Chapter 38: Racetrack
Chapter 38: Racetrack
As they chatted, the conversation turned to racing, and Emily's interest was piqued.
She used to love going out to race cars and often went with Jack, but unfortunately, after she ran away from home for Adam, she never got involved with it again.
"Jack, I want to go racing."
"Sure thing, I'll take you to the track tonight and make sure you have a blast!"
Jack said with a smile, reaching out to ruffle Emily's hair. Emily beamed, feeling especially happy.
That evening, Jack took Emily straight out the door and headed to the racing track together.
Looking at the familiar surroundings, Emily's eyes lit up, and she even felt tears welling up.
She would start from here to find her old confident self again.
"Haven't been here in ages. I wonder if my driving skills have gotten rusty."
Emily said with a laugh. Jack reassured her, "Don't worry, even if you're not quite top-tier, you're definitely at master level."
"Jack, you're laying it on thick! Alright, let's hurry inside. Looks pretty crowded in there. If we don't move fast, we might not get the cars we want."
Emily pulled Jack inside, and Jack let her lead him. "Oh, almost forgot to tell you - this is Noah's racing track. After you marry him, you'll own more assets, including this track."
"Since you like it so much, why not ask him to let you manage it?"
Emily shook her head. "Forget it. These are just material things. I'm not with Noah for his money. That would be too shallow."
"I'm just looking out for you. But anyway, once you're married, what's his is yours, right? It'll be even easier for you to come here."
That made some sense, so Emily didn't argue further and deliberately pulled Jack forward, running freely.
Jack smiled, seeing the relaxed smile on Emily's face, and felt at ease.
At the racing track, even though night had fallen, the place was brightly lit.
On the track, various brightly colored, uniquely decorated race cars were roaring past, constantly making sharp, thunderous sounds.
On the viewing stands, many people were cheering enthusiastically, occasionally letting out excited screams for a car's burst of speed or overtaking maneuver.
"So lively."
Jack was also a bit nostalgic. After Emily left, he hadn't been here in a long time. Coming here today really brought back memories.
"Yeah, who knew young people's nightlife was so exciting these days."
Emily said excitedly. Watching the cars racing on the track, she couldn't wait to join in!
"Alright, let's go pick out cars. Look at you, your eyes are practically glued to those cars."
Jack smiled helplessly, but thought to himself that he should just buy Emily a race car as a birthday present. After all, she was his only sister, and he always wanted to make up for all the hardships she'd endured over the years.
Emily excitedly went with Jack to pick out cars and quickly chose one.
Emily selected a car that was entirely crimson red with dark gold patterns, giving it a proud appearance, like a phoenix about to spread its wings and soar.
Jack chose a plain black car, but with his good driving skills, he drifted it to a stop at the starting line, impressing quite a few spectators.
"Isn't that Vivian?" Out of the corner of her eye, Emily spotted Vivian not far away, currently leaning against a race car taking selfies with her phone, not noticing them.
"Probably here to take photos. Lots of people do that. Focus up, we're about to start!"
Jack quickly reminded her, and then with a roar, all the race cars shot forward together!
Several cars shot out like arrows from a bow, with Emily's red car leading the charge!
Emily's eyes sparkled as she pushed the car's speed nearly to its limit, swift as a dragon, her movements almost too fast to see.
"Oh my god! So cool!"
"Yeah, and the driver seems to be a woman. Can't believe she's driving better than those men!"
After taking a few photos, Vivian, who was editing them, heard the crowd's discussion. She looked up and was immediately shocked. "Emily, it's you again! Why do you keep haunting me!"
She was furious, then simply got into a car. But as soon as she started it, she veered off course, stopping in the middle of the road and nearly hitting a car next to her!
The driver in the nearby car cursed angrily, "Do you even know how to drive? If you can't drive, why come here to race? Are you crazy? Get out of here and stop blocking the way!"
"Bastard!"
Vivian angrily pounded the steering wheel, then saw Emily's car still showing off all kinds of advanced maneuvers, like she was deliberately showing off!
But for Emily, these were just movements ingrained in her bones. She was so familiar with them.
Even though she hadn't touched a race car in a long time, as soon as she sat in the driver's seat, she could easily recall the past and regain that old racing feeling.
She was radiant, her smile bright and brilliant, and combined with her smooth driving skills that left everyone in the dust, she instantly attracted many people's attention.
"Damn bitch! Coming to a place like this and showing off - clearly trying to seduce men again!"
Vivian stared venomously in Emily's direction, then Emily drifted to a stop at the finish line. The moment she got out of the car, the thunderous cheers nearly drowned out the entire track!
Emily laughed freely, her expression relaxed.
"Emily, what a coincidence! You're here racing too?"
Vivian walked over with a big smile. Emily's smile disappeared as she said coldly, "None of your business."
"Just happened to run into you, thought I'd say hi. Emily, your driving skills are amazing! How about racing against this gentleman next to me? What do you say? You're free anyway."
Next to Vivian, a tall man grinned, "Since Vivian asks, I'll play with you. But if you lose, don't blame me for being mean!"
Emily coldly refused, "Not interested!"
Vivian smiled with venom in her expression, "Emily, I never thought you could afford to come to places like this now. No wonder you latched onto Noah - you're really different! Too bad you're just Noah's plaything!"
