Chapter 35: Marry No One but Her

Chapter 35: Marry No One but Her

"Adam?"

She murmured the name, feeling strangely familiar with it. After thinking for a moment, she remembered—wasn't Adam the guy who had that messy thing going on with Emily?

"Who's that person?"

She glanced sideways, and the person next to her immediately stepped forward, politely introducing, "Mrs. Stone, are you referring to that woman from the Green family? Her name is Nola. She has a daughter called Vivian who seems to have gotten involved with Adam from the Blake family."

Eileen Stone nodded slightly, feeling a chill in her heart.

Birds of a feather flock together—none of them were any good.

She'd heard some recent rumors. No choice really—her son Noah was already engaged to Emily, and they were about to announce it officially, so naturally she'd been paying more attention to matters concerning her future daughter-in-law.

Who would have thought that digging into this would uncover some pretty serious stuff.

Emily had actually run away from home for Adam before, and Adam wasn't a good guy either—he'd been fooling around with that Vivian from the Green family behind the scenes, completely breaking Emily's heart.

The recent rumors about Emily were also that fake bitch Vivian's doing. These tricks seemed like they could easily destroy someone, but to a wise person like her, they were nothing special.

Still, these rumors would affect Emily's reputation to some extent. She sighed. She already had some reservations about Emily, and now those thoughts were just getting stronger.

"Let's go."

She wasn't interested in gossip. If it weren't for Noah, she wouldn't waste time and energy investigating these things.

The people around her didn't understand but didn't dare ask more questions, quietly following her as she left.

When Eileen got home, Noah happened to be there too. He looked up at Eileen and greeted her, "Mom, you're back."

"Yes, why didn't you go to the office today?"

Eileen smiled gently. Noah had always been her pride.

But she also had the common problem of regular parents—always wanting to interfere in Noah's love life.

There were so many good choices to pick from, so many excellent girls in this world, all kinds of elegant and beautiful daughters from wealthy families—why did it have to be Emily?

That's what she thought, so she just asked directly.

"Noah, I want to talk to you. I think that Emily from the Hart family isn't really right for you. Can you give her up? We can pick a more suitable fiancée for you. What do you think?"

Eileen chose her words carefully, trying not to make Noah feel pressured.

She wasn't the type of mother who forced her children to obey, but she wanted to look out for Noah and try to give him some appropriate guidance.

"Impossible."

Noah didn't even think about it before refusing directly, his voice as cold as ever, with a tone of finality.

Eileen opened her mouth, "Is that Emily really that great? Why are you so set on her?"

She really couldn't understand. So many women liked Noah, and Emily had liked another man before—didn't Noah mind at all?

"Mom, you don't need to say more." Noah raised his head, looking directly at Eileen. "This is my decision, and I've made up my mind. It won't change. She's the only woman I want to marry in this lifetime."

"If not her, I don't want anyone."

Eileen sighed. She'd known this would be the result all along—why waste the effort?

"Fine, fine, fine. You're always so stubborn. I don't know who you take after." Eileen waved her hand weakly. She'd only mentioned it casually and hadn't really expected to persuade Noah.

"Did you hear something from someone?"

Noah was sharp enough to immediately sense something was wrong.

Eileen wasn't the type to be prejudiced against people. The only possibility was that someone had said something to her, making her biased against Emily!

"It's nothing much, I just ran into Vivian's mother."

Eileen hesitated but still told him about it. "I think that Adam and that Vivian around him are no good. They might try to harm Emily."

"Don't worry. Even though I'm not very fond of her, as long as you like her, I'll support you unconditionally. Emily was with Adam before, but if you don't mind, I have nothing to say. Just since you've already decided to choose her, don't change your mind easily."

"I know, thanks Mom. I'll protect her."

Noah said seriously. With this promise, Eileen had nothing more to say.

Noah had completely set his heart on Emily. All the decisions he'd made since childhood, he usually followed through on. He'd always been very determined and didn't need others telling him what to do.

That being the case, why should she rack her brains trying to influence Noah's decision?

Eileen soon left, but Noah didn't rush off. Instead, he called Emily.

Since that impulsive kiss before, he still hadn't contacted her, but he wanted to see her and slowly improve the bad impression he'd made on her.

"What's up?"

"Nothing much. Are you free tonight? I'd like to take you out to dinner and talk."

"Sure! I'll come pick you up then."

Emily agreed readily. Although that previous incident had made her a bit uncomfortable too, being shy and awkward would only make people misunderstand or overthink things.

Actually, she didn't dislike Noah's closeness or his sudden move, so she figured she probably had feelings for Noah too.

Rather than being all shy and evasive, better to be straightforward.

"Okay, I'll wait for you."

Noah's lips curved up, his mood completely lifting.

He knew he couldn't keep up the aloof image for long. But what could he do—could acting aloof help him win over his wife? Obviously not.

After settling this, he hurried upstairs to think about what to wear tonight.

This really wasn't like him. But people in love, men and women alike, were probably all this naive.

……

That evening, Emily grabbed her bag, getting ready to go out.

"Where are you going? All sneaky like that—you're not doing something shady, are you?"

Jack suddenly spoke from the living room, startling Emily!

"What's wrong with you, Jack? Not sleeping at night and scaring people like this."

Emily was quite frightened. After recovering, she couldn't help complaining angrily.
