Chapter 50
Daisy's POV
"Hey Zelda, why do you think the rogues attacked?" I asked as we drove to the college. "I have no idea. If you ask me, they wanted the pack for themselves." "Has this ever happened?" "Not to our pack, but I have heard of it before. It was when I was a kid when I heard about it." "What happened. It was a pack in the southeast. A bunch of rogues in a huge number overtook a weaker pack. They killed everyone and established their own." "Rogues made their own pack." "Yeah, they took over the lands and used the previous buildings and everything." "Are they still there?" "I believe so. They kept the name, too." "What was the pack." "The sun pack."
I sat there thinking about what Zelda said. Why would the rogues want to do that to our pack? They could not seriously think they stood a chance. Sure, they had the numbers, but they were castouts. Who knew when the last time they trained was. I could see why they wanted our territory, but they had to know they would not have what we had. They would need help accessing the money the pack had. The whole thing was absurd. What gave them the idea that we would be a good place to attack.
I sat there stewing everything. I hated that we had lost people. Then again, it could be worse. We had been victorious. "Dam right, we slaughtered all of them." Summer said. I nodded in agreement. The ride to the college was mostly silent. Zelda had music softly playing. We first went and got a Frappuccino. I was craving one, and every time I went into town, I always got one. Zelda always ordered a black coffee. She was not big on sweets, which starkly contrasted with me.
"You know, Daisy, you are so lucky you can't get cavities." "Callum says the same thing." "I have never met someone who likes sugar as much as you do." "I don't know how to take that." "Well, it is not a dis or anything, just a statement. I do wonder how bad it will get when you get pregnant. Your cravings are going to be crazy." "What do you mean maybe I will crave salty things or spicy." "Nah, you will crave sweets; I just know it. You will be eating, I bet, whole containers of ice cream." I laughed. I took a sip of my drink. "When all is said is done, I will convince Callum to get someone to make Frappuccino for the pack." "He can only say no to you so many times. We all know he will cave for you eventually." "He better if not. I will take it upon myself to learn to make these things." "That is just what we need: a Luna making Frappuccino's for the whole pack. They already love you enough, but if you do that, they will think of you as a God," I laughed.
We approached the admissions office. "I need to see my advisor," I told the woman at the desk. She looked at Zelda and I. I gave her the name, and she told us we must wait. "It sucks you will have to quit school. Then again, I didn't know why you needed a degree." "I wanted to be better, Luna," I whispered, saying Luna. "You are already kick ass." "Thank you, but there is always room for improvement." "I guess I just think it was a waste of time. Honestly, you just being here has been the best thing that has happened in a decade. Not to mention, once you have a kid, I don't know if you will want to split your time between the pack, kids, and school." I looked at her.
Can I split my time between the three? Not to mention keeping Summer satiated. And I also want to have time with Callum. Then there is the fact we might be taking over for the royals. It has yet to be decided whether we will just eliminate or replace them. If that happens, won't I be busier? Maybe Zelda had a point. I was doing an excellent job as it was. I had been told I had been, at least. There was always more I could do, though.
The advisor called my name. I walked into her room, Zelda in tow. After the attacks with the rogue, I knew she would not be giving me any space. I didn't argue with her. "Does your friend want to wait outside?" "No, she is fine with me," I told the advisor. "So what can I do for you." "I need to drop out." "Is there a reason?" "I just have a lot of things going on, and school is not what I need to focus on." "From what I see, you are doing well in your classes. I don't think it is a good idea to just quit." "I really need to put other things first." She looked at me quizzically. "Well, if you insist. But I will tell you, since it is not the end of the semester, you will have no credits and have to start from scratch if you decide to return."
"I understand." I felt bumped that I would get no credit for the semester, but Callum had said we both needed to focus on the pack. He was right. The pack was the most important thing. People relied on the two of us. And Blood Paw Pack had been without a proper Luna for so long that I could not divide my time. Not now, and maybe Zelda was right, not ever.
We finished with the advisor, and as we walked back to the SUV, we ran into Matt. "Daisy, are you headed to class? I have not seen you the last few days." "I actually won't be in classes anymore." "What do you mean?" "I have other obligations and, well, had to drop out." "What?" "Yeah, it's just there are things that are more important." "More important than an education?" "I don't need a degree; I just wanted one, but some things are more important. I bet you will kill it, though."
"This is that stupid boyfriend, isn't it?" Summer growled in my head. "No, it is not; I just have some things that take priority." "He knocked you up, didn't he. That is why you're dropping out." What? Where was this coming from? "I am not pregnant." "This is shit, and you know it. There should be no reason to have to abandon what you want to do." "Trust me, this is what I want to do. But really, I think you will be great." He looked at me with disappointment. "Look, I will maybe see you around, alright. But, I kind of need to be getting back." "Yeah." I gave him a shrug, and Zelda and I walked away from him.
