Chapter 52
Callum's POV
The snow had started to fall. It was late in the afternoon. We had fires going all over the place outside. We were surprised to find out when the Royal Pack would arrive; if they came at night, we wanted to be ready. We had kept fires going the last few days. We had pulled our men from the border. The only people from the border.
I had fewer men there, all hiding to let us know when they arrived. Then, they would pull back and join our army. Daisy and I had been sitting around one of the big fires when we got the mind link. "Alpha, they are here." "What are the numbers?" "More than we thought, it is not only the Royal Pack. They brought other packs from around the world." My face fell when I looked at Daisy.
I suddenly felt the trepidation of what would happen next. I had yet to account for them bringing another pack in. They had always been arrogant, and I thought they would want to show that they could defeat us themselves. This would not be the case. If we were going to be outnumbered, then so be it. It was too late to regroup. They were here. "I will not flee," Daisy said in my head.
"Everyone, Shift and get ready. They are here. Brace yourself." I called out to everyone over the link. The other Alphas relied on their men. I hoped the traps we had set would take out many of their numbers. We all shifted. Summer stood next to Lorde. Both of us are ready. I could feel Lorde's emotions. He was full of hatred. "Kill, Kill, Kill." He chanted. He would wreak havoc this world has never known. This is where he shone. It is why we were considered a king.
We had done this many times over and won. The odds had not always been in our favor, but hopefully, the Goddess was on our side tonight. The first growls came from the woods. They were in the traps. Big holes with spikes at the bottom. They had run right into them, impaling themselves. We had dug these holes right after some of our pack went to safety. There were so many, and all spread out in the woods. The snow was now coming down hard.
Sheets of white powder just flew everywhere. As if time stood still, we saw them coming out of the woods to the clearing. We had chosen this area. It was free of buildings, and we knew it would be the best place to fight. I knew better than to know the king would be leading the attack. But I felt it. The prince was amongst these wolves. Summer looked at Lorde. "That is him right." "That is the prince," I told her. Everyone could feel his authority.
I suddenly felt him pushing his authority onto us. He wanted us to kneel. Lorde refused to give in. The others were fighting it. I called out my authority matching his, which knocked out his influence. Lorde shook his big head, getting his composure back. I could see why he tried to make us yield. He didn't want to fight. But this was going to him or us. I tilted my head to the sky, letting out a tremendous howl. Our warriors joined. Then everything started.
Wolves rushed at wolves. Everything was a blur. Lorde tore through wolves. He didn't stop for kills. He made sure each bite would do that. He was ripping limps off left and right. They would bleed out if they didn't get help right away. My father had almost died this way. His arm had been taken, and he would die if we had not acted quickly.
These wolves didn't have time to get help; I knew this would kill them. I was rushing, killing whoever stood in front of me. I didn't have an objection. I had sat back in my mind and let Lorde completely take control. He loved this. This is what he was made for. To defeat his enemies in bling rage. The sun had set, and I didn't know how anyone could see in front of them. The fires did little to help light the area as the snow was falling hard.
Lorde was a monster. However, I noticed he needed to be more focused on getting to the prince. "Lorde, we need to kill the prince." He ignored me. He had given over to the bloodlust he would just kill. There was no rhyme or reason. If you were in his way, then you were dead. I tried again but still couldn't bring his mind to do what I wanted.
He was consumed, and so was Summer as well. I mind-linked Daisy. "Is Summer consumed?" "The bloodlust I gave into it. I gave her control. I have not tried to stop her; so many of them exist. We are vastly outnumbered." "Lorde is too into the bloodlust. He can't go after the prince. He won't listen to me." "I will try." Lorde, I felt him shift. I listened to Daisy talk to him. "Lorde, you need to kill the prince." He let out a growl. He didn't want to stop to sniff.
But Daisy had asked him, and he loved her. He put his nose up for a second to smell the air. He locked on to the smell of power and began to run toward it. Ripping into all who were between him and the prince. "Lorde, if you kill him, it is just the king. He is the next heir. He needs to be put down and fast." He bit through the last body that stood between the prince and him.
The prince's wolf had just ripped someone's throat out. He was covered in blood. Both of us circled each other. This would not be like fighting others. He would match my speed. My strength. The royals were not weak by any means. "Lorde, kill." He growled and pounced.
