Chapter 48

Callum's POV

I looked down at Daisy. She had inhaled a lot of smoke. Not only that, she had rebroken one of her libs. I didn't know why there were so many rogues attacking us. We had never seen so many rogues in one place. We had some deaths, but luckily, we didn't have more dead; the rogues, on the other hand, were not so fortunate. I can't believe they burnt down the clinic. They had sent many other fires as well. Luckily, we had put those fires out before they spread too much. I was proud of my little Luna. She had defended the pack despite the fact she had been injured.

The whole thing was shocking. How had they come out of nowhere? There were so many it was the same number as if they were their own pack. Not one child was harmed, and that was fortunate. I was relieved that the young had been spared, but we had collected bodies all day. We would have a big fire at the end of the day to honor our dead. The rogues had already been dragged out into the woods to rot. They would not be honored like our dead.

They would rot and decay. As they deserved. But the killing was not going to stop. I had killed the prince. We had killed the men he came with, and no one was left alive. War was coming, and I felt it would be more complex than any battle. I needed to find a place for the children and elderly to stay to keep them safe. I could always ask the alphas I had under me to take them, but they would have their own elderly and children to protect.

Where would I send them? I thought about it. I would talk to Daisy about it and see what she thought. She was good at finding solutions to problems. The best thing to do was to be preemptive and attack the royals first. Whatever the case, I would need to call the alphas under me and either make our stance here or go to them, but now it was confident they were coming. I don't know why the rogues had attacked in such a number.

Why would they do that? My reputation alone should have scared them away. But their numbers were overwhelming. If that happened again while we fought, my pack would be no more. I needed to send my people out to keep them safe. "Callum." I heard the sweetest voice. I looked down, and my little mate was asking for me. "I am here, Daisy." "The pack, is everyone okay?" "Yes, well, no, we had some causalities, but it is all okay now." "How is the woman who gave birth?" "She is okay. She actually named her daughter Daisy since you saved her and her baby's life."

"Really." "Yes, the pack is happy you helped, regardless if it was diametral to your health. You almost died from smoke annihilation. Not to mention, you broke another leg. You lost a lot of blood. But from what I had heard, you took out a lot of rogues on your way to the school and on the way to the hospital. You had also saved so many people in the clinic. I have to say you are a hero." "I am no hero. The wolfs who died are the heroes." I smiled at her. "Why did this happen. There were so many of them." "I have no idea. They came out of nowhere."

"We need to get to the bottom of this. You killed Damon. How long do we have before the Royals come?" "I don't know, but we need to call the other alphas and have them send their warriors." "What are we going to do with the young and old." "I was hoping you had an idea." She was silent for a long time and then looked at me. "You still have a favor from my old alpha. Send them there." "I knew you would know what to do." "Do you think he will agree?" "He owes me a favor, which means something, as you know." She nodded. "When do we need to attack?" "I don't know if we should wait for them to come or us to go to them." "We should have them come to us. We know the area where we can set traps and anticipate where to attack them on our own field." "I will call the alphas tomorrow. Tonight, we have pyres for the fallen. Do you think you are up for helping me?" "Of course, I will be there. What kind of Luna would I be if I was not there."

"There is something else I need to talk to you about." "What?" "I need you to quit school." "What?" "I am sorry, love, but I need you here to take care of the pack. To help fight when the time comes. I can't have you dividing your focus. But, when this is all done, you can return to school. I also think online school is going to be better for you." I could tell she was disappointed. "I understand, but you better keep your word when all is said and done. I want a degree." "I promise." She nodded. I knew she would put the pack fast. I hated to tell her what she needed to do, but she needed to have her focus on just the pack with everything going on.

Now, let's get you out of bed. Even though she was healing, Daisy stood. She still looked pretty beaten up. "What are we doing about the wounded since we don't have a clinic." "We set up a temporary clinic. I sent the doctor out to get what he needed to prepare for a battle and the wounds that would follow." "Good. When will he be back." "Should be only a few days." "Okay, well, we best get ready. "Black, right?" "Yes, black to the pyres they have been setting them up. Sunset is almost here, and we burn when it sets." "Very well, we should get ready to meet the pack."
