Chapter 78 Humiliating Payment!
Chapter Seventy-Nine
Nathan gritted his teeth in anger and suddenly grabbed his wife’s hand.
He bowed in apology, “I’m so sorry, Father. Mother.” He uttered with a bright smile on his face, “Monica has just been under the weather for a while, so please do not take what she says to heart.”
He turned to Lucian, “Please Lucian, do not worry about anything she said a while ago. Of course Monica wants to work, right Monica?”
Monica could not say anything. She stood there breathing hard, her chest heaving and her eyes bright with unshed tears.
She glared at Aria, all while Nathan was trying to lighten the situation.
Aria scoffed, “She does not look like someone who takes correction.” She uttered, arching a delicate eyebrow at Nathan, “I’m sure it would do her good to not come into the office.”
Nathan smiled although his eyes darkened with anger, “Of course not, Aria,” he said tightly, “Monica is someone who has more experience in the office. I think it would be good for her to come into the office with you.”
Aria scoffed.
Nathan’s attitude seemed to have changed considerably towards her. When she had been newly married into the Graves family, she had been treated badly by both Nathan and Monica.
But now, Nathan had a big ass smile on his face and he was being all warm and supportive.
Was that because Lucian was right there with her?
Surely he would not be able to say anything insulting to her with Lucian right there with her.
Or was he just genuinely scared his wife would not be allowed into the company to work so he has to beg for her?
However, something told her Nathan was not being sincere with his smile and his gestures.
She eyed him suspiciously as Nathan quickly turned to Monica , jerking his wife’s hand softly forward, “Monica, apologize to Mother and Father now.” He uttered, “And say you will support Aria in the office from now on.”
Monica glared at him, “What did you say?” She hissed.
Nathan smiled tightly then leaned down to say in her ear, “You had better behave,” he said in a fierce whisper, “Do you want to see all our plans ruined?!”
Monica was shaking so bad that she had to clench her dress to keep herself steady.
Nathan straightened up and smiled at the others. They were all waiting for Monica to apologize, and they gave her stern looks, as they waited.
Monica bit the inside of her gum, then closed her eyes. She took a deep breath, preparing herself for what she thought was the most humiliating moment of her life.
Why does she have to do this, apologizing to a country bum like Aria Beaumont? She was Monica Hanks, of the Hank Empire. Her family was of higher status than that of the Beaumont family and she was even in a higher level in everything than Aria.
So why was she the one who have to apologize? Why was Aria, this country bitch the one who had to marry someone like Lucian Graves? Lucian Graves, the eldest son of the Graves family who was cold but now doted on her?! Why was Aria the one who had the favour of the entire Graves family?!
Monica sucked in a deep breath once more and tried hard to rein in her anger.
She gave Nathan a blazing look once more.
If his interests were not similar to hers, she would have dumped his ass a long time ago.
But if he managed to take over the Graves Empire, then she would be able to Lord it over this country bitch and send her back to where she came from, the country dump.
So she sucked in a deep breath, clasped her hands together in front of her and lowered her eyes, “I’m sorry, Mother. Father.” She uttered tightly then swallowed hard, “I’m sorry, Aria.”
“There!” Nathan uttered happily, clasping his hands in delight, “Mother. Father. Monica apologized. I hope you find it in your heart to forgive her.”
The Chairman cleared his throat ominously and was about to say something when Lucian interrupted.
“You speak like we are being unfair to her,” Lucian uttered dryly, “She was the one who decided to take that line of action all by herself. What’s wrong if we decide to just go with it. After all…” he looked at Monica, “…She’s not much help at the company.”
Nathan gritted his teeth but still managed to put on a smile, “Lucian, I told you. It was a mistake on her part.”
“Mistakes do have consequences,” Lucian declared coldly, “She’ll have to pay the price for that mistake.” His eyes turned cold, “I don’t want to see her at the headquarters anymore. You’re fired effective immediately.”
Monica’s eyes widened and she turned to Nathan, panicking.
She could not leave the headquarters. She needed to be in on everything so that she knows their plans would eventually succeed!
Lucian can’t do this to her right now!
Nathan was also at a loss to do and he could only clench his fists and glare at Lucian angrily.
After sometime, he wrenched his glare away and it landed on Monica.
“Damn it, why did I marry such a stupid woman as this? All of these would not have happened if she’d just kept her mouth shut and behaved well”
“Eii, Lucian that’s enough,” Madam Graves uttered, her heart softening at the sight of Monica who was already almost in tears, “It seems like Monica is repentant though. Let’s just stop.”
“Yes Lucian, you’re such a hard man,” the Chairman answered as well, clicking his tongue. He turned to face Monica and his voice turned stern, “And you, enough with the uncouth behavior. You’re pardoned. If you do well, the Graves family will forget this ever happened.”
Lucian did not say anything. He only glared at Monica to the point that she felt the ground would open up and swallow her.
“You dare to bully my woman?!” He thought, his eyes darkening with rage, “I’ll make sure you get that humiliation a hundred times over!”
