Chapter 171: Assistant from A Witch?
The battle at the entrance of the pack became even worse as the minutes passed by.
The third generation crawlers moved with terrifying speed and intelligence. They dodged the cannon fire, used the trees as covers and even attacked the soldiers head on.
They began taking out the cannons buried in the grounds, without much effort.
Their red human-like eyes scanned the field, as though searching for something. Rogues flanked them, for protection, but they barely kept up.
Cain tore through Marques flesh, as he cut the throat of a crawler charging at him. He shifted back to his human form, and created a distance between himself and the rogue and shouted. “Be careful with the smaller rogues…!” he leaped onto a tree to dodge Marques’s attack. “They adapt, so find an easier way to kill them!”
Andrew did a flip mid air not far from Cain as he evaded the bullets being shot at him. He aimed his own gun and shot three times at Jonah, but he also dodged it, missing the bullets by a hair.
Andrew landed on a tree branch. “Are you sure you're human?"
Jonah smirked, “Didn't think humans could move like this?"
Andrew nodded, but the more he thought about it, no human, since he was born, ever moved as fast and was as strong as Jonah.
That's when it hit him, a smirk suddenly appeared on his face. “You use technology to enhance your physical abilities, correct?"
Jonah gave no answer, he only fired his gun at Andrew, only to realise he was no longer there. He frowned as he lowered his gun. His eyes darted around the space around him to catch a glimpse of the wolf, but instead there was nothing.
‘Did he escape?’ he thought, but before he could settle on the thought fully a leg smashed into the side of his face, knocking him to the ground instantly.
A painful groan left Jonah's lips, he reached for his gun despite his sight being blurry and dizzy, but Andrew kicked the gun away and hit the side of Jonah's head again knocking him unconscious.
The ground suddenly shook, pausing the attacks of everyone for a split second. Then a new wave of crawlers burst forth from the southern forest, multiple third gens, smaller than the first group, and at the frontline was Elias, riding on one of them.
He wore no armour, only a long black coat that fluttered behind him. His red eyes gleamed in excitement at the chaos, and he smiled.
Then he raised one hand, and all the third generation crawlers halted at once.
Cain, who was still fighting Marques, glanced at the path Elias was on. “There he is."
Marques switched back and scoffed, "You'll have to kill me before you….”
Shink!
Andrew's sword passed cleanly through Marques’s jaw, killing the rogue's leader instantly.
Cain, already used to the recklessness and unpredictability of the Frostgale Alpha let out a sigh. “Did you kill the other one?"
Andrew shook his head, “Tied him to a tree for research later," he looked at the group of crawlers and exhaled. “This neverending production of those things is becoming annoying. What do we do?"
Cain reached into Andrew's holster and took out a dagger, “We kill the leader and then finish off the crawlers since they can't function properly without a leader."
Elias' voice echoed over the battlefield, calm and filled with confidence. “You've fought well, but playtime is over, hand over Lena and I'll stop my attacks."
Shayla, who was the closest to him, scoffed and yelled back. "You'll have to kill every single one of us before you get your hands on her." She said, cringing slightly at how she was trying to sacrifice her own life for Lena.
Elias stared at her blankly and snapped his fingers.
The crawlers charged forward again, but this time, they were headed straight to the human town.
Shayla's eyes widened, “You have to be kidding me!"
Ashley shifted fully behind her and ran after the Crawlers howling at the top of her lungs. Behind her, the other wolves followed suit, as well as Cain and Andrew.
At the human town, the crawlers there kept on fighting, they crashed against the walls. Snipers fired from the rooftops, but the beasts still moved even as they bled.
Vitto did the most damage out of everyone. His wolf form, slashed the throats of the crawlers and even when he was pinned down, he fought with all his might.
Meanwhile, inside the warehouse, the white haired woman stepped into the warehouse through the window.
She moved with a calm stride. Her long white hair swayed in the lab. In one hand she held a slender spear, with a blue blade, and in the other a gun.
Reah blocked her path. “You still haven’t answered, who are you?”
The woman tilted her head, “I’m Yelena. Elias’s former assistant...”
Lena's eyes widened. The voice was so familiar that it gave her goosebumps.
She took a deep breath, enduring the pain and spoke. “You….have we met before?”
Yelena smiled softly, “I suppose, but that isn't necessary now.”
Lena didn't find that convincing but decided to let it go.
“I am one of the few who survived Elias' experiment and managed to escape.”
Lyra took Lena's hands and helped her balance, “We don't have time for all this talk, how do you intend to help us?"
Outside, the sounds of the crawlers drew close and it made Lyra jolt.
Yelena turned towards the door and she took off the cloak on her, revealing the simple trouser and shirt she wore, without any armour. "Stay here…”
Reah stared at her like she was insane before speaking, “You're planning on facing those things dressed like that?"
Yelena smirked and turned to her, her blue eyes glowed faintly. "Do witches fight with armor or swords?” She asked, but was already leaving before anyone could recover from the shock.
