Chapter 169 Untitled Chapter
Chapter 169 Untitled Chapter
“What are you doing?”
My blood froze as if he were caught by a winter storm. I couldn't even turn around as my heart was pounding against my sternum.
Noah has caught me red-handed, going through his phone. Now what?
And wait a second. Why do I feel like I have done something illegal? He is a suspect, and I have the right to go through his things.
Acting this way would only make me look unprofessional.
I inhaled deeply, turned around, and looked at him blankly.
“What do you think I am doing?” I smirked, stepping away from the bed. “And where are you coming from? I thought you said your leg hurt a lot and you needed surgery.”
He seems fine to me, and he could even walk without crutches or a walker.
“Oh, yes,” he sighed. “I look okay, but only I know what I am feeling right now. Also, I only took a stroll outside to ease the excruciating pain.”
He walked past me, picked up his phone, and sat on the bed gently. “I am in so much pain, Lizzy. I just wish tomorrow would come in an eye blink so I can leave.”
“Are you going to have it cut off?” I lifted a brow in surprise because he sounded like that. Sitting in the plane for hours before reaching their destination won't stop the leg from aching. And it will also take the doctor's time to prepare for the surgery, so he will still feel the pain.
“Hell no!” he gasped, staring at me with wide eyes. “Why would you say that, dude? If my legs are cut off, even you won't look at me. And I haven't gotten married yet. I need kids of my own.”
Jeez! It's good that he knows. I might agree to marry him if we were in a romantic fantasy world, but not here. He is a suspect whom I am one hundred percent sure will be found guilty after the investigation. So, what would I do with a criminal like him? Nothing!
“Yes.” I nodded in affirmation.
Noah shook his head, then looked at his phone. As soon as he saw the message notification, his eyes snapped wide, but he quickly retracted them.
“I’ll leave now.”
I said, heading towards the door because I have been so eager to leave and go check out those messages. If found guilty, Noah cannot leave the town. I must have him arrested as soon as possible.
“Can you come quickly, Detective Lizzy? A guy was brought to the headquarters from the downtown division officers, and they've refused to let us lock him up in prison.”
Seriously? Are they kidding me? Didn't the officers from the downtown division tell them that guy shouldn't be locked up?
“It is none of your business…”
My phone shut down, cutting the call.
Omg! So bad. I thought my phone was fully charged. Now I won't be able to look at the information I took from Noah’s phone. Sighs.
I entered the car, drove out of the hospital, and headed towards the headquarters.
Outside the building, the officers were gathered around, arguing with the ones from the division, whilst the guy they brought was with them.
That angered me, and I wanted to punish them for doing that shit in front of the guy.
Shouldn't they have taken him inside first, then said whatever they wanted to say to each other?
“Detective Lizzy cannot give you guys orders when we are here. She works with us, not you. You guys take orders from us, not Detective Lizzy.”
I overheard one of the officers from the headquarters saying to the others.
“But isn't Detective Lizzy the leader here? And she has the right to order anyone she wants?”
“Can you guys stop this shit!” I snapped at them, and they all turned towards me.
“Thank goodness you are here, Detective Lizzy. Like I was saying on the phone, these people…”
“Take him inside.” I ordered the other officers, and they escorted the guy inside.
“Detective Lizzy. So it was true that you gave them that order? What about us? You have never done this before.”
“Yes, but I want to start it now. And whoever isn't okay with it can find their way out of this place.” I pointed towards the gate, sneered at them, and walked away.
“Where is he?”
“Inside the guest room.”
“Good job. You can go back how? And do not argue again; when I need you, I will give you a call. Also, keep an eye on the thing I told you earlier.”
“Yes, Detective.”
They bowed their heads and hurried off.
“Detective Lizzy? I am scared. What did I do to be brought here?” The guy asked, panicking, the moment I entered the room.
“Calm down, dude, you did nothing wrong. And if you had done something wrong, you wouldn't be brought here. You would have been taken and locked in prison.”
I took a seat, facing him.
“Your friend, Alex, is locked up here.”
His eyes snapped wide in shock. “Alex? What did he do? Is this something between you two?”
“Dude! I would have locked him up when he divorced me, but I didn't because I only deal with those who are criminals.”
“So is Alex a criminal now? What did he say I did? I swear, Detective Lizzy, Alex, and I aren't into any illegal business. Alex is a greedy fellow, yes, but he isn't into any stupid thing that will send him to prison.”
So he trusts him? Good for them.
“It's not about Alex; it's about Noah. Noah Dominic of ND Empire. Alex said you guys went to the same college.”
“Oh, that guy?” he scoffed. “I know Noah a lot; everyone who went to that college knows him a lot. He was a bad guy, and he still is.”
Wow! Noah looks innocent. I can't believe this. Well, let's hear what he has to say.
“Alex said he was a gang leader at college, true?”
“True.”
Whoa!
“What else do you know about him?”
He leaned forward, fingers locked.
“A few months ago, the news came to us that Noah is involved in drug and human trafficking.”
