Chapter 81 Chapter 81

Chapter 81 Chapter 81
Elisa’s POV

I had been having the same dream over and over again. It was so bad that I became scared of closing my eyes to sleep. I kept seeing Drake dying again and again. I had not told him or anyone yet. He would worry, and not for himself, but for me.

The dream started the day the Lycan came through the void to deliver that horrible message.

“Elisa, are you okay?” Angy said.

I had paused mid-bite. My sandwich was halfway to my mouth. I looked down at it, dropped it onto my plate, and rubbed my hands together.

“I am fine. Just a lot to think about, you know, with the war coming.”

“Everyone is on edge because of it,” she said as she sat down and dug into her own sandwich. “We are training hard. I know it won’t go to waste. All that effort, I mean.”

“Yeah.”

I hoped she was right.

Apart from the training Hank was putting us through, I had decided to train on my own too. The dream felt more like a premonition, and I would do anything in my power to make sure it never came true.

“Angy, hi… can we talk?” someone said behind me.

Angy and I turned around. It was Nathan.

Angy froze.

“Oh… hi Elisa. Umm… how have you been?”

“Fine… congrats, I heard.”

“Thanks.”

Then he turned back to Angy, who was now staring down at her plate.

“Angy?” he said softly. “Please.”

She nodded, gave me a quick glance, and followed him.

I hoped that went well. More than anything, I hoped Angy would find her mate soon so all the awkwardness between them would finally stop.

I continued eating in silence when Mark walked up to me.

“Hey, you seen Drake?”

“He went out to pick up some people who helped us out in Egypt.”

“Hey… thank you.”

“For?”

“My brother. He is different now. Good different. We almost thought we would never find you. Almost thought Drake would never be himself again.”

“I am glad I found him too.”

Then the door opened, and Drake walked in with some werewolves. They were covered from head to toe, even their faces. Everyone in the room watched them curiously.

I looked at one of them and recognized her immediately.

Sabrina.

They could not reveal themselves yet because they were rogues.

I stood up and walked toward Drake, with Mark right behind me.

“Hey,” I said as I hugged him tightly.

He looked down at me carefully.

“Are you okay?”

“Yeah. I am fine,” I replied, avoiding his eyes.

I could feel him through the mind link, trying to check what was wrong, but I blocked him off.

“Drake… don’t.”

“Sorry… okay. But promise me we will talk about this later?”

I knew he would not let it go.

“I promise.”

“Come on. Let’s go in together. I know you want to hear about those back in Egypt.”

“Yes. Thank you.”

Mark had already led them to his father’s office. When we entered, the tension in the room was almost suffocating. The Alphas and the rogues were glaring at each other.

“I told you this would be difficult,” Hank said from the entrance of the office, his arms folded.

“They are not tearing into each other right now because your father prepared the minds of the Alphas beforehand. But this is still fragile. One wrong move and this peace shatters.”

“Can we please settle down?” Alfred said.

“I still don’t agree with this, Alfred,” one of the Alphas snapped. “Rogues?” he spat with disgust. “We cannot be this desperate.”

“In fact, we are that desperate,” Drake said as he stepped between them. “We need each other right now. Anyone willing to fight is welcome, and we will need your help convincing your pack members to accept them.”

“You are asking for the impossible. The only reason I am standing here watching these rogues instead of ending them right now is because I am looking at the bigger picture. But most of my pack members would not. Some of them have suffered great losses because of rogues,” another Alpha said.

“I—”

“We are different,” Sabrina said, cutting Drake off. “We are different. We don’t hurt humans or wolves. We became rogues because it was the only way we could survive. Please… can any of you look around and see someone here who harmed a member of your pack?”

She said as the rest of her warriors removed the coverings from their faces.

I watched the Alphas stare at them, sizing them up silently.

No one spoke for a full minute.

“Nobody here is an enemy,” Drake’s father finally said, breaking the silence. “We will fight as one. The witches and vampires have informed Councilman Hank that they will be joining us too. The fate of the world rests on all of us.”

Then he looked toward Hank.

“Hank has something to say. I suggest everyone leaves their issues at the door. You can revisit them after the war for all I care. Just don’t do it in my territory.”

“Hank?”

“Alphas and rogues,” Hank began. “We are dealing with Lycans who have been locked inside that void for one hundred years. The council went through the archives and discovered that the Lycan King cursed by the witch is still alive. Him and his entire kingdom were imprisoned in that void.”

Then Hank looked directly at me.

“The one who locked them away was the Unseelie Queen. According to the records, she did it because of a prophecy.”

My chest tightened.

“‘The first daughter born from the first daughter of his bloodline would end his reign.’”

My breath caught.

“Elisa, he wanted you killed. Your mother stopped that from happening. She saved your life.”

My eyes widened.

“What?” I whispered, taking a step back.

“When your mother died, the magic sealing the void broke. Now your father wants his kingdom back. You and Drake are a threat to achieving that.”
