Chapter 22 The Hindrance
Chapter Twenty-Two
Madam Graves eyes widened in delight and she clasped her hands over her mouth to keep from squealing.
“Thank you so much, Aria!” She breathed in relief, “I knew you could do it.”
Aria gave her a nervous smile.
She had not even done the job, yet here was Madam Graves saying she knew she could do it.
“Well, I guess it won’t be so hard.” She thought to herself, “I just have to conjure up the non-existent magical powers I have or get a really good doctor.”
The latter was actually the best choice.
As the two women sat and discussed, they did not notice a figure watching them from the landing of the staircase high above them.
Doctor Adams clenched his fists hard as he listened to the conversation between Aria and Madam Graves.
He could not believe that she was being asked to take care of Lucian rehabilitation processes.
“Miracle worker. Hmph!”
He snorted in disgust, “What a joke!”
He turned on his heel and walked quietly down the other hall way to his left, that led to the West wing of the house.
This was the section of the mansion that was occupied by Nathan and Monica. The couple had no children yet, so it was just them alone in the huge wing.
Nathan had been pacing about his living room, while Monica stood by the window, her fur coat wrapped around her.
She was in deep thought.
They both looked like there was a serious crisis going on, and were desperately waiting on a savior
As soon as the door opened and the doctor stepped in, they both rushed towards him in agitation.
“You! Doctor Adams, how could this happen?!” Nathan screamed at the doctor, “How on earth was she able to wake Lucian up?!”
“After everything we’ve done for you, you dare to trick us and make away with our money?!” Monica shot at the doctor as well, taking menacing steps towards him.
The doctor raised his hands in alarm, stepping back in fear.
He fell to his knees before them, “I’m so sorry, sir! Madam! I…I really don’t know what happened.” He sputtered, “I assure you, I was giving him the serum every single day. He…he was not supposed to wake up!”
“He was not supposed to wake up so why the hell is he awake?!” Nathan yelled at him through gritted teeth.
As he spoke, he kicked the doctor viciously and the man tumbled to the ground, groaning in pain.
“You deserve to be beaten to death!” Monica spat out in disgust, then held her head as she loaned in anguish, “I can’t believe our plans have been ruined completely because of you!”
The doctor scrambled to his feet once more, trembling all over as he pleaded for his life.
Three years ago, he had been the family doctor for the Graves family. When Lucian had that accident and was rushed to the hospital, he had a fifty percent chance of recovering fully.
The family had moved him home and requested for Doctor Adams services, so they could better watch him until he became stable.
As well as keep the public eye away from their private business.
Lucian was expected to wake up, any day from then.
But one day, while he took care of Lucian’s business, he’d been approached by Nathan and Monica Graves.
“Lucian has a fifty percent chance of waking up soon,” Nathan had said back then, his smile as devilish as it could ever be, “I want you to make it Zero.”
He had been handed a serum that he administered to Lucian’s drip every single day for three years, and as time went on, Lucian continued to sleep.
It was a very risky thing to do especially with the family around. Madam Graves always came to check up on Lucian, and when he did not wake up after a few days, he only had to tell her that her son’s condition became worse and he had relapsed.
Without any knowledge of medicine, and because he was the family doctor whom they trusted fully for his brilliance, they continued to let him watch over Lucian.
That morning, he’d also carefully administered the serum to Lucian, pushing him further into his sleep.
He had never been so shocked in his life as when they all burst into the room to find Lucian awake.
Lucian’s blue-green eyes had locked into his, and he’d felt a chill run down his back at the sight.
Involuntarily, he’d looked away, as if in fear of Lucian finding out something.
But what would he know?
Even now, as he knelt far away from
Lucian Graves room, he could still feel his cold stare on him and those haunting eyes flashed in his head.
He shook his head to clear out those thoughts just as Nathan started speaking.
“You will do everything you can to return him back to his vegetative state,” he snarled, his eyes looking every evil indeed behind his glasses, “You will not ruin my plans any longer, do you hear me?”
The doctor nodded, showing his head low, “Yes sir, I will try my best sir but…” he stopped short, unsure of whether he should say this in front of Nathan.
Nathan stopped and glared at the man at his feet, “But what? Spit it out!”
“But what about Aria Graves?”
Nathan cocked his head to the side, anger surging through him as he heard that name. He stepped towards the doctor once more and the man scooted backwards in fear.
“Stay where you are, you fool,” Nathan bathed at him and he froze on the spot. He was trekking as he looked up at Nathan who was breathing hard in anger at that moment.
“What about her?” He asked through gritted teeth.
“Well, I’m sure I did give Lucian the serum this morning.” The doctor spoke up, his eyes wet with tears, “it was the same that I’ve been giving to him for the last three years that kept him in a coma. But Aria Graves ruined everything. I’m afraid, she is the hindrance to your plans, Master Nathan.”
