Chapter 60 Then Is She Pregnant Too?

Chapter 60 Then Is She Pregnant Too?

Rachel's outburst in the emergency room turned heads. People started looking between Steven and Nancy, some even with judgmental glares.

Even though the hospital wasn't a place for the high society, it was still a public area. If things escalated and someone recorded a video and posted it online, Steven's identity could easily be exposed.

After weighing his options, Steven took her hand and pleaded softly, "Sweetheart, we're in a hospital. People need peace and quiet here. Let's go home first. I'll explain everything there, okay?"

Rachel was relentless, "Then hurry up and explain, don't waste everyone's time."

Steven saw her serious yet angry face and had already come up with a plan. He sighed, "She called me, sounding confused and calling your name, asking you to come to the hospital. I was worried something had happened. You're pregnant, and I didn't want to alarm you, so I came to check on her."

Benjamin, who was sitting on the hospital bed applying medicine, raised his eyebrows slightly, his gaze falling on Rachel's thin and frail back.

Rachel was taken aback.

He really had a knack for coming up with excuses.

She masked her complex emotions, showing just the right amount of sadness and doubt.

The sadness was genuine, and the doubt was fake.

The mix made it impossible for anyone to see through her.

Nancy, with hollow and disappointed eyes, looked at Steven, who was full of concern for Rachel. Her heart felt as if it was being tightly squeezed, causing her to breathe more lightly.

She had no choice but to help him cover up.

When Rachel looked over, Nancy forced a smile, "I was surprised to see him too. I was so dizzy after I fainted, I couldn't see clearly. I must have accidentally clicked on his contact instead of yours since they're close together in my phone."

Her voice remained soft and weak, "After he helped me with the medical fees, I asked him to inform you. Didn't he send you a message?"

Great performance.

Such perfect coordination.

Rachel suppressed the bitterness and slowly shifted her gaze to Steven.

Steven continued, "After I arrived, I helped her with the medicine. I was planning to tell you, but I didn't want you to rush here and possibly have an accident."

His voice was gentle, "That's all there is to it, don't be mad, honey."

Rachel felt numb all over, but deep inside, the bitterness and sorrow almost overwhelmed her.

She turned away, pretending to scoff, quickly suppressing the painful emotions, "You better not be lying to me."

Steven gave a helpless smile and whispered, "How could I lie to you? I swear, every word I've said to you is true. If I lie, may I live a lonely life forever."

Rachel's eyes reflected his gentle and handsome face.

Lonely forever?

That was not enough.

Those who betray true love should meet a tragic end.

Just as she was about to speak, Nancy, unable to bear the brief moment of warmth between them, interrupted.

"Rachel, I'm really grateful to Steven today. I wouldn't have known what to do without him. I'm sorry. Please don't be mad at him."

Rachel gathered her thoughts, turning to Nancy with a cold tone, "Where's your boyfriend? Isn't he in your contact list?"

Nancy's expression froze for a moment, "He... he is. But I was so dizzy, I couldn't see clearly, and you were the first person I thought of."

She sighed, looking fragile, pressing her fingers lightly against her temples, "Besides, he went to another city for a business trip yesterday afternoon. He won't be back for a few days. Even if I call him now, he can't come. Every time I need him, he's not around. I don't even know if being with him is right."

"That means he doesn't care about you. Give me his contact, I'll call and give him a piece of my mind."

Nancy's eyes widened in panic. "You're pregnant, Rachel. This isn't worth getting worked up over. I'll call him myself once my headache clears up."

Desperate to change the subject, Nancy quickly asked, "Why are you and Mr. Wright here together? Did something happen?"

Steven's gentle expression hardened as he glanced at Benjamin, who was applying medicine, and then at Rachel's black coat.

No need to guess whose coat that was.

His brows furrowed slightly, waiting for Rachel's explanation.

Nancy's attempt to stir trouble was obvious.

Rachel noticed Steven's dark mood but didn't need to explain in front of Nancy. She decided to play on Steven's concern, "We had an incident tonight, and Mr. Wright and I got hurt."

"Hurt?"

Steven's expression instantly turned worried, the gloom in his eyes replaced by concern. He seized her arm, noticing the injury on her ankle.

His breath hitched, and he said anxiously, "What happened? Your leg is badly hurt. What about the baby?"

Rachel lowered her voice, "Keep it down, it's fine. Don't worry."

Steven frowned, ready to take her to the obstetrics department, "No, we need to get you checked."

Rachel felt nervous, unprepared to have a check-up with him at the hospital.

She quickly held him back, speaking softly, "I've already been checked. The doctor said everything's fine, that's why I came to treat my injuries."

Steven insisted, "Let me see the report."

Rachel hesitated, her eyes showing a trace of anxiety, her mind racing for a suitable excuse.

The silence stretched for a while before Benjamin broke it, "Didn't have time to print it out. I asked someone to do the check."

His tone was indifferent, almost casual, especially the last sentence, light as a feather.

It landed on Rachel's heart, stirring ripples.

Rachel paused, sensing something unusual.

Did Benjamin figure out her fake pregnancy?

She glanced at him briefly, quickly looking away. Whether he knew or not didn't matter, as long as Steven remained unaware.

With the situation diffused, she didn't give Steven a chance to ask further, calmly handing the coat back to Benjamin, "Thank you."

Benjamin took it, feeling the warmth from where she had worn it.

It seeped into his cold palms, reviving his almost frozen blood.

He simply nodded, "I need to go to the police station. I'll be off."

"Okay."

Watching Benjamin leave, Steven's displeasure was evident.

But he quickly suppressed it, his lips pressed together, turning to Rachel, seeing her exhaustion, the concern replacing his irritation.

He draped the coat over her, speaking softly, "Let's go home."

"Okay."

Rachel nodded lightly, catching a glimpse of Nancy's fleeting resentment and hatred. She touched her abdomen, "Nancy, I'm a bit tired and can't stay with you. Take care and call a nurse if you need anything."

Nancy looked at Steven with tearful eyes.

But Steven was carefully supporting Rachel, not even glancing at Nancy, leaving without a backward look.

Nancy clenched her fists, biting her back teeth hard.

If Rachel hadn't shown up and played her pregnancy card, Steven would have come back to her.

Did he really like children that much? Just hearing it might affect the baby made him disregard Rachel and Benjamin's closeness.

Like children?

Nancy hid her venomous thoughts, her uninjured hand instinctively touching her abdomen.

What if she got pregnant?

Would Steven treat her as he did Rachel?
