Jess’s POV
“Have a good day at school and I will pick you up after” He leaned over and picked up my backpack from the car “By the way you look hot in that school uniform” He winked at me as he walked back around to the driver’s side of the car. I watched him drive away before I risked looking around me. Everyone was staring at me as I kmew they would be. I saw my friends and walked as quickly as I could to them without looking like I was running.
“Wow nice ride” Hayley commented while trying not to laugh at my awkwardness
“Yeah, but the driver was even nicer. He was mighty fine, and I would not mind if he had an identical twin that you want to set me up with” Amber mused
“Can we please go inside everyone is looking at me and I feel extremely uncomfortable”
“That’s because you are used to living in the shadows my sweet little thing. I admit that great things live in the shadows, but you can no longer hide there. Not if you are going to start getting driven around by that guy, in that car anyway” Hayley cocked her head to one side as she spoke.
“What so now that I am dating a guy who happens to drive a cool car I have to stand out?”
“That’s the way the cookie crumbles. I am sure that you will get used to it in time” Hayley Grabbed my hand as she spoke “Now we need to get to class, or we will all get a lot more attention that we don’t want”
School seemed to last forever. I was glad to have my friends back though, they helped me deal with everyone who came up to me wanting to know who the guy was who drove the cool corvette. As soon as school was over, I ran to the front gate I had missed Kieran so much. I saw his corvette straight away and did not care if I looked desperate, I ran straight to it. Kieran got out of the car to open my door for me. He opened his arms, and I ran right into them.
“I missed you so much” I mumbled into his chest.
“Oh, my sweet little darling I missed you too. But we need to get you to work and when we are there, we have to be professional. I am your mentor there not your boyfriend”
“Okay, but that means that I am going to have to get my kiss now then and you will have to hold my hand until we get there. Do we have a deal?”
“How can I say no to you when you drive me so crazy? Come on we have to get to work you don’t want to be late on your first day” Kieran grabbed me then and leaned me over the bonnet of the car and kissed me so hard and passionately that I thought he was going to lift up my skirt that was short any way and have me there and then in front of the school with everyone watching, but then he cooled down and set me back in my feet and opened the passenger door for me. “Will that keep you going until after work?” he shut the door before I had time to answer him. He did as he promised and held my hand all the way to the warehouse.
Special agent Grahams was waiting at the door for us when we arrived.
“Jess how are you? Did you have a good day at school?”
“Yes, sir it was not too bad” I stood taller and straighter as I talked to him.
“Ok tonight I am going to get Agent Storm to show you around the building and tell you what we do here” he turned to Kieran “I want you to show her everything introduce her to everything. Understood solder?”
“Yes, sir I will get to it right away sir”
“Follow me Jess” He started walking further down the hallway. “We will start right at this end and then make our way back towards the entrance and then when we are done you can go leave for the night and I will take you home”
“Ok but isn’t the alien down this way?”
“Yes, I have been given orders that you need to see it first so that we can see if you can find out what it wants” We carried on walking until we got to the final door where the Alien was kept.
“Okay are you ready for this?”
“As ready as any sane person can be a guess” I mumble. In truth I was scared shitless.
Kieran opened the door and stepped aside to let me enter first. I slowly walked in and looked around the room. The room was divided by a wall of glass. The alien was on the far side of the glass watching me as I entered. There were two chairs set out in front of the glass I choose one and sat down. Kieran followed my lead and sat down in the other.
“Can it talk?” I asked Kieran
“Yes, I can talk. I saw you once when they were trying to operate on me to find out about me. You were looking through the window”
“You saw me then?”
“Yes, I did my child. I liked you. You’re different from the rest of the humans here”
“Different how?”
“You showed compassion on your face”
“How could I not you had a group of people around you, you looked so scared”
“Well yes I was”
“Just wait a second, we have tried to talk to you many times and you have not said one word to us”
“That is because agent Storm none of you talked to me like you wanted to talk. You just demanded things from me. I am sorry but being treated like that made me not want to cooperate with your team”
Kieran glared at the alien I looked at him and felt fear. He looked nothing like the man I was falling in love with, he looked more like agent Yates and that scared me.
