Chapter 69 Escape

Aria's POV

Lately, the doc had been dropping by every day to check on me.

He said my baby was doing great, but I was too weak. I gotta rest up, or my weakness could mess with the baby's health, and that was the last thing I wanted.

Sure, I was about to use this baby to get Draco to do what I want, but this kid was also my only family. I gotta make sure he was healthy.

So, I was stuck here for a bit, getting better, making sure I was in top shape for my baby.

Lucien hadn't shown up for two weeks. He had the maid tell me he was busy with some big vampire clan stuff.

What a feeble excuse!  I knew he was avoiding me and the baby. Fine by me. His absence afforded me the perfect opportunity to plan my escape.

From what I had seen, there were eight people in this villa: the maid who looked after me, a chef, two guards at the entrance, and four guards patrolling.

Among these eight individuals, the chef posed no threat. He scarcely ever left the kitchen, even sleeping on a small bed in the corner of the room.

The maid was easy to get rid of; she was always running around doing stuff for me. I could send her away when I was ready to make a break for it.

The two guards at the entrance slept in the trees during the day and kept watch at night.

The four patrolling guards slacked off in the garden during the day, especially around noon.

So, I just needed to wait for noon, sent the maid away, and sneaked out the front.

Of course, the linchpin of my escape plan lay in my newly discovered ability—upon transforming into a wolf, I was able to walk normally, so escaping should be a breeze.

But where do I go after I get out?

Draco was my best bet for revenge, but thinking about him and Serena together made my heart hurt.

The three guys I wanted to use for revenge all turned on me. I push down the weird feeling in my chest.

Even if Draco was with Serena now, I had to find him. He was my last hope.

He desperately wanted an heir, and since I was already pregnant, he would help me take down Jason, Harper, and Colton.

After that, I would leave with my baby. No matter who the father was, he would be mine. We would go somewhere far away, where no one could find us, and lived in peace.

Another week went by.

The doc said I was doing a lot better, and as long as I didn't get hurt again, I would be able to keep the baby.

So, there was no reason for me to stay in this villa any longer.

I picked the brightest midday sun and told the maid I needed to do laundry, sending her away. Then, I quickly transformed into a wolf and bolted from the villa.

Once I was out, I followed a hidden path straight to the border between the vampires and the dragons.

But it seemed like I picked the wrong spot; it wasn't exactly peaceful here.

“Damn it! Whose bright idea was it to send us out looking for the Dragon Ball in this heat? In this godforsaken place, how could there possibly be a Dragon Ball?”a rough, irritated voice grumbled nearby.

I ducked into the bushes, keeping an eye on the surroundings.

Another voice chimed in, “Quit whining. If Draco says there's a Dragon Ball here, then there is. He never lies.”

“It's too hot. I'm done searching. I need a break.” The rough guy plopped down on a rock. “Draco's a lousy king. Why do you bust your ass for him? We should join Michael Brown. He pledged that if we were to align ourselves with him, he would bestow upon us greater wealth and power."

The other guy sat down too, looking around nervously.“Keep it down. Draco's nearby.”

The rough voice dropped a bit, “What are you scared of? Think about my suggestion.”

Listening to their chat, I carefully backed away.

These two dragon clan members didn't seem like regular soldiers; they seemed more like minor leaders. I wondered if Draco knew they were planning to betray him.

Suddenly, I heard a branch snap under my foot!

“Who's there? Come out!” The rough guy jumped up and headed my way.

This was bad; they definitely didn't want their conversation getting out! If they found me, they'd kill me for sure! But I couldn't move now; any movement would give me away.

As the rough guy got closer, I was about to turn and run when a large hand clamped over my mouth and dragged me away!

We didn't stop until we were hidden behind a huge tree.

“Draco! What are you doing here?” I asked, shocked.

Draco put a finger to his lips, signaling me to stay quiet.

The two men searched around, cursed when they couldn't find me, and left.

“Why are you here?” Draco looked me over and then asked, “Why did you transform into a wolf?”

I gave a bitter smile; I couldn't bring myself to reveal that, as a human, I had become a cripple; I was betrayed by both Noah and Lucien, and had left home in a fit of rage, only to end up here.

“It's a long story. I'll explain later.” I brushed it off and quickly changed the subject.“By the way, did you sense the Dragon Ball aura here?”

Draco nodded, looked around again, and after making sure no one was nearby, explained briefly, “According to Elysia, as the heir to the dragon throne, I can sense the Dragon Ball's whereabouts, so I've been trying.”

Looking a bit tired, he continued,“There was no progress before, but today I suddenly sensed a peculiar energy fluctuation nearby. I'm not sure if it's the Dragon Ball.”

If the Dragon Ball was really nearby, I might have a chance to find it too.

“Aria, I…” Draco started to say something but stopped.

“What did you say?” I asked.

Draco gave a bitter smile and shook his head. “Nothing. Where are you headed? I'll take you.”
