Chapter 16
That day, Christian and I moved our stuff into our respective rooms. Me with Jackson, and Christian on the other side of the pack house. As Jackson gave us a tour, everyone we passed bowed to Jackson in respect to their future Alpha, and each time they did Christian rolled his eyes in annoyance.
“What is your problem?” I asked him after the twentieth eye roll.
“You know how much I hate how Alpha’s feel like they’re entitled to respect. You should have to earn it and not have it be blindly handed to you.” He responded quietly whilst Jackson talked briefly to a pack member.
“Did it ever occur to you that he has earned it? Or are you just looking for more reasons to be upset with him?”
“Whatever.” Was his only reply.
“Sorry about that, now where were we?” Jackson asks as the pack member leaves.
“You were showing us to the pack’s training grounds.” I replied ignoring Christian and his unnecessary attitude.
“Ah right. Follow me, it’s right this way.”
After that we had no more interruptions. And later that night after we dropped Christian off at his room, Alpha John called Jackson and I to his office. As we walked up to the large office doors, I couldn’t help but wonder what happened that he was calling us. Was there another attack at our old pack like what happened with Christian? Did the culprit follow us? Is the culprit now attacking people here? Were rogues spotted in the territory?
“Dad? It’s us. Permission to enter?”
“Obviously.” Alpha John responded and I could practically hear the eye roll in his voice.
We quickly opened the doors and entered the room, so as to not piss him off. And we were met with the sight of a young man that looked to be around our age, tied to a chair and thrashing about basically foaming at the mouth.
“Dad what’s going on?” Jackson asked, while cautiously approaching them, and making sure I was behind him if things were to go south.
“This boy was found stalking around the pack house with a knife laced with wolfsbane.” The Alpha snarled out.
“Did he say what he wanted? Who he was looking for?”
“That’s why we called you and Leana. Ever since we captured him he’s been spouting out nonsense about him being Leana’s true mate, and that if he couldn’t have her he’d make sure no one could.”
“What!?” Jackson all but shouted as we looked at each other.
“We need to sedate him, check for an injection point, and run a tox screen.” Jackson started turning back to his father. “Once he’s calm and his mind is clear, maybe he can give us some information about who’s doing this and why.”
“I agree, son. In the meantime I think it’s best you take Leana back to your room. We’ll have guards posted outside the door along with doubling the amount of guards on patrol. Always in pairs, never alone.” Alpha John started giving out orders to everyone he could.
“Someone made it onto our territory with the intent to kill our future Luna, and who knows how many casualties could result from this. We must take all necessary precautions. Safety is our number one priority until we figure out who’s behind this.” The Alpha continued.
All of a sudden in the midst of all the chaos, the boy had somehow gotten his legs out of the restraints, stood up and charged at me. Immediately everyone sprang into action. Jackson pulled me farther behind him to act as a shield, and two guards grabbed and held him while the other re-restrained his legs.
The boy had the same look in his eye that Christian did as he looked at me.
“YOU THINK YOU CAN HIDE? YOU’RE MINE, AND IF YOU WONT BE WITH ME, I’LL MAKE SURE YOU WON’T BE WITH ANYONE ELSE! EVER!” He screamed as he once again tried to lunge at me.
“Get Leana out of here!” Alpha John ordered.
Jackson nodded and took my hand and left. We walked to our room in silence, trying to process all that happened in the last 20 minutes. Soon enough, we made it to Jackson’s room and I laid on the bed while Jackson used the bathroom.
This is really bad, but one thing is for sure: whoever was doing this has made their target clear. They weren’t going after Christian or even Jackson. It was me they wanted to hurt. It was me they wanted to kill, and it seems they were going to stop at nothing until it was done. That thought alone is terrifying.
I was so lost in my thoughts I didn’t realize that Jackson was in front of me, until I felt his hand on my shoulder making me jump a little.
“Hey it’s just me. You’re safe.” He said in a calming voice, trying to put me back at ease.
“No I’m not. No one is.” I signed back. “Someone clearly wants me gone, and we don’t know who they are, or who they’ll try to use next. We don’t know anything!”
“That’s not true.” He said “We know who their target is. We know what their end goal is. And we know they have easier access to your old pack than they have to mine.”
“But who are they? Why are they doing this?” I asked with tears brimming my eyes.
“You’re right. We don’t have those answers. But I promise you, we will stop at nothing until we do.”
