Chapter 37: Only Cherish It After Losing It

Chapter 37: Only Cherish It After Losing It

Adam stumbled home and immediately poured himself a drink, gulping it down.

"Emily, what gives you the right to leave me?"

He slumped onto the sofa, feeling utterly lost, overwhelmed by a sense of despair he'd never felt before.

He refused to believe Emily would leave him, had never even considered the possibility.

After all, Emily loved him so much, and had always taken such good care of him.

How could she bear to leave?

"Emily, how dare you?"

He took another swig, then just started chugging straight from the bottle.

Vivian watched coldly, suddenly feeling terrible inside.

She'd done everything she could to get close to him, but still couldn't win his heart. She was completely devoted to Adam too, but he just didn't see it - his eyes and heart only had room for Emily.

She couldn't understand it. Why? What did Emily have that she didn't?

"Adam, have some water."

Vivian came downstairs with a glass of water and rushed to Adam's side, dropping a white pill into it. It dissolved instantly.

It didn't matter. Even if she couldn't have Adam's heart, as long as she had him, had the Blake family's wealth and status, wasn't that enough?

All her efforts chasing after Adam - wasn't it all for the Blake family's money anyway?

Adam was already pretty drunk. He took the glass and downed it in one gulp, which made him feel a bit better.

Vivian didn't rush off, just stayed there keeping Adam company.

"Adam, you should drink less, or your stomach's going to hurt."

Vivian couldn't help but say something, but Adam wouldn't listen and kept drinking.

"Stop drinking! You've had way too much already!"

After a while, Vivian really couldn't take it anymore. She reached out to grab the bottle away, but Adam angrily turned around and yelled, "Mind your own business! Who do you think you are!"

But when he turned around, he saw Emily's face!

His eyes went wide, staring at the woman in front of him in disbelief. Then he eagerly reached out to touch her face. "Is it really you? Emily, I'm not dreaming, am I?"

Vivian let Adam touch her, a smile playing on her lips. "You're not seeing things. It's me, Adam. I'm back."

"I missed you so much. Don't ever leave me again, okay?"

Adam hugged Vivian tightly, then couldn't help but kiss her.

Vivian hugged him back, letting him call out Emily's name while kissing her lips.

"Emily, you think you can compete with me? Dream on! I don't care what you're thinking, you can forget about having Adam. He's meant to be mine!"

Vivian thought darkly to herself, then Adam pushed her down onto the sofa.

At the Hart Manor, Emily was watching a movie, about to wash up and go to bed, when she suddenly got an email.

She opened it curiously, and it was actually a selfie of Vivian and Adam in bed!

The image was pretty explicit - both of them naked, clearly having sex.

"Disgusting. What's Vivian's problem?"

Emily was annoyed. Obviously this was that idiot Vivian's doing.

Was she trying to gross her out? Probably. And honestly, Vivian had succeeded - it was pretty disgusting.

"These two are perfect for each other - equally shameless. But could they please stop bothering me?"

Emily's face was cold. She was really fed up.

But then she thought the photos might be useful, so she backed them up and didn't bother with it anymore.

The next morning, Emily told Jack about it. He was just as speechless. "Does Vivian actually think this would make you angry? Honestly, it seems more like she's trying to show off to you."

"Seriously? With such a cheap trick and such a disgusting man, she thinks I'd be jealous of her?"

Emily was at a loss for words. Did Vivian still think she was the same old Emily who just took everything lying down and kept quiet?

Though to be fair, knowing those two, the old her probably would have reacted strongly to this, but wouldn't have dared confront Adam about it, just bottled everything up inside.

"Whatever, let them be. I really don't want to hear about it or see it. It's just gross." Emily rubbed the goosebumps on her arms. She'd never seen such disgusting people.

"Like you said, just keep a backup and forget about them. Don't dirty your eyes with this stuff."

Emily snorted. "Of course not. To me, they're just two idiots - pathetic and disgusting."

"Good that you're not bothered by it. Oh, by the way, Mom and Dad have been wanting me to ask you - do you have any plans for the future? They're saying if you want to work, or get some experience at the company, that's totally fine."

Emily paused. She actually hadn't thought about this yet.

When she was with Adam, he wouldn't let her work at all. He claimed he could take care of her, but really, he was making her gradually disconnect from society, turning her into a complete outsider.

Everything outside became more and more unfamiliar to her. She even forgot how to talk to people when she went out. That's what Adam wanted - to keep her completely under his control.

She hated that feeling, but back then she had no way to break free.

"Let me think about it. I'm going to marry Noah soon, and I don't know if he'll be okay with me working. If possible, I'd like to be my own boss and build my own career."

Jack nodded approvingly. "That's my sister! You've got ambition! Don't worry, whatever you want to do, Mom, Dad and I will support you no matter what. As for Noah, don't worry about him - you've got us."

Emily felt warm inside, but also a bit amused. "When you put it that way, I actually feel kind of guilty. And I'm going to be with Noah for so many years, I'd still like to respect his opinion."

"Fine, you two can work that out later. I trust he's not that kind of person. He'll respect you too."

Jack reassured her, while thinking to himself that if Noah didn't behave, he wouldn't care about their friendship - he'd beat him up if he had to!

Emily smiled. She believed in Noah too. She had a feeling that this time she wouldn't repeat her mistakes, that she'd finally found a truly good man.

"How about this - tonight I'll take you out to have some fun. It's too boring staying home all the time. Let's go out tonight!"
