Chapter 80 I Want You To Lay Low!
Chapter Eighty-One
“She will never amount to much at the headquarters,” Nathan uttered fiercely, “I’ll make sure of that.”
Monica’s face lit up at that statement, and her lips curved into a malicious smile.
Yes, that’s the spirit.
Nathan was someone who does not give up easily. Although he was really stupid when he kept Lucian alive all these years, at least he had the sense to set things right.
He was not weak, he was just merely observing his opponent.
She walked over to her husband and laid her head on his shoulders, while caressing his arms up and down.
“Honey, what are we going to do about my position at the office?” She uttered in a small, petulant voice, “Will you really let Lucian fire me?”
Nathan gritted his teeth in anger but it was not directed at Monica. He was pissed at the fact that Lucian still had such power over him at the company.
It felt like all he’d been doing for three years was a big waste. All his plans had come back full cycle to haunt him.
And it was all because of Aria.
When he’d asked for more information on Aria, he found that there was nothing remarkable about her. She had just been a simple country girl who worked hard at raising pigs.
How can she come to the city and transform into such a remarkable young woman in such a short time?
“Honey?” Monica called once more, looking up at him in impatience, “I was talking to you. What were you thinking about?”
Nathan shook his head, holding Monica by her shoulders, “We’ll have to wait until Lucian’s temper goes down,” he advised, “But for now, you’re going to lay low and do all I tell you, you hear me?”
Monica frowned, displeased with the situation and how things were going to be from then on.
She had thought that Nathan would help her to continue to pester Lucian, making sure that he was pressured enough to give her back her position at the company.
But here she was, being instructed to lay low, while Nathan worked the scene from the big stage?
Impossible!
She eyed Nathan suspiciously.
What if her bull headed husband makes a mistake and their plans go awry?
She could not trust Nathan to work alone in the office. He always cowered whenever he faced Lucian, and Monica hated it.
When Lucian had been in a coma, they had managed to keep the working environment at the headquarters under their thumbs and their power.
They had always been together in the office, and had managed to work well together to their advantage.
But now, he wanted her to sit her ass anyone while she dwiddled with her thumb?
That ridiculous!
She quickly stepped back, crossing her arms defiantly, “I don’t think that would work, dear husband.” She retorted, “I don’t trust you enough to leave you alone at the office.”
Nathan stepped back, his face hardening, “That’s your problem.” He replied coolly, “But you brought this upon yourself, so until I find a way to sort it out, you stay fucking low!”
With that, he turned on his heel and strode out of the room, leaving Monica staring after him, her fists clenched in rage.
The next week, Aria resumed work in the Graves Empire Headquarters.
The headquarters was similar to that of the Vaughn Empire in size but the Graves Empire was more aesthetically pleasing to the eyes, from its state of the art building designs and the minimalist colors around the office.
It was just the way Aria preferred it.
She walked straight into the company , her heels clicking on the marble floor as she made her way across the lobby. She was dressed in the first outfit she had chosen that day at the mall.
A tailored black pantsuit with a structured blazer, that oozed with confidence and power. The blazer had sharp lapels and was fitted to her figure like a second skin.
Underneath was a minimalist black top with a modest neckline that gave her a polished look. The trousers are straight-cut and high-waisted, falling cleanly from the hips to create a long, streamlined line.
Her black hair was styled to fall over one shoulder in waves, and she held her head high as she walked, drawing stares from the employees around.
She was about to walk past the front desk when she was stopped.
“Good morning ma’am. How may we help you?” The lady at the front desk flashed a pretentious smile at Aria.
Aria stopped and arched an eyebrow at the woman, “Are you talking to me?”
The young lady smiled once more, her eyes roving over Aria before she continued, “May we know you and your business here at the headquarters?”
Aria walked over to the desk and the lady placed her hand on her keyboard, poised to start typing.
Aria gave her a cool gaze, “Aria Beaumont Graves.”
“Aria Beaumont Gra…” the lady started typing then she stopped and went a little bit pale, looking up at Aria with eyes wide with shock.
Suddenly, another young lady ran up to the front desk, “Mrs Graves, I’m so sorry. I should have been here to greet you. I’m so sorry.” She extended her hand towards Aria, “I’m Debra, your assistant.”
Aria looked at the young woman before her. Debra was as tall as her and was dressed in a sharp tailored suit. Even though she looked harried, she was still looking more professional than the front desk lady to Aria.
The lady behind the desk opened her mouth in shock, “Mrs Graves?!”she repeated incredulously.
Debra looked at the front desk lady , then back at Aria, “Is anything the problem?”
The front desk lady quickly shook her head, lowering her eye in the utmost respect, “No ma’am, there’s nothing the matter.” She smiled at Aria and gestured towards the elevator, “You’re free to go, ma’am. Welcome to the Graves Empire Headquarters.”
Aria gave her a smile, which sent chills running down the lady’s spine.“Of course, I look forward to our time together.”
