Chapter 182 Untitled Chapter
Chapter 182 Untitled Chapter
Is he kidding me? I left those phones on my desk inside my office. How could he not have seen them?
“I searched everywhere. Including your lockers, but I found nothing. Could you have forgotten them in the house?”
I haven't even gone to the house today. I literally left them in the office.
“Never mind, when I get to the headquarters, I will look for them.”
I waved him off and headed towards the bed.
A few minutes later, I decided to take a quick break to go to the headquarters to find those phones. I need them urgently, and Sophia is in safe hands since I have left five officers from the division to keep an eye on her.
I warned them not to allow any nurse or doctor to attend to her again until I am back. And if they insist on administering any medication, I must be notified.
I returned to the headquarters, headed straight to the office, but unfortunately, the phones were in the spot I left them. Not on my desk, not inside the drawer, the locker, or the washroom.
Yes, I occasionally leave my phone in the washroom when I have a lot on my mind about a case.
“When I was away, who came into my office??” I asked the officer down the stairs, the one with whom I always went out before I started suspecting them.
“The officer from the downtown division.” A smirk appeared on his face as he said that. I know why. He is only jealous that I don't involve them in anything anymore.
“Are you looking for something? You should ask him because he took so long inside that office, and when he came out, he was acting suspicious.”
Oh, I see. He doesn't know that I was the one who sent him here. At the time he went inside the office, it was because he was looking for the phone.
“You don't know this, Detective Lizzy, but the officers in the downtown division are said to be pickpockets. They…”
I folded my arms, staring at him with a smirk. This is unbelievable. There is nothing they cannot do to ruin each other’s reputations because of jealousy.
“I don't gossip, dude. You’d better go back to your work instead of wasting your time trying to poison my mind. It doesn't work on me. Also, refrain from saying all these things about them; it won't make me change my mind about you guys.”
I hissed at him, scoffed, and walked away. The earlier they know that I want nothing to do with them again, the better.
“Bring Doctor Felix to the interrogation room.”
A few minutes after I had sat down, they brought him, and before I could even ask him anything, he started confessing.
“I was forced to do it. Please give me one more chance, and I will never listen to anybody who will put me in trouble again.”
“Let me guess.” I leaned forward, my elbows resting on the desk. “This time too, it was Noah who threatened you to poison my daughter so that she wouldn't wake up and tell me all that she heard him saying in the amusement park, right?”
Dr. Felix nodded his head. He didn't decline it because he knew that he was in a deep pit of trouble.
“Yes, Detective Lizz, it was Mr. Noah who told me to do that. He said if I don't carry out his order, he will have me abducted and cut into pieces. He also said that he will track down my family and have them wiped off the surface of the Earth.”
He wiped off the tears on his face and sniffled. “I am just a puppet in his hands; that is why I couldn't say no to what he wanted me to do. Please, Lizzy, understand me. You know that I can never do something as terrible as that to a little girl who doesn't know anything. Even if a patient's relative provokes me, I never take it out on the patient by killing them or worsening their condition. I am a doctor whose only ambition is to save lives and to take good care of my family.”
I have known Dr. Felix for a while now, and I can attest to the things he said. He is only scared of losing his job, as that is the job that pays his bills and takes care of his family. Dr. Felix, I know, will open a clinic if Noah succeeds in firing him from his job. However, the threat of losing his license was the only thing that made him change his mind to carry out Noah's evil order.
I can decide to just let him go because he is also a victim of threats. But I cannot let him go unpunished. It isn't done that way. If he is being released, others will keep on doing the same thing, with full assurance that they will be released even if they are caught.
“I heard you, Dr. Felix, but I want you to know that you are going to spend a few months in prison so that you will learn not to allow anyone to take advantage of your weakness.”
“I understand, Detective Lizzy, and I am grateful that you understand me. I swear from now on, I will never allow anybody to walk over me again, even if it is the president of this prestigious country who gives me an order to kill someone or do something that is against my professional ethics. I will reject it instantly.”
That is the spirit, and I love it that he has already learned a great lesson. “Good for you.” I got up smirking. “If you like, you can go ahead and be a puppet to the rich just because you are scared of losing your job.”
After leaving the interrogation room, I returned to the office, still thinking of where I might have dropped those phones. I need to check that phone I found in Noah's house because it looks so familiar.
Inside the office, I sat down on the sofa and crossed my legs thinking deeply of where those phones could have been kept I got up again, pacing around the office, when my eyes suddenly fell on the surveillance camera.
Snap!
My face brightened up. Whoever must have come into my office to steal those phones has forgotten that there is a camera inside the office that will capture their faces. Quickly, I dragged a chair towards the wall and climbed on it. I clicked on a red button below the camera, and the memory card came out. It would have been so easy to watch the footage on my phone, but I couldn't unless I inserted the memory card inside my personal computer.
As fast as I could, I inserted the memory card into a flash drive and put it in the computer. Luckily, it wasn't tampered with. When I clicked on the footage from three hours ago, it showed two officers entering the office.
