Chapter 98 Chapter 98
Jess’s POV
I was pissed off that people were still on edge with me. I don’t look into other people’s minds unless I have to. It’s not something that I get a kick out of doing.
“In a couple of minutes. I want you all on stage with me, as you where there. I have put chairs up there for you”
“Yes sir” I took Kieran’s hand, and we all walked up the steps to the stage and took our seats. I plonked myself in the middle as I was feeling upset from the other people not wanting to talk to me. I wanted my friends near me as I knew that they liked me. I know it’s childish but hey. Kieran as usual could tell that I was upset so he took my hand. Hayley was on the other side of me, so she took my other hand. I smiled at them both. I looked on either side of me and everyone was holding another person’s hand. It made me feel like we were making a united front. As all of us where different, but together we could take on anything.
John came up the steps and stood at the front of the stage “If I can have your attention, please” He waited until everyone had taken a seat. “I would like to call this meeting to order. As you are all aware the aliens tried to take the women of Christchurch a couple of days ago. Did anything odd occur in any other parts of the country while this was happening here?”
A short dumpy man stood up. I did not even have to look in to his mind to know that he was a desk boy. “I am not sure about anyone else but nothing odd happened in Auckland”
A tall thin lady stood up then “I agree nothing odd happened at all in Wellington”
“So, nothing showed up as entering the hemisphere?” John asked
“We saw a slight flicker at about 10am on the morning of the attack, but it was gone in a miller second. We just thought that it must have been a satellite” I man replied. He was of solid build with a shaved head.
I stood up as I was getting frustrated “So you are all saying that no other part of the country noticed that we were under attack?” I ask with a hint of sarcasm in my voice. Everyone looked up at me. But not one person answered me. “Was everyone not aware that the aliens were going to return?” I was getting more and more pissed off. This time I got a reaction.
“My name is Jeremy. I think that people are trying to cover up for their fuck ups. Excuse my language. I told my boss about a month ago about some strange activity. Something kept flicking on the screen and then flicking out again. To me it looked like something was trying out our borders to see how good our security was and if we would attack or at least go and look”
“And what did your boss do?” I asked
“Nothing. My boss told me that I was just been paranoid and that it would have been a satellite”
“Thank you, Jeremy,” John cut in “I will talk to your boss’s and superiors, I think that it will be safe to say that you will be getting your boss’s job”
Jeremy sat back down with red cheeks. I was glad that John was going to do something about Jeremy’s boss.
“Right so now that we know that there was activity prior to the aliens landing we all need to be on our full guard to stop them attacking again. We have no idea if they are going to attack the Canterbury region again or somewhere else. I want to discuss a battle plan. It’s us or them”
The meeting fell in to order as everyone discussed what action should be taken. After an hour of heated debate everyone finally agreed on the action to be taken. I was getting hungry by this point, and I was looking forward to getting to the restaurant. John thanked and dismissed everyone while the elite team (my friends and I) sat waiting for them all to leave. Finally, after about half an hour the warehouse was empty apart from us.
“Finally, I was starting to think that they would never leave. I am so hungry that I could eat a horse” I moaned “So come on chop chop take me to eat people”
“Come on then let’s feed you my daring” Kieran took my hand and led me out of the warehouse. “Ok now we are going to leave the Kombi here for the night”
“Ok but how are we all going to get home?”
“That is all sorted so you do not have to worry about a thing. Just relax and have fun” Kieran led me to a tinted out back van. He opened the door for me and I climbed in. The others followed behind me. Kieran climbed into the passenger seat next to John.
“Come on guys what’s going on?” Romeo was wagging his tail by my feet. This put me slightly at ease because if something bad was going to happen he would warn me.
“It’s a surprise Jess so stop asking. All you have to do it relax and have fun like I have already told you. God John, you told me that she was a good pupil and a quick learner”
“Ha ha Kieran you are such a hoot” I snapped I was over not knowing what was going on. Also, all of the talk about the war had got me in to fight mode.
“Relax Jess. God you’re so fiery. I am starting to feel sorry for the aliens. I hope that we don’t catch any”
“Why? We want to either kill or catch all of them. We do not want any to get away”
“But I could see you wanting to torture them when we catch them”
“No, I would want answers. Then I would kill them quickly. I would not give them chance to leave and then plan another attack that’s for sure”
“See Kieran this is why Jess is one of my best workers. She knows what has to be done and she goes ahead and does it” John smiled at me in the rear vision mirror.
“Yeah, I have a feeling that someday soon I am going to be calling her boss”
“Damn right you will be” I reached over the seat and gave Kieran a hug “But its ok I will still love you and I might even give you special treatment”
“Hey, talk like that and you won’t get promoted. We do not offer special treatment here”
“Calm down John. I did not say he would like the special treatment”
