Jess’s POV
Kieran started laughing as he walked out of the door calling for Romeo. After he was gone, I turned back to Nick.
“I hope that you had not been waiting long. The girls and Kieran decided that I did not have any food so made me go shopping”
“Its fine I had only been waiting about ten minutes. Thank you for letting me come and stay. You have a really nice house here”
“It’s no problem at all. I am actually excited about it. I have been here on my own for so long now that it will be nice to have some company for a while”
“I think that you will have company for more than just a while. Did you not ask Kieran to come and move in with you?” There was Amber been blunt and to the point again.
“Well, he did ask me to marry him. Any way it’s my house so if I want to ask him to move in I can”
“Hey, wait a sec. Christina told me that the reason that I had not met you was because Kieran had left you and broke your heart”
Amber started laughing at Nick’s comment. It was just like something that she would have said “Yeah, he did break her heart but then when we were setting out to save the world he turned up. It so happens that he was following orders to stay away from Jess so that he did not get in the way of her training”
“Really that is pretty harsh. I don’t think that I could ever stay away from Christina. It would hurt too much”
“Yeah, but sometimes you need to go through pain if it will help you grow”
“Did it help you grow though?”
“Yeah, it did. I was mad at Kieran so I pushed myself harder so that I could beat his scores. I wanted to be the best I could to prove to him that I did not need him. I would not have pushed myself as hard if he had been here”
“Fair enough. As long as you are together in the end that the main thing ay”
“Exactly” I decided that I liked Nick. He was a lot like Hayley. Maybe that was why she did not like him. No, I decided she had been brought up to hate werewolves. This was going to be something that she would have to get over though if we were all going to be living under the same roof as well as working together. Just then Christina and Hayley walked back into the room. I felt Nick tense. No doubt he was expecting her to attack him.
“Hi Nick. I’m Hayley” She did not sound cheerful, but she was being polite what was a start.
“Hi” Nick looked nervous as hell. I do not think that he had been this close to a vampire before.
I decided to break the tension since it was my house I suppose that I had to be in control “So who is cooking us all some dinner then?”
“I will if you like” Kieran was standing in the door with Romeo sat at him feet.
“That would be great. Thank you. Do you want me to come and help?”
Kieran started laughing at me “No Jess its fine. I do think that you should offer our guests a drink though”
“Our guests?”
“Well yeah last time I checked you had invited me to move in. That makes this our place. So, if we have guests staying then that makes them our guests”
“Fine point taken, go cook”
“Yes boss” Kieran pulled of a perfect military turn and marched off to the kitchen.
I turned around “Ok so who wants what to drink?”
Hayley was sat on the floor with her back against the wall “I will have a sparkling wine please”
“Man, that sounds so good me too” Amber was curled up in a ball in one of my chairs
“Yeah, I am with them on the wine please’ Christina was snuggled right up to Nick on the couch.
“What about you Nick?” I asked
“What do you have? Apart from wine”
“Well, we just emptied a bottle store. So, I am sure that we have whatever you want”
“Do you have any Jack and coke?”
‘Yes, we do. Do you want a pre-mix or for me to make you one?”
“Wow you are prepared. A premix is fine. Thank you”
“Sure thing” I walked into the kitchen and the smell hit me straight away. I had not thought I was that hungry until I smelt it cooking. My mouth started to water. I walked over to Kieran and tried to look over his shoulder. He spun around and stopped me by putting his hands on my shoulders.
“There is no peeking Little Miss”
“Damn you. How long until its ready?”
“Not long ten minutes max. So, after you have handed out the drinks can you please set the table?”
“Sure” I reached over and grabbed some wine glasses and a bottle of wine. I walked back out to the lounge and went to the dining room I set the wine glassed on the table and set the place mats. I was glad that John had put a 10-person dining room table in here. When I first saw it, I thought he was crazy but now I realised that I need it. I put the bottle of wine in the middle of the table and went back to the lounge. “Hey, you guys might want to get seated at the table as the food will be getting served soon. Can one of you girls please pour the wine? I will grab another bottle” I walked back into the kitchen and Kieran was dishing out the dinner. He had made nachos. No wonder it had not taken him long to make it. I grabbed another bottle of wine and the Jack and coke for Nick. “What do you want to drink?”
“Just a beer will be fine to start with. It’s ok though I will grab that myself. When you have taken that out do you want to come back and help me with the plates?”
“Sure, I will. I’ll be back in a sec” When I walked back into the lounge the others had set themselves around the table. I put Nicks drink down in front of him.
