Chapter 169: Too Easy
The alarms stationed at the highest points across the combined territories of Frostgale and Silver Cresentmoon blared louder than the chaos. The sound was like a thunder clap in the sky, alerting those who were even close to the battle field that there was danger.
Lena moved as quickly as her heavy belly allowed her. Vitto, who had shifted, trailed behind her carefully, as he observed the area. He helped her to the covered cart that carried the lab and carried her in.
Inside, Reah was seated beside the strange machine they had built together, a tall metal cylinder with tubes and vents designed to spread the anti crawler serum as a fine mist and a strange glowing gas.
Lyra climbed in last, with a gun sling over her shoulder.
The mobile lab finally rolled out of the pack through another path under heavy guard. Vitto and a dozen werewolf soldiers ran in the forest just close enough to the lab, while the human soldiers rode on horses in front and behind the lab.
They headed straight for the nearest human town, a small settlement, just beyond the combined territories of both packs. It had a few houses and the camps of most of the soldiers that chose to stay around the pack in case of emergencies.
There were a handful of Orion's soldiers stationed there already, and as planned.
Inside the town, Reah's eyes widened when her gaze caught sight of some crates placed at the entrance of the large warehouse.
“Look," she pointed as she helped Lena out of the lab.
The crates were marked with the Haven society's bold symbol, crossed green blades over a black eye.
If she remembered clearly what Orion told her, there were strange advanced devices brought from overseas, glowing power cells, thin metal rods and sealed boxes of chemicals.
"I thought he was playing when he said they seized these when the society was silent.” Reah said, “It saves me a whole lot of work."
Lena tilted her head, "How good are they?”
Lyra took Lena's hand and carefully led her towards the warehouse, "If they are from across the sea then that means it's technology we might have problems handling. We barely have the resources to even generate electricity, if not for the Human's help."
Reah nodded, following behind, “True but at least we rely on our technology, your kind relies on strength and whatever you have around you."
Lena nodded once again in agreement, but her mind was elsewhere. On her way here, she hadn't heard anything about Elias, and neither did she feel his presence.
Miles away, at the entrance of the pack, the real battle had already begun.
The dust clouds parted to reveal the terrifying creature. Second generation crawlers, although few, were large, with thick fleshes and what resembled horns on their heads.
Behind them came about twenty to fifty third generation crawlers, almost twice the size of a horse, which was small, but they looked almost like werewolves.
And that bothered the werewolves more than the second generations.
They all had red eyes, but the difference was that the third generation crawlers had eyes like humans, but bodies of werewolves and crawlers combined.
There were two pairs of rogues beside each crawler, ready to attack.
‘The Goddess protects us’ Cain thought and yelled at the top of his voice, and echoed over the field. “Fire!"
The cannons roared out first. A line of metallic balls tore through the air from the front and center lines. One third gen crawler lost three legs in a single blast and collapsed.
The ballistas followed, arrows moving from the ground and towers towards their targets. They pierced through the skulls of the rogues and third generation crawlers, since they were easy to penetrate.
The shooters on the towers reloaded fast, human precision matched with werewolf strength, it was a flawless formation.
Cain, who was on one of the towers observing the movement of the Crawlers, noticed the second generation crawlers were already past the front line and were charging towards the entrance.
He also realized the weapons were barely doing anything to them.
He scoffed, “They get annoying every time I see them," he mumbled and pulled out a small gun that Orion had given them from his pocket. He raised it into the air, and pulled the trigger, firing a green flare into the air.
As soon as the light flashed into the air, Andrew hidden in one of the trees, leaped out into the air and started leaping from tree to tree, with Leonard and the others behind him.
Cain shifted as well, his body grew massive, fur as black as the night appeared on his flesh, and his eyes became pools of blood.
He leaped from the tower and to the ground and began moving through the trees, cutting and tearing the flesh of any crawler he saw.
Andrew, who managed to catch up with Cain, shifted partially, his legs were large, carrying his human body like a feather, making him faster.
His red eyes gleamed with excitement as he darted between the groups of rogues and crawlers at blinding speed. He had a gun in one hand, and a sword in the other, and he used them even better than anyone.
That was what six months of continuous training could do to a person.
He fired into the crawler's eyes, rendering them blind, and then cut their throats swiftly before they could react.
Ashley and Shayla, aft behind the two Alphas fought side by side. They started with rifles, firing clean shots at the mysteriously black cloaked individuals, the Haven society members who also had guns with them.
Leonard and a few other werewolf soldiers helped them as well, but they had to focus on the rogues.
Once the bullets finished in their guns, they switched to their swords, but that ended up getting broken.
“Swords are useless in this!" Shayla shouted at the top of her voice as she dodged a blade being swung at her and kneed the individual in the crotch.
Ashley agreed, throwing another cloaked individual into one of their werewolf soldiers running and they got crushed under the weight.
They both decided to shift and continued fighting.
Andrew, covered in the blood of the creatures, leaped into the air, and stood one of the trees, and shouted as loud as he could. "Stronger ones, drop your swords, shift and attack head on. Shooters stay back and protect the entrance.”
They all obeyed, dozens of werewolves shifted, adding their roars to the chaos of the night, and they clashed with the crawlers one at the time
Then two figures, stepped out of the group of third generation crawlers laying in wait not too far from the battle field as backup.
Jonah, he had a cloak one, but dropped the hood revealing his face, and in his hand was two swords, and a small pistol in his thigh holster.
