The White Haired Woman and A Bad Timing
Chapter 170: The White Haired Woman and A Bad Timing

Jonah smirked at the view before him: the chaos, the colourful flares in the air, and the beautiful moon watching the battle.

"Who knew they would be this determined? I told Elias fighting them like this was a waste," he said to Marques, who was in the middle of shifting.

“I'll take on the giddy old guy flying around,” Marques growled, and Jonah frowned.

"Why can't you take the Lycan?”

Marques shrugged. “I like the other one; he seems fun. You take on the Lycan. It shouldn't be so hard,” he said and turned to the clearing. He nearly jumped when a massive wolf charged at them at full speed.

As he made to defend himself, Cain's wolf skidded to a stop and shifted back instantly.

“The rogue’s leader can shift back too."

Marques chuckled softly, despite nearly losing his composure. “After our encounter with that crazy half-breed, we learned new tricks.” He tilted his head. "How is her eyesight, by the way?”

Cain frowned. He knew Marques had to be responsible for what happened when they were at the Frostgale packs and Lena was attacked, but he didn't bother to think too deeply into it.

Jonah, who watched the two in silence, finally raised his sword. “You’re the Lycan Alpha that runs this place… Cain, correct?”

Cain raised a brow. "And who's asking?”

"The man who will eliminate your filthy..."

A leg slammed into the side of his face, sending him crashing into a tree before he could finish his words.

Marques and Cain were both shocked, but when Cain saw that it was Andrew, he exhaled.

"Seriously?”

Andrew shrugged. "This battle is pretty easy for me, so you focus on making sure they don't get into the pack while I handle the big guys.” He pointed his gun at Cain, and Cain sighed once again.

He quickly shifted to his huge form and glanced at Marques, who just shrugged, completely shifted as well, and charged at once.

Andrew sauntered to where Jonah lay with a wicked grin plastered on his face. “Hey, Haven, what were you saying about eliminating wolves?"

Jonah, lying on the ground with blood dripping from his lips, raised his head and frowned deeply. “If you wanted to know, why did you attack me then?" he snarled at Andrew, who simply shrugged.

“This old man really hates crawlers, and you're one of them, so I hate you."

“The feeling’s mutual." Jonah snapped and pulled out a gun swiftly from his pocket and fired at Andrew.

Although Andrew managed to move fast enough, the bullet grazed the side of his cheek. His brows knitted together. “That's… not nice.”

Jonah grinned and picked up his swords. He rose to his feet with the support of his swords and pointed them at Andrew.

"I hate you werewolves so much,” he snarled, and Andrew smiled.

"I hate you humans too.”

Amidst the chaos, Shayla, who had made her way to where Cain and Andrew were fighting, dropped her jaw as she saw the intense fight between the four.

Her gaze shifted to the crawlers not far from them, watching the fight in silence, and she frowned. “They are not moving," she thought, and then froze when their heads suddenly snapped sideways and they broke into a run, heading towards the human town.

"No! No way,” she yelled and immediately shifted partially to hold her speed. She leaped onto the nearest tower and fired the flare gun towards the human town.

In the town, Vitto, who was patrolling outside the warehouse, saw the flare move through the sky, and he yelled towards the warehouse. “They're coming."

Lyra, who was by the entrance of the warehouse, exhaled. "Why are they coming here now?”

Reah, however, stayed calm; she focused on what she was doing. "Don't worry, they'll handle it.”

Right on cue, hidden snipers opened fire from the rooftops of the houses. Ballistas fired from concealed positions near the entrance of the town.

The crawlers roared as the bolts and arrows fired into their flesh and weak joints. Despite their speed and monstrous form, they were just like regular werewolves, only uglier.

Vitto shifted and ran out to meet them, drawing their attention away from the warehouse.

Inside the cart, Lena helped Reah connect the last line to the machine, and the machine turned on.

Lena shuddered out of relief; they finally got the machine to start working after so many tries. However, as she glanced out the window, she sighed.

“He's not with the army…” she mumbled and trailed off. It made no sense.

Elias was still nowhere close by, and she hadn't seen the flare warning them that Elias had shown his face. If he was close, she would have sensed him, yet there was nothing.

Then suddenly, a sharp pain moved through her belly, making her gasp. She doubled over and felt a sudden warm liquid run down her legs.

Reah snapped her head at Lena. “Is everything alright..."

Lena looked down at the puddle then up at Reah with a nervous smile. “Uhm… well…”

Reah cursed under her breath as she dropped her tools and moved to Lena's side. “You have to be kidding me."

Lyra rushed in. “I heard someone scream. What's wrong..." She trailed off when she saw the puddle as well. “Oh no."

Reah pointed at the floor. “Her water broke.”

They all remained still for a moment. The sounds of gunshots and explosions and roars continued, filling the silence.

"What do we do?” Lyra asked in panic. "How are we going to handle that and the machine and the battle?” She paused. "Can you hold it?”

Lena and Reah both stared at her in disbelief, until she finally realized how absurd her statement was.

A soft knock came at the window closest to them. A woman with long white hair leaned in, smiling sweetly. She had light blue eyes that resembled the sea; then she looked straight at Lena.

"I'll handle this,” the woman said in a calm voice. "Focus on your baby.”

Lena stared at her with a racing heart. She didn't know the woman, but something about her voice seemed very familiar—so familiar she was certain she had heard it before.

Reah stepped forward protectively. “Who are you?”

The white-haired woman only smiled reassuringly. “Someone who’s been waiting a long time to put that bastard in his place.”
