Chapter 21 I Will Do Whatever It Takes!
Chapter Twenty-One
Aria froze, wondering how Madam Graves knew what had been bothering her.
She stared at the woman wide eyed, “H…how did you know about that?”
Madam Graves laughed once more, then took hold of Aria’s hand and led her down the grand stairway to the living room.
“Your mother and I were very close back then.” She started as she led Aria to a couch, “Such a lovely soul, she was.”
Aria frowned, her eyes narrowed slightly as she tried to keep up with what Madam Graves was tweaking about.
Madam Graves had been close to her mother, Kathryn Vaughn?
But Kathryn Vaughn had lived most of her life overseas with her husband, Duke Vaughn.
This was why the company and the Empire had been handed to Elara, and she had been able to handle everything capably at such a young age.
She could not resist asking the question, “Madam Graves, you were close with my mother?”
Madam Graves motioned for a maid to serve them tea, and also go up the stairwell to get the trolley which was left up there.
She smiled fondly at Aria, “You silly thing, how did you think the betrothal was arranged?”
Aria stared for a minute more before it clicked.
Oh.
She was talking about Sandra Beaumont, Aria Beaumont’s mother.
“Oh,” she muttered, trying to let her disappointment less evident in her tone, “That’s…that’s really nice.”
Madam Graves nodded, unaware of Aria’s detachment from the conversation.
“It was a pity that she died so early though.” She continued, sipping her tea gently she looked over at Aria with regret in her eyes, “I’m sorry we were not able to protect you when you went to the countryside, Aria. Your father…is a very hard hearted man.”
Aria was silent, unsure of what to say to that.
Her head was down as her fists clenched around her dress and she bit her lips in thought.
Madam Graves had claimed that she was a very close friend to Sandra Beaumont, Aria’s mother.
They had even arranged a marriage between the eldest children of the families.
Yet, they could not protect her when she was being thrown away to the country side, without proper education and upbringing.
Elara had no memories of Aria’s life but she knew it must have been very torturous for the young girl to grow up in such conditions, when she was supposed to be the young lady of the Beaumont family.
And the Graves Family had instead switched the bride from Aria to Selena Beaumont.
It did not seem like a very loyal move to Elara, especially as they allowed her to be married to Lucian when he was still paralyzed.
These thoughts made her kept mum on the situation.
As a matter of fact, there was nothing she could do about what had already happened.
But she could change the present.
Aria was already married to Lucian now, but fortunately, it was her, Elara Vaughn, who was running the show.
Elara hated any unfair and unjust situation with every fiber of her being.
She really did not like Aria’s position in society and in the Beaumont Family.
“I will make sure I make her as exquisite as possible,” she muttered to herself, “Aria Beaumont would be getting back everything that belongs to her.” She glanced at Madam Graves surreptitiously through her lashes, “And I will be making use of the Graves fortune to do that. I am sorry, Madam Graves, but consider that as payment for abandoning your late friend’s daughter.”
She would also be getting revenge on Kurt Eugene and Vera Hale.
Killing two birds with one stone.
Now, that’s more like it.
Madam Graves sighed once more, “I really hope Lucian would cooperate with his rehabilitation.” She said, “It’s the chairman’s birthday in a few weeks. It would be nice if he stepped back into society then.”
Aria tilted her head, uncertainly, “A few weeks?” She asked worriedly, “Lucian had been bedridden for three years. His muscles and limbs are extremely weak. Do you think that would be possible in a few weeks?”
Madam Graves reached for her hand and clasped it in hers, “Of course it’s possible,” she said wistfully, “Anything is possible with our Graves family miracle worker.”
Aria nearly choked on her tea.
What the hell?
She laughed nervously, “Mother, why do you believe in me so much? I don’t know if I can do that.”
Madam Graves shook her head, “No, don’t say that, my dear.” She said earnestly, “I believe you can help Lucian to get back on his feet, and back into society.”
Aria shook her head ‘no’ but Madam Graves nodded her head ‘yes’.
Aria found it crazy that Madam Graves was thinking Lucian would be back on his feet in a few weeks, but even more crazy, she expected her to help with that miraculous fit.
Aria did not know how she was able to make Lucian wake up from his coma l, but she was sure she would not provide any assistance to his rehab process.
She had no idea of anything in the medical field.
She could get him a really good doctor though, because that Doctor Adams was definitely suspicious. But other than that, she had no idea what Madam Graves wanted her to do.
Madam Graves, however, refused to be convinced otherwise.
“You will help him, my miracle worker,” she cooed, “And it will be awesome. You just need to help him get back on his feet and the Graves family would be indebted to you for life!”
Aria’s eyes flashed with greed at that statement.
She looked at Madam Graves, “Indebted to me?” She asked tentatively, “Like you will do anything I ask for?”
Madam Graves nodded earnestly, “That’s exactly it, my dear. With your good luck, I know that the Graves family will continue to be blessed.”
Aria chuckled, then placed her coffee cup back on the tray. She clasped Madam Graves hands close to her bosom.
“Mother, I promise to do whatever it takes to make Lucian walk again! You have my word on it!”
