Chapter 51

Daisy's POV

I helped the families pack up. They were apprehensive about going. Callum had sent David to go with them. He was going to be the one in charge until we could reunite with the pack. If something did happen to Callum, David would be safe and take over as Alpha. David had fought to stay and help, but Callum had commanded him, and no one could break an alpha command.

They had left yesterday, and today, warriors had started to arrive. I didn't know how this was going to work. The ones who wanted to fight stayed. A lot of the pack stayed more than I thought would. Everyone was trained. The young and elderly had left, though. With a few crucial members, we needed to watch the pack while Callum and I were not there.

I was glad he had not sent me away. Not only because I wanted to fight by his side but because the idea of returning to Summit Pack for anything made my stomach twist. They all hated me there. But I knew I would have to go back after all was over. Our pack would want to see their Luna and Alpha. We would come to get them and travel back with them.

But I did not need to think about that now. I needed to focus on welcoming the warriors that would be arriving. Six packs were sending people. Only 4 had alphas with them. But Callum had told the other alphas they did not need to come. They just needed warriors. But Callum said to me that he was a weak alpha if the Alpha sent his men into battle without fighting with them. Now I know of two alphas that were weak.

The first wave of warriors arrived, and Callum and I shook each of their hands and told them we were grateful for them being here. Though we didn't need to. I am sure they knew they had to be here. They had been commanded by their Alpha, and their Alpha had been controlled by Callum. I was surprised there were few women in The Red Pack. It was different than other packs. Then there was Sunset Pack, and they were small in number but bulkier than any pack I had ever seen. I wondered if they had bigger bones and could pack on muscle like nothing else.

Callum mind linked me. "Sunset pack is full of good fighters. When I conquered them, it was not an easy feat. They are like fighting boulders." I could see that based on their build. The Haze Pack had the most women fighters. We had so many warriors, and I was glad we had many bunkhouses. But it was not enough. We had to set up cots in the high school gym. But we had found places for everyone.

I felt on edge. We knew the royals were coming but needed to know when. We knew it would be soon, but how soon. Would they come today as everyone was arriving or tomorrow when all were here? Would they hesitate and hope to starve us out? I had no idea. Summer spoke to me. "Let them come. I am going to make us a queen. That crown will sit on my head, and I will have won it in blood." "Calm down." I shushed her.

That was the other thing: what would we do when we defeated them. Would we dissolve the throne? Callum was already a king. Though he was only a king of six packs. How would we proceed when everything was done. I had a claim to the throne. But I didn't want to rule. I didn't want to collect taxes to live a lavish life.

I did want to help people, but I didn't feel the need to take care of the whole werewolf world. That was too much. I just wanted Blood Paw Pack. We could let everybody be independent, and if something catastrophic happened, we could step in.

I didn't know. But I knew better than to dwell on it. I need to focus on winning this war. "We should go in and eat," Callum said. It was lunchtime. "Yeah, alright." We walked into the chow hall. We had added a lot of places to our table for the visiting alphas. None of their Lunas came with them. I was not surprised. They needed someone to run their packs in their absence. Hopefully, they all made it back to their mates.

I looked out at the crowd. I knew not all of them would go home. I felt a pit form in my stomach. How could I let them go to their deaths? "Would we be dead? Blood Paw will be dead without us." Summer tried to comfort me. Callum's big hand ran up my thigh. He was not being sexual. He could feel my uneasiness and was trying to console me. It did help, but I still felt pangs of melancholy. Alpha Demitry looked at me. "Luna, I hear you are one of the best fighters." "I do what I can." "From my understanding, you are as deadly as your mate."

"I would say we are close to equal. Callum's wolf, Lorde, is stronger, but my wolf, Summer, is faster. " Summer scoffed and grumbled at Saying Lorde was stronger. I hushed her. "But, you fight just as brutally?" Did he suspect blood lust? The questions seemed pointed. Callum cut in. "My mate is deadly, I assure you. You should expect nothing less than that from the Luna of Blood Paw Pack." "Of course, Alpha."

It was weird to have Callum called Alpha by other Alphas. I mean, he was their Alpha, but it was just odd. Would they soon call him king? He already was theirs, but would they call him that after we won. The rest of the meal went by slowly. I couldn't stop thinking about all the death that was coming. Summer said. "We were made for war, Daisy. If we fight, we will save many people in this room just by being there. I need you to focus. I know you have a soft heart, but war is for me, and I will ensure we are victorious. I will bathe in blood." I shivered at her words.
