Chapter 23 The Plot

Chapter 23 The Plot

Nathan listened with growing anger.

When the doctor finished speaking, he grabbed a vase from off a nearby tables and smashed it against the wall in anger.

“Rarhh!” He yelled in outrage, his outburst only making the Doctor even more scared.

He prayed for his life earnestly, and tried hard not to pee his pants.

Nathan Graves was an unhinged psychopath.

If he could do what he did to his own step brother, the doctor knew that his life was hanging by a very thin thread.

Nathan stood breathing hard after he smashed the vase. It was Monica Graves who spoke up.

“So, are you trying to say that she has some kind of healing powers?” She sneered, “You should have your head checked, Doctor Adams, she’s just a country bumpkin!”

Nathan turned back to them, pointing viciously at the doctor, “I can’t believe I trusted you with such an important task!” He spat out harshly, “All you had to do was give him the serum every day in the correct doses! You had one job!”

The doctor was confused as hell.

He had one job: to administer the serum.

And he did administer the serum everyday. How else had Lucian been in a coma all this while?

But Nathan was not done, “But you say Aria Graves woke him up?” He laughed in disbelief, then snarled at the man, “You must have given him the wrong dosage, right?! It’s your own freaking fault!”

This made the doctor even more confused and bitter.

The serum was delivered to him by Nathan himself, and it came in the right dosage which he administered that way.

There was no way he would have given the wrong one when it was already packaged like that.

He explained this to Nathan and Monica bitterly.

The couple stopped , thinking hard about what the doctor had just said.

Indeed, Nathan had been the one to get the drum and supply it to the doctor every week.

It was very hard to get the medicinal component which the serum contained, and it costs a hell of a price.

Nathan closed his eyes in anguish as he recalled the millions of dollars he’d spent on getting those serums.

“All that huge sum of money wasted for nothing,” he muttered to himself bitterly.

He had really been banking on the serum. And now, everything had been returned back to square one.

Lucian was awake and the serum was wasted, while he was back in the position that he was at first.

The one who will never have anything in the Graves Empire.

He inhaled deeply, with his eyes closed.

Monica stood by his side, her eyes squinted in deep thought, “It’s exactly as the doctor had said, Nathan.” She said to her husband, “The serum comes in its correct dosage. Remember that we decided to give him the serum in just those amounts?”

Nathan remembered and he gritted his teeth in regret now.

He had decided to give Lucian only little amounts of the serum from time to time.

This way, Lucian would not die off but would remain useless on the bed for the rest of his life.

That was his punishment to his big step-brother.

To become useless.

All his life, ever since he’d been dumped in the Graves mansion by his mother, he’d known that he’d never measure up to the real heir of the Empire, Lucian Graves.

He’d followed Lucian around for the first few days that he’d arrived, calling him “big brother” and trying hard to be close to him.

After five days, Lucian had stopped and looked at him with those eyes which had been cold from birth.

“You…” he’d said, “…go back to your house.”

Those words had shattered Nathan. He suddenly realized that he would never be thought of as a son of the Graves Empire.

Infact, this was not his home.

Lucian thinks he has some other home somewhere else. Or rather, he refuses to share his home with him.

Nathan’s hands clenched into hard fists as he recalled all this.

He recalled all the favors Lucian had received all because he was the rightful heir.

He recalled all the love that Madam Graves had showered on him all because he was her own son.

He recalled how his father always looked on Lucian with pride but then, he was only looked at with regret and dissatisfaction.

No matter how hard he tried, he would never measure up to Lucian’s glory. He knew this.

And he knew the only way to come out of Lucian’s shadow was to make him gone.

Perhaps then, the Chairman would look on him with favour. And he would inherit the empire in Lucian’s place.

Nathan absolutely believed he could be the Chairman of Graves empire.

If Lucian can do it, so can he. He’d always thought this.

But then, Lucian has to go first.

If Lucian was gone, then he would be able to shine without any restriction.

He was not able to shine in business, but somehow he was as cunny and crafty as he could be when it came to thinking up evil.

He’d orchestrated the accident perfectly, but was disappointed when he received news that Lucian had not died.

The tough bastard.

How can he not die even after the car tumbled down that hill and even exploded?

He never knew he hated Lucian as much as he did until he received news that he was still alive.

Nathan had screamed in rage and rent his clothes apart, smashing everything in sight in fury.

He’d only calmed down and assessed the situation only after Monica spoke to him.

“You fool, he’s survived the accident but he’s not awake yet! Stop acting so unhinged and think up something else!” She’d screamed at him, “If we don’t ever get to inherit Graves Empire because of your carelessness, I swear I will never forgive you.”

Nathan had clenched his fists in anger and determination, as he stood in the upheaval of his living room, his clothes torn and his eyes wild.

“That will never happen!” He growled, “He survived the accident, but I will make sure he doesn’t live to tell the tale.”
