's more like it. I'm tired. Let's go home."
The night scenery outside the car window was dazzling, but the lights that flickered into her calm, indifferent eyes couldn't stir any emotion.
Rachel's injuries weren't severe. After resting at home for two days, the pain in her legs subsided, and she planned to return to work.
But Steven insisted she rest for two more days before allowing her to go out.
The day she went to Stargaze Gallery, Dawnlight City welcomed its first snowfall of the winter, with snowflakes swirling down from the sky.
Rachel paused in the courtyard for a moment before stepping into the car.
When she arrived at Stargaze Gallery, Carol greeted her. "Ms. Davis, a Mr. Fields dropped this off about ten minutes ago. He said it was for you."
Rachel stopped in her tracks, puzzled, and opened the bag. Inside was a small jar of scar removal cream.
Fields?
If she remembered correctly, Benjamin's assistant's last name was Fields.
Could Benjamin have sent this?
Before she could think more about it, her phone chimed with a text message.
