Jess’s POV
My mouth started watering at the thought of it. That sounded a lot better than toast or cereal. I was too busy dreaming about French toast to notice that everyone had answered Hayley apart from me. Everyone was looking at me. “Shit sorry. Yes, that sounds really really good. I cannot wait”
Hayley smiled and shook her head at me as she walked into the kitchen to start on breakfast.
“Do you think she will want any help?” I asked
“From what I have heard, not from you. I will go and see if she wants a hand” Oscar dodged a jab from me as he went to join Hayley in the kitchen.
“I am not that bad at cooking. You guys are just mean” I stuck my bottom lip out to give me more effect.
“We are just teasing. You make it so easy” Kieran reached over and held my hand
“And you are really good at making coffee. This is great” Amber replied from across the table.
“Gee thanks. All I had to do was add the coffee to the plunger and add hot water”
“Yeah, but you added the right amount of coffee. You will be surprised how many people cannot get that right”
“Ok if you say so” I was sulking now
“Jess, you don’t have to be good at everything you do”
“Yeah, but what kind of wife am I going to be to you if I cannot even cook?”
“Well, I can cook and you can protect me. We all know that if someone broke in you would be able to fend them off better than me”
I had to smile then. Kieran was right. I am a good fighter and an even better shooter. “Ok fine. You can be the wife, and I will be the husband” I gave him a light punch in the arm.
“You are lucky I love you as I would not let many people get away with saying that to me”
“I think that I might ring John and let him know that we are all here now and see if he wants to bring this meeting forward, as the sooner we start preparing the better prepared we will be when the aliens return”
“That’s a good idea. Don’t be long though as breakfast will be ready soon”
“I won’t” I pushed my chair away from the table and went to use the phone in the bedroom. I closed the bedroom door behind me and went to sit on the edge of the bed to call him. He answered on the second ring.
“Hey Jess, how’s it going? Are you enjoying having a house full of people”
“I would not say full of people really, would you?”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, I have 2 vampires, 2 witches, a werewolf and a shape shifter. I am the only human, and I am not sure that I can even be classed as fully human”
“He told you then?”
“Yeah, we were playing drinking games, and I got dared to look in everyone’s mind and tell their dirty little secret”
“Shit Jess. That was no way for you to find out”
“Yeah, I agree with you there. But anyway, I was ringing to let you know that everyone has arrived. If you want to have the meeting earlier, we can get there”
“Wow that’s great, can you make it for this afternoon?”
“Sure, what time?”
“Say 1500 hours? We can have the meeting and then go out for tea. The humans all seem to be back now and trying to get back into a routine”
“Sweet we will see you at the warehouse at 1500 hours then”
“Ok and Jess I am sorry that you had to find out about Kieran the way you did”
“Yeah, it was creepy when he turned into me”
“He did what? That’s not cool. Do you want me to have a word with him?”
“Na its fine. I am sure that I will get used to the whole thing. I will just need a bit of time to process it all”
“You will be fine. You’re a tough girl”
“Thank you, Sir. I will see you at 1500 hours” I hung up the phone and sat on the bed for a bit. John was right I was tough I could cope with Kieran been a shape shifter. He was still the Kieran that I loved, just with an extra ability. I got up off the bed and walked back to the dining room. I had perfect timing at Hayley was just coming out with our breakfast. I took my seat and waited for Hayley to give me my breakfast.
“So, Jess what did the boss have to say?” Kieran looked worried
“He asked us to meet him at the warehouse at 1500 hours today”
“Ok cool did you tell him that I um told you?”
“Yes, it came up. Relax, he is not going to say anything to you” Hayley put my breakfast in front of me, and I smiled up at her. I let Kieran tell the others that we were meeting john today and I focused on eating my breakfast. Hayley had made too much bacon, so Romeo was happy as he got all the left overs.
“So, what are we going to do until we meet up with John?” Amber looked bored already
“Well, you guys can do whatever you want. I am going to go and have a run and then a swim when I get back. If we are going to be fighting aliens, I need to make sure that I stay in shape” I finished my food and got up from the table
“Do you mind if I come for a run with you?” Kieran gave me a look like he was expecting me to say no.
“Of course you can come for a run with me. Just try to keep up ay”
“I am sure I can manage”
“Stuff that I might go for a swim though if that’s ok?”
“Amber, I just told you that you can do what you want so yes you can go for a swim. I have got a spa out there now too”
“I am having a spa then” Hayley ran away from the table.
“Have fun guys” I walked to my room to throw on some shorts and a t-shirt. Kieran followed behind me and also put on some shorts and a t-shirt. Romeo was sitting at my side wagging his tail.
