Chapter 170 Untitled Chapter
Chapter 170 Untitled Chapter
So my dream wasn't wrong after all. The rumors are all over among his college colleagues. But why am I just finding it out now?
“When I found out you guys were together, I was stunned, Lizzy. You are a detective, and your job is to wipe out criminals, not to date them.”
Tell me what I know, dude. If I knew that Noah was that kind of person or had a nasty beginning, I wouldn't have given him a chance to come into our lives.
I detest evil people!
“Lizzy? It might sound like Alex was lying to you because he is your ex-husband, and you won't be on good terms with him, especially since he said he wanted nothing to do with the child you had together. But whatever he said to you about Noah was correct. You should consider investigating his mansion, and you will be shocked by what you will find.”
Hmm. That sounds like a good idea. Noah is leaving town tomorrow. And although I am against it, I should support him in leaving so I can go to his house and search everywhere.
If anything suspicious is found there, then we can set up a trap for him to fall into as soon as he returns the following week.
“I heard you, Alex’s friend. And thank you for the information.” I got up, then picked up the gun on the sofa.
“You can go now.” As if he were waiting for me to say that, he sprang up, sighing in relief.
“You are welcome, Lizzy. Umm, Lizzy? Can we have a word, please? Do not be offended; I just want the best, that's all.”
“Spit it out.”
“It's about Alex. Why don't you guys get back together when things are back to normal? Alex still loves you, and since he was your first love too, perhaps you are still in love with him.”
Really? This guy doesn't know what he is saying. Me, return to Alex? May God forbid it. I’d rather stay single for the rest of my life than return to his house.
“Have you forgotten that Alex has a baby mama?” I asked in case he doesn't know.
“Oh, you mean Hazel? We all know her. But I assure you, no one among our circle of friends likes her. Even though Alex doesn't like her, her pregnancy was unexpected. Hazel thinks she is the boss of everyone. She commands Alex however she wants it, and if he doesn't do what she says, there will be a huge fire in the mountain.”
Hahahaha. That serves him right. Finally! He has gotten the kind of woman he needs. Not someone like me who always tried my best to do all the things he needed.
“Not interested, dude. Time to leave. And if you don't want to, then I will have the officers lock you up.”
I wasn't kidding about it, but he thought I was, and he laughed.
Who cares about Alex? I'm not even cut out for this gossip.
So now that two people said the same thing about Noah, it is time to go dig into his mansion.
I can't believe we have gotten into this phase. Who could have thought that one day, Noah’s mansion would fall into my investigation? Sighs.
The moment I sat on the sofa in my office, I pulled out my phone from my pocket to call the officers in the other division but found it off.
Jeez! I totally forgot about it. It went off earlier on, and I forgot to plug it in.
Now I will have to wait until it is fully charged before it can come on again.
“Detective Lizzy? If there is anything we have done to you, please forgive us. We don't know why you've refused to give us any task again, but whatever it is, we are sure it is something serious.”
Good, they know it must be something serious. Now they should go sit their butts down and reflect on whatever that could be.
“See? I have no time to explain anything for you. You guys know what you did. Or should I say what you are doing? Gather yourselves, ask each other, and then think deep. When you realize your mistakes, do not even come to me; start practicing on how you will spend your lives in prison. It might even be the rest of your lives; who knows?”
I shrugged my shoulders, getting up from the chair.
“And this,” I pointed to the hospital gown on the sofa. “Return it to the hospital. When you are there, go ahead and discuss this with the person you are working with, okay?”
I scoffed, walking past him.
“Can you expatiate, Detective Lizzy? I am a bit confused here. I have no idea what you are talking about.”
Why would he know since he doesn't want me to find it out?
“Pick up the gown and leave already; I am tired and need some rest.”
He picked the gown with a sigh, bowed slightly, and left the office.
Look at him. Betrayers.
Throughout the night, I kept checking my phone to see if it was fully charged, but it wasn't, and it was taking so long. Worse, the phone wouldn't go on because it shut down by itself and would only turn on when it was one hundred percent charged.
That phone has no idea the kind of things inside it that I needed to check out. Had I managed to see them in the night, Noah would have been stopped from leaving the city because I was sure I would find something suspicious among the messages.
Eventually, I fell asleep while waiting for the phone to charge, and when I woke up the next morning, the first thing I went to check was the phone.
What in the world! My heart flapped like wings about to take off in the air when I saw that the phone had two more percent to fully charge.
I have been using the phone for more than five years now, and it hasn't done this before. Why now that I have something important to do? Sighs.
I went inside the bathroom to take a bath, knowing well that when I came out, the phone would have turned on by itself. And as soon as I stepped out of the bathroom, water dripping from my body, falling on the towel around my chest, my phone went off.
It finally turned on by itself! What a relief. Now who is calling?
“Detective Lizzy? Mr. Noah is already gone.”
