Chapter 79 She Can’t Do More Than This!
Chapter Eighty
The tension in the air was palpable. It was so thick it could be sliced through with a knife.
Nathan and Monica wondered what on earth was going on. She already apologized but yet Lucian refused to forgive her.
What else does he want her to do again?
Kneel before Aria? Over her dead body!
She glared at Aria, who returned her look squarely.
Aria did not really care about Monica and her worry at that moment. She absolutely would love for Monica to be fired.
The Graves company headquarters was a place she had to make use of to be able to get closer to her revenge.
It would be perfect if Monica and her husband were not there ruining things for her at every turn. Aria knew they would definitely try to do something stupid like that.
Not that she was afraid of them. It’s just that time is of the essence and she needed to get things moving before Kurt did.
She needed to take back control of the Vaughn Empire.
“Aria.” Madam Graves called suddenly, startling her.
She turned towards her and realized that everyone was staring at her.
“Aria, it’s all up to you now.” Madam Graves uttered in a tired voice, “I know Monica was being foolish a while ago but you’re smart Aria, and you’re a kindhearted person. I don’t think Lucian will let this go if you don’t step in, my love.”
Monica suddenly grabbed Aria’s hand, “Aria, I’m sorry. I’m sorry okay?” She uttered, in a genuine manner, “Please, I’d still like to work. I’d still like to improve and make the Graves family better.”
“No you don’t,” Aria thought as she pulled her hand back, disgusted by Monica’s lies.
Monica let go of her hand, seething internally.
“This is just for the plan,” she reminds herself over and over again, “This is just for the plan.”
If they didn’t had their plan, she would never have stopped so low as to beg this woman to speak on her matter.
The silence stretched and the tension increased. Aria rolled her eyes and straightened up, annoyed by the position that she was in suddenly.
“Don’t worry, Aria,” Lucian suddenly uttered. He turned to Aria, his eyes soft, “You don’t have to be pressured. You don’t have to say anything if you don’t want to.”
Aria gave him a wide smile, completely satisfied with Lucian’s decision. Monica can go to blazes for all she cared.
Her husband just assured her that she did not need to feel pressured with their fake apology.
With that, Lucian took her hand and strolled from the room, heading towards the grand staircase, “This matter ends here. Monica Hank, I don’t ever want to see you in the office from today!”
This declaration left Monica and Nathan speechless, but the Chairman and Madam Graves were just a bit sorry for them.
“See, that’s why you should have watched your mouth before saying anything,” the Chairman uttered, shaking his head sadly, “Well, that’s that. If you still want to work, you’d have to convince Lucian.”
“Mother! Father! That’s unfair!” Monica wailed, her beautiful face squeezed with tears.
Madam Graves patted her hand, “Relax dear, we can get you to work somewhere else apart from the Headquarters,” she uttered.
Monica pulled away, “I don’t want to work in a mere branch or subsidiary!” She yelled, “I am a daughter of the Hank family too. Do you think they will just let this lying down if I’m disrespected this way?”
Monica was obviously hanging on straws at the moment, because her Hank family is not better than the Graves family.
As expected the Chairman scoffed, “Even if your Hank family were involved, if Lucian doesn’t allow it, then it’s not going to be.” He uttered, then smiled blandly at her, “why not call them? Maybe they can be able to convince him?”
Monica immediately knew that the Chairman was mocking her, and she stomped her feet on the ground like a spoilt child while wailing, “Father!”
This act earned her disapproving looks from her husband.
“Monica, you still haven’t learnt your lesson?!” He yelled back at her, then grabbed her hand and marched right off from the presence of the Chairman and Madam Graves without even greeting them.
“Let them go,” The Chairman uttered when Madam Graves was offended and wanted to go after them, “They brought this upon themselves.”
Nathan dragged Monica to the west wing of the house allocated to them. As soon as they got to their living room, he dropped her hand and gave her a hard slap.
Monica was shocked and her face was nearly numb with the pain but the next second later, she retaliated with a slap of her own, nearly knocking Nathan’s glasses from his face.
“Are you out of your mind?! How dare you hit me?!” She screamed at him, her entire body shaking with fury.
“Because you’ve been acting so stupid all evening!” Nathan yelled back, the veins on his head almost bulging out from anger, “how could you think of giving Lucian a leverage to get rid of you?!”
“I didn’t know, Okay?” Monica yelled back, “I was just so pissed that he was taking care of Aria Beaumont so much. And so what?! Nathan, can’t you see how they all favour her, and look down us?!” She walked towards her husband, “You’ve got to do something, you hear me?!”
“Aria Beaumont!” Nathan uttered through gritted teeth, “Everything started to go wrong ever since she appeared! Why?!”
Monica turned away from him, her eyes flashing with anger, “At this rate, don’t you think it’s better to get rid of her first,” she retorted, “This would not have been happening if you’d just ensured Lucian was dead all along. But no, you had to keep him like a doll for years and now, see what’s happening!”
“Don’t worry,” Nathan uttered straightening up, “This is nothing. Aria Beaumont will never amount to much in the headquarters. I’ll make sure of that!”
